Cyro pvp lag is significantly reduced if one stays away from the AD home keeps where the 24 man DC and EP ballgroups and entire factions stack, every single gawd damn night. Those 2 factions never fight each other, only AD. It's kinda strange tbh

There was a while were people said DC and AD never fight each other.

I think "who fights who" just changes based on who has won the camp x amount of times in a row.

If you go in solo do you still have this issue?

Usually it more or less fine but sometimes dips but usually not more than 5-10fps and definitely not the 30-40 when grouped.

Also up top it only dips when there a bunch of large zergling/ball groups running around.

Yeah, that "ballgroup" lag I know what you are referencing. I'd put that in it's own bucket outside of the issues reported in this thread. Are they a problem - 100%. Is it the same thing that I've been experincing since this thread - no. I'd more or less say ball group/zerg lag is the sprinkles on top of my ice cream cone that is terrible performance.

If that makes any sense what so ever - sorry kind of out of it today. I need more coffee.

We are currently experiencing a lot of lag when someone joins or leaves instanced content, whether voluntarily or involuntarily (i.e. a crash).

Late last night (after 2am EST) had an experience of this in Rockgrove where someone left and when their replacement joined the instance, those of us already in it froze for a solid 4-5 seconds.

Oof. Did you get an error code or just the usual "An error has occured" prompt.

I think it might be helpful to the negineers if when we crash we start putting screenshots of what the code/message was. I need to be better at this myself.

Nope. Kevid said they are in the final stages of putting out a survey about performance that is structured in a way to help the engineers. Hopefully we can nail something down after that comes out.

The timing of this all started around that update a few weeks prior to this thread being made. That is where I'd focus if they haven't all ready.

I don't think this would be an Elder Scrolls online game if it didn't have high ping and lag. I guess I just consider myself lucky after the move to the new "server" that we have a server to be on none the less. But if you ask me, they should have kept the old servers just to give us more awesomeness and less lag. 2 heads are always better than one, just like it's always 1 stone to roll 2 birds.

It honestly makes me want to cry in frustration some days.

I am on PS5. I do not have the option to hardwire into my modem/router. All that being said, here is today for a prime example:

Played for 2 hours this morning just fine. A literal miracle.

    Stop for lunch.

Play Diablo for an hour with a friend. Zero issues.

Play ESO with same friend for an hour. The only goal was do some BGs. I got kicked to main screen twice in 10 minutes waiting on queue. Got one BG completed. Near end of second BG, got kicked to main screen again, deserter penalty, etc. I have now quit ESO to go back to Diablo.

    Friend not kicked at all.

The entire time all of the above is happening, my husband is playing GTA online, on his PS5, also wirelessly, zero issues.

Why? Why does ESO hate me? I pay a lot of money every year for this game, yet stability just worsens. I had occasional disconnects since last MAY when this thread started, but it is now unplayable crisis mode ever since the data center chaos the other month.

There are some super weird instances when you can crash and it will wipe your ini file or some other files. Had it happen to me a few times last month all settings basically get reset.

It's just not fun playing when there is just the tiniest bit of lag on everything in ESO. Skill delay, LA delay, press E to pick up loot delay, rocks crashing from above that stun you delay. All that just made for an annoying public dungeon run in West Weald. Then I went to put an item into my bank, delay. Took an item out of my bank and it was like a 5 second delay. My ping isn't high, my internet speed is great, I have a newer high end computer. There is no reason for this lag, I've not had it quite this bad before. I guess at least I got to log in without being kicked for lost lobby connection right away tonight. I suppose tomorrow the game will run fine again, with nothing changed on my end.

Last night in GH was the worst... for me that is. Ballgroups are continuing to create and cause lag for me. I'm not sure if they're aware of it.. or purposely exploiting the terrible servers by causing lag to the opposition team so they can get easy kills. Countless times when I tried using my ultimate by pressing the R key... it would not activate at all, and therefore missing out on the opportunity to bomb and get kills. I can confirm this by reading the logs. My bomber setup with a decent rotation was being out DPS by Oakensoul setups. So I'm guessing that the only way to fight in Cyrodill right now is to build an Oakensoul build so you can not only fight players but also fight the laggy server on top of it.

Is the survey for the initial data gathering phase step delayed too? Havent seen it posted anywhere.

Wouldnt that mean its going to take a few years to actually fix the problem if going at this rate?

They said it's in the final stages on the stream i think.
I have no will left to help with lag until high action per minute devs play via a vpn from Asia or Oceania to NA and live stream thier experience of thier actions being declined by the server because they are out of frame.

Honestly a survey of this nature should have been done 4-6 weeks into the reported issue not 8-10 months later.

While I agree with you... at this point it doesn't matter - the fact they are putting it together is a win. I'm fairly certain ZoS will look back and acknowledge that they nbeed to be more proactive/respond faster when these kind of threads pop up.

While I'm sure they were "aware" and "working" on it there was a clear pickup in activity once this thread hit month 5-6 or so.

All we can do is look forward and try to help resolve it.

I don't think it would take a few years to fix it. The hardest part is going to be nailing down where the problem is and why it only hits some people. Once they can figure that part out then they can work on a fix. I'm sure this is one of the higher priorities in their backlog. Idk what their sprint cycle is but at best case they are doing a 2 week sprint so I'd expect updates minimum every 2 weeks or so.

Well.. not really updates in the sense of coms but updates within the dev/eng team and figuring out what the next step is. Most companies I've worked with run in 1 month sprints so it might be a bit for it to get resolved... but I don't think a year form this point is how long it will take.

Just had the worst lag in a bg right now. A transform chaos ball with people using game breaking chain pull sets.

Skills not firing for our team. Even stamina specificly not recovering for multiple people on our team. Other team seemed unaffected.

Were they running bandits along with something like RDK? I've tried to make my point on this with groups in the past but they never seemed to listen to me. If you do that then you *need* to disable data sharing on at least one of them. It's one of the main reasons I've always advocated *not* using combat-related addons in general. Certainly not more than one at a time. You never know what level of quality they developed it with unless you are willing to review the code line-by-line and even then there's no telling how that will interact with the server backend without extensive experience.

I tried RDK once and it crashed me to desktop every 5 mins. Took it out after an hour and lost the link to it so I'd never accidentally put it on again ;-D

RDK is a beast of an add-on. When I would run it I would disable almost every add-on possible as to reduce conflicts.

I will say.. I have had years of playing in cyro WITH RDK enabled and never had issues until this thread. Just don't want add-ons to become a focus again (it's a problem but not THE problem).
    LadyGP/xCatGuy
  • JaxontheUnfortunate
Yeah I think some add-ons might be exasperating the performance issue and not the cause of it.

Also up top it only dips when there a bunch of large zergling/ball groups running around.

FPS dips are typically client-related and relative to your individual system build.

ESO has a very wonky demand for system resources and in those big fights often you are CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound. Both scenarios will tank your frames, though.

Note that this does not necessarily mean that your CPU is at 100% utilization. Individual cores will be, however, and depending upon what game processes are running on them, that is where your bottleneck is occurring. The CPU simply can't provide the necessary information to your GPU for it to render frames on time. The classic tell for this is if you are experiencing frame drops while running relatively low GPU utilization.

Bottlenecking can and will also dynamically switch between being CPU- and GPU-bound as you play in Cyro. If you have 80 players on your screen you are likely CPU-bound but if you're around a few players firing off Scribing abilities then that will push your GPU harder, etc.

There is a very good tool called PresentMon (developed by Intel but can be run on anything) that can tell you what percentages of overall play that you are bottlenecked and by what component in your system. Because you are always bottlenecked by something (even if that something is a locked frame rate).
