I'm very excited for this. Personally I love the big houses but if you don't then you are not obligated to use it all.

There are so many efficient ways to block off areas or add buildings now that take minimal slots and you can just focus on a smaller area if you prefer a more cluttered look.

    Absolutely!

I blocked off Hundings except for the beach and made an extensive tropical coral reef.

You can absolutely make something cluttered with larger houses, you just have to get creative with how they're used and be selective.

You have discovered the thirty-seventh Sermon of Vivec, which is a bending of the light, long past the chronicles of the Hortator who wore inconstant faces and ruled however they would, until apocalypse.

If you're willing to have it look less cluttered but still full, then it's also possible to make the notable homes look good.

I mean, it's free, me complaining about it is the ridiculous thing, probably, but hear me out:

A small house in Seyda Neen, a cozy house in the dunes of Alik'r or perhaps one of those amazing looking houses made of books in Apocrypha (Cipher's Midden) or perhaps a small vessel that sails the sea much like the Fair Winds (emphasis on small) personally I'd take one of these over this monstrosity any day. Does it look bad? No, on the contrary, but how many people (even those that consider housing their endgame) will manage to furnish it? Very few.

I've said it before, less is more, take it easy, furnishing a smaller house is a more enjoyable experience for the majority of the playerbase. So TLDR: give us more small & medium homes, please. I will be very unhappy if the housing update doesn't include a wave of new smaller homes along with some cool feature like planting herbs etc.

Holy cow, you guys can be so annoying, the community is always complaining about not receiving any rewards and whenever you do get one you find a way to complain about it, they've been doing great with the daily rewards for the past few months, just be grateful for a change.

If furnishing is a problem then complain about furnishing, not about the gift you've been given.

    EXACTLY!
13000+ crowns 700 slots house for FREE? Give it to me now!

    ....
What will we see next? They'll give us a small house for free and we'll see more complaints.
But the worldwide trend is to constantly complain about everything.

I hate smaller homes (I won't even bother decorating them) because of the furnishing limits and I usually turn notable homes into smaller areas using structure pieces/etc. Allows me to really get creative and detailed with how I decorate so they can give me all the free notable homes they want.

There are two houses in Wrothgar. Did you mean that both are out in the middle of nowhere? Because one is very conveniently near to some guild traders plus the questgiver for the daily delve quests. But, yes, the other is out in the middle of nowhere.

I think ZOS giving us enormous houses for free is a great thing, even if it's not what most of us want, because it does encourage players to commit to housing on a level that's more than just putting a few furnishings in a tiny house.

When I got the Psijic Villa, I didn't know what to do with it, and it's taken me literally years, on and off, and lots of gold and farming to furnish it, but it's been very enjoyable to furnish (and I'm still not done). I probably won't do the same with this one, but I do think that it's a fantastic idea. And I'm grateful for a place to park my bound antiquity furnishings.

(And yes, we definitely need more small and medium homes to purchase.)

I just want a big ass house where I can drop all the unwanted furnishings I am getting from events and I have a whole lot of them. I bought two houses and they are not enough for all the crap I am getting. This one fits my criteria perfectly, so I am happy with it. Wish they would give me two!

If you are wondering why I just don't throw away the unwanted furnishings, did you forget that I am a gamer?

Something else to consider is that just because it's big doesn't mean one needs to decorate the entire space. One can setup a nice cozy area around the entrance and even wall off the rest if they feel it's necessary.

A guild I'm in did that for the Grand Psijic Villa. It looks great and is highly functional.

I'm likely going to block off most of the outside and only use that awesome cave/mine it have.

It's nice getting a notable house for free, they love making them crown only and only give away smaller houses or make those obtainable in game.
Although I do understand where OP is coming from. People have and are requesting more houses of various sizes that are not these giant and often nichely themed houses. We'd love more houses that are set in the cities, like having a house in Vivec City, Balmora, Orsinium, Abah's Watch etc. None of those cities except for Abah's Watch got a house (not counting the inn room in Vivec), and in Abah's it would be nice have a smaller house in the middle of the city, maybe with some some open wall or balcony so you can see out. I've wanted a nice, right in the city, house in Orsinium for years, preferably with a view.

People also want more sandbox houses like Moonsugar Meadows that doesn't have some building on it, but is mostly just a nature landscape.

@can I please see that coral reef, it sounds amazing?

I really like notable homes too, for the reason that there are soo many more furnishing slots. And creative people can inspire how to block sections of, and that way you get soo much freedom in making cool houses as one large house could be divided into different looking areas.
I am awful at it, but I really enjoy seeing the ways other people make the most artful creations, and I don't even know what house was used :)

I think this is much ado about nothing. If you don't like the free house, then don't use it. Use the crowns from your subscription to buy something else. If you can't afford a subscription use your gold and ask someone like me to gift you the house. If you have no gold and no crowns and you still expect to be gifted things you love then you might want to consider that you may be suffering from entitlement.

Most of them do fall in that category for me, with the horribly outdated system ESO has - it just can't be helped. There are a select few notable houses that are great however and can be filled realistically without dividing, hiding etc.

@Anifaas I suggest you calm down, take a deep breath and rethink what you just said. I am not entitled to anything, but I AM entitled to a good product for the money I spend, I also have the right to criticize what they give me for said money, which is the bare minimum compared to other companies and for a game that makes so much money, I mean, look at how Matt Firor bragged about the 2bil. That's what I'm doing here, mostly, the free house is of little consequence, but is part of a larger problem.

Interesting. You know the phrase 'Tongue-In-Cheek'? No matter. People are completely misunderstanding what the sentiment was (and some even feel borderline offended that I dare to tag devs, please... really?) perhaps I should have worded my post differently. Yes, the daily rewards are amazing, the house is amazing too (as I already said) this has NOTHING to do with me being ungrateful whatsoever, but the game overall is getting way too many notable houses, my main complaint is that we are not getting enough small/medium ones, and that is rather problematic.

If you disagree, fine, but the reality is that the majority of the playerbase, based on the sheer wealth alone that it takes to furnish a house like this, if anything, would fair better with a medium etc. But hey, that's just what I think, feel free to think otherwise. At the end of the day, this is going to be fantastic as a storage place alone, so there's no loss.

Certainly it crossed my mind that this was a bait post, or whatever term you’d prefer, but the tone didn’t strike me that way, and people have raged in all seriousness about things that seem to me nearly as ridiculous.

The reality is that no one ever asked for a shanty as prize and this is supposed to feel grand like that, and the majority of the playerbase would prefer to be given something of value that suggests a multitude of possibilities for use. Plus, most players have been gathering materials for years, making the practical cost of making the furnishing (a service provided in many guilds if you don’t happen to have the desired plan) much less than what is cited.

Housing mats are something that get sucked up a lot by housing enthusiasts due to the high cost of furnishing. I don't think there's many who care about housing a ton sitting on a ton of mats. That strikes me as something people who don't care about it are doing, and maybe they'll decorate a free house every now and then.

Probably true in general, although I am one of those players who is always always gathering housing materials (and even certain furnishings) but do a lot of deliberating between builds, so when I do decide on a build to create, I can make or order furnishings as desired — and that is a great feeling, like ordering wine without looking at the price (reference to a movie, not my irl experience alas, lol). :joy:

@Shagreth I cannot argue with you even in jest about the headache that is inventory management! 😵‍💫 My last build I was switching between characters holding different collections in their inventories to place furnishings — if it wasn’t for the Inventory Insight add-on I should have gone mad!

I do enjoy many of the medium-sized homes and just finished furnishing Lucky Cat Landing. Small houses… there the space really has to be just right to my taste since I have limited space and furnishings to modify it, although builders more creative than I have done just that.

Edit: Never played Fallout, my only other experience with housing was SWTOR, which was sooo limiting with hooks for decos and other issues. I could have cried for joy when my first experience with ESO housing was mistakenly installing a painting midair — this game lets you do that?! Oh the freedom! :joy:
