No 8th companion. One for each playable class makes this feature complete. With constantly adding a new feature every year, that they regularly expand on, they need to finish with some to make time for more.

its already been confirmed that there will be 2 new companions later this year (i think Q3, it wasnt going to be with the chapter)

My best guess on what they'd do is not a new class or something but rather repeat old classes, but different skills and stuff. The vampire NB is a perfect example: mix in vampire skills with new (ones that Mirri didn't adopt) NB ones. Just an overall different NB vibe than what Mirri has.
That's also what I want them to do--cycle through the classes. It'd allow them to make characters with personalities/archetypes that we didn't get with the first batch. Sharp is cool, but I'd like a more classic druid person for a warden; a no-nonsense battlemage for a sorcerer; a less whimsical arcanist; etc.

Just a follow up thought. I think they released Orsinium to everyone because one of the companions will be an orc.
So probably an orc and wood elf companion this time.
I am far more interested in the races the companions are than what class they are. It’s annoying that the four races I was waiting on are coming last.
Also I doubt, due to some spells being illegal inside of towns, that we will see a necro, vampire, or werewolf companion.
Was it even confirmed there would be 2 companions? Pretty sure it would be just necromancer and that’s it. Unique new class would be cool though.
This gives the impression that ZOS has many ideas in store for future Companions, whether they reuse player races and classes or not. Maybe we'll end up getting an Altmer and Nord in 2024, like was listed here. My bet is that we'll get an Altmer Necromancer, and maybe the Nord will end up being a Dragonknight?Q: Is it possible to get a Companion that isn't one of the playable races? Like an Atronach or Arox even?
TM: We don’t necessarily feel we have to hit every player race and class in our companion designs before we can do stuff off the beaten path, like a Maormer or Dremora. What we care about, first and foremost, is creating compelling characters that players want to adventure with. That said, we see a lot of requests for companions from player races that we haven’t represented yet – like Altmer, or Nord – and there’s a ton of compelling characters we can make with those backgrounds.
So to answer the original question, it is absolutely possible! I can’t promise anything, but it’s something we’re constantly discussing.

Typical class based MMO schedule.

Please zos let companions wear helmets.
Seeing all those similar characters is terribly immersion breaking!
