Which Class do you think the 8th Companion will be?

I am far more interested in the races the companions are than what class they are. It’s annoying that the four races I was waiting on are coming last.

Also I doubt, due to some spells being illegal inside of towns, that we will see a necro, vampire, or werewolf companion.

We don't need an eighth. One for each class is sufficient.

They’re releasing 2 companions lol. The 2nd of the two will be class #8/companion #8

Regardless if you think it’s necessary, that’s the point of the question lmao

Necromancer (presuming 2 Necromancer Companions in 2024)
A Necromancer with a stronger necromantic feel to it than the playable class. He'll only get favor by accidentally using his skills in town, resulting in the guards drawing their swords at him, but he'll just stand there and laugh manically as he disappears into thin air as we summon another companion and the guards forget anything happened.

No 8th companion. One for each playable class makes this feature complete. With constantly adding a new feature every year, that they regularly expand on, they need to finish with some to make time for more.

I prefer ZOS allow us to craft companion items and give companions more attention. Right now they are a mess and only players with millions can equip purple stuff because they are disgusting expensive in players market.

I completely misread the OP; I didn't mean to vote for necromancer.

My best guess on what they'd do is not a new class or something but rather repeat old classes, but different skills and stuff. The vampire NB is a perfect example: mix in vampire skills with new (ones that Mirri didn't adopt) NB ones. Just an overall different NB vibe than what Mirri has.

That's also what I want them to do--cycle through the classes. It'd allow them to make characters with personalities/archetypes that we didn't get with the first batch. Sharp is cool, but I'd like a more classic druid person for a warden; a no-nonsense battlemage for a sorcerer; a less whimsical arcanist; etc.

These are great ideas. In the Companions Q&A, ZOS seemed to stress how important it was for them to make compelling characters for the Companions system. I think the main emphasis of the Companions system to ZOS is the personality and storyline of each Companion — not necessarily their Class and abilities.

In other words, it's likely they'll use the Companion's Class as a basis for who the Companion is going to be like, so I find it likely that we'll get a different vibe of Nightblade, Arcanist, Sorcerer, Warden, and so on in the future. There are many different stories one can tell with those Classes as backgrounds, so once all of the base Companion skills are made, it's just a matter of designing characters and assigning them a fitting race/class/curse.

Psijic type could be a possibility.

If anything, seeing what the Psijic Order skill line looks like on a Companion would be interesting! I'd imagine such a Psijic Order Companion might just have the Psijic Order skill line unlocked by default, since there's no way to train that Guild skill line for Companions.

I'd imagine that those particular spells just wouldn't be made Criminal Acts for Companions. I highly doubt ZOS would let players get a bounty for something their Companion does.

Besides, Companions decide when to cast their skills. Maybe all of the "Criminal Act" skills will be given some sort of "While Companion is not near a town" proc condition? Something to give the impression that the Companion knows not to cast these illegal spells in areas where they are deemed illegal.

From the ESO content roadmap for 2024:
    d4bad41a26725a2197cb231db0e68f5e.jpg

We are getting two Companions this year. I imagine we'll keep getting Companions even after we get all 10 playable races covered, too, given ZOS's statement in the Companions Q&A about not necessarily needing to cover all 10 playable races and 7 playable classes before doing something different:
    ZOS_Kevin wrote: »
Q: Is it possible to get a Companion that isn't one of the playable races? Like an Atronach or Arox even?

TM: We don’t necessarily feel we have to hit every player race and class in our companion designs before we can do stuff off the beaten path, like a Maormer or Dremora. What we care about, first and foremost, is creating compelling characters that players want to adventure with. That said, we see a lot of requests for companions from player races that we haven’t represented yet – like Altmer, or Nord – and there’s a ton of compelling characters we can make with those backgrounds.
So to answer the original question, it is absolutely possible! I can’t promise anything, but it’s something we’re constantly discussing.
This gives the impression that ZOS has many ideas in store for future Companions, whether they reuse player races and classes or not. Maybe we'll end up getting an Altmer and Nord in 2024, like was listed here. My bet is that we'll get an Altmer Necromancer, and maybe the Nord will end up being a Dragonknight?

That said, I am pretty excited to see what new characters are made for the Companions system, regardless of what Class they are given.

ESO isn't the typical MMO. It's more like a TES-themed online sandbox game — why classes are still a thing in this game is beyond me, as even classes in the singleplayer TES games weren't so tightly enforced. You could choose any class (or Standing Stone in TES V: Skyrim) but still change your mind later and specialize your character in something else with enough practice.

Regardless, classes in ESO make balancing combat in PvE/PvP a hot topic of discussion, and even the Companions system gets some discussion regarding ESO's use of classes for them.

You know, ZOS's concern about us needing to be able to identify our Companions by their faces has me wondering how they would handle implementing a Werewolf Companion, given that werewolves don't have many customization options, and their faces and bodies all look the same. I reckon ZOS could just give the Werewolf Companion a unique fur color to set them apart, like maybe that grey fur color that players currently don't get to use. Though, maybe ZOS will put most of the effort into making the human form look unique, rather than the werewolf form.

As for humanoid Companions wearing helmets, I agree. Some Companions would look really good in some hats/helmets, including those which still let us see the Companion's face. Though, I think concerns about seeing many copies of the same Companion will dwindle as we see more and more Companions introduced — considering we still don't have Nord, Altmer, Bosmer, and Orsimer Companions, and there's the possibility of getting some non-playable race Companions in the future, we should have a larger cast of characters in a few years time.

I wonder if we'll ever get any other Companion equivalent of Player skill lines. Not necessarily tied to a "Class", but I think it'd be interesting to see the Companion equivalent of skill lines such as Dark Brotherhood, Psijic Order, Werewolf, Vampire, Thieves Guild, Assault, Support, Emperor, Scrying, Excavation, Soul Magic, Legerdemain, all of the Crafting skill lines, and so on.

Most of these wouldn't make sense, but maybe ZOS could take the general idea of the skill lines and make something fitting for Companion combat out of them. Maybe only specific Companions are given such skill lines by default in addition to their Class skill lines? It would mean we wouldn't have to train those skill lines the way we do for Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, and Undaunted.
