I can't believe how many assumptions some forum members are making about how long it takes to play an ESO chapter.

I was making my statement (30 hours per chapter, 15 per dlc) based on the official information given by ZOS. This was their announcement for Necrom:

This was the one for High Isle:

    They're doing this every year.

I wonder if the 2024 Chapter will still be 30 hours of content (estimated)

I can't believe how many assumptions some forum members are making about how long it takes to play an ESO chapter. The fact is, we all play the game at different rates. For me, it takes heaps more than 30 hours to finish the quests for a whole chapter, because of my play style.

I don’t do hourly completions but the chapters have gotten shorter. Morrowind had locations have multiple quests that were each as long as the singular quest we get per points of interest now. I’m hoping we get back to more content in the chapter now that the Q4 DLC has been axed. Or spread the wealth elsewhere with companion questlines and whatnot.

I understand Necrom not having those improvements as a transition year where the model changed but hoping for more quests, more diverse dialogue options (not just a series of questions) moving forward.

The only thing I find interesting about these end-of-year letters is what seems to be a cultural difference between the US and the place where I live: Here, no one takes excessive marketing drivel seriously, and self-praise is seen as a character flaw. So no one would actually approve of that, quite the opposite.
    Agreed

    STUDIO DIRECTOR’S LETTER: ESO’S 2023 RETROSPECTIVE & THE FUTURE
"ESO is in a great place—enjoyed by millions. In fact, almost two million of you joined ESO last year, not counting the players enjoying the game for free from the Epic Games Store"

I'd like to have seen a letter with more substance.

With "drivel" removed, the snippet above might have looked like this:

"We saw 2 million new player accounts between Jan 1 and Dec 31 last year. After filtering out those who hadn't logged in for more than 30 days, bots, spam, gold sellers, and banned accounts: - Of the 2 million brought in, X% still "enjoying" the game."

I'll take a SWAG approach to "X" above . Feels like 5% retention of new players and another year at ↑10% loss of vets (those with a year or more activity before 2023, but no longer play (haven't logged in over 30 days)).

I'm hopeful that the "Global Reveal" on Jan 18 will provide the substance that was lacking in the letter.

I think that 30 hours is based on active quest time and assumes the player does not interrupt quests for other activities. I feel that is about right though the way I play that turns out to more like a month to month and half of calendar time.

The newer chapters have also felt like they have less content than I recall having in Morrowind and Summerset. It isn't so much the total number of questing story lines but that the individual story lines have less completion steps than they use to.

Likewise, and that's just with one character on one server...

Agreed. Says the person who didn't get her first main to CP 160 for just over two years.... including the game's MQ and Cadwell;s Silver and Gold - and I don't really know how many other quest lines (that was 2017 to 2019). Of course.... I was also desultorily leveling alts - and halfway through, a main and alts on a second account....

They didn't even mention PvP/Cyrodiil. So I guess we can rightfully assume that's what the future holds for Cyrodiil.

Is ZOS phasing out Cyrodiil PvP? Please tell us if that's the plan or just the effect.
