Crown Crate Gifting Temporary Solution Process

Need word on a proper/perma fix that doesn't require going through CS.

Ya'll know a huge part of the economy is players buying crown crates from other players. No one wants to sell / gift to others when it takes days/weeks for response from CS.

It's something that is controlled at the server side, a patch update will not be bringing this functionality back. If you recall, consoles were able to gift crates for several months after it was disabled on PC.

ZoS... @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_Kevin, from what I am seeing, this is a disaster of a system. And I hate to always ping you two, but you are literally the only two employees we can sometimes interact with. You tried your best, but it's actively punishing players. Bring it down and fix it or focus on the permanent solution to this issue. You can NOT POSSIBLY think that having players social banned for using this warrants silence and is acceptable.

It’s been a month since this “solution” was posted and people have been asking for clarification so the deafening silence does seem to suggest that they think it’s ok that this is happening.

.......clearly it's not that important since we can't seem to get a proper answer on this. How many times do people need to be pinged to get a answer to a question. You have people getting upset for how this is being handled lol kinda should expect some backlash from such a failure imo

If the current solution wasn't functioning as ZOS intended, wouldn't someone have said something about changing or fixing it in the past month+? Given the complete lack of response, I have to assume that the temporary solution is functioning exactly as it's supposed to.

It's a stupid policy change made for greedy reasons. If people pay money for Crowns they should be able to spend them in-game however they want.

The gifting system was added to the game by Zenimax so that they can make more Crown sales and if people want to gift something in-game for something else in-game we should be able to. If people are taking advantage of this by buying Crowns in certain countries for super cheap then stop selling crowns in those countries.

Wrong, you are playing on their service and their products. It is a privilege, not a right. You are paying for the ACCESS that they ALLOW you to have. Purchasing crowns does not allow you to have stake in their STOCKS. Crowns don't make you a shareholder, it makes you a customer.

It's not only crown to currency differences between countries, it's all the currency-to-gold laundering on 3rd party sites causing crazy inflation and also bypassing the crown store sales. Basically, these thieves thought: "why would anyone buy 1500 crowns for $15USD when they can buy 5000 crowns worth of GOLD for $15USD on a 3rd party site out of reach from ZoS influence?" This is 95% likely why the gold-to-crowncrate exchange was stopped. The people innocent and inconvenienced by these changes are just collateral damage to stop the bigger problem. It sucks, but also, I hate our game being hijacked by sociopaths.

I'm confused. What is the purpose of crowns if not to trade for gold? Wasn't that the intention of crowns?

I am 100% confused. Does this only apply to crown crates? Can I not gift something like a race change in exchange for gold? I've been gone for a bit but this makes crowns totally useless for me. And I have 55K of crowns atm (ZOS check if you doubt this). I have always been a big crown buyer customer. What on earth are they talking about crown buyers being "stock holders"? I don't get that. Are you saying I can no longer use crowns to LEGALLY obtain in game gold?

This is not bashing but a question. I only heard of this today. After an extended leave from the game, I can not possibly read all of the updates. I want to know "can I gift things from the crown store in exchange for gold?" I knew something was wrong when someone tried to get me to do a 1700/1 exchange and I refused. Something seemed off because they were wanting more than 50K of crowns so I just put them on ignore.

What is going on? I can not follow this dialog. I need an answer: Can we gift items (other than crown crates) and receive gold? And are people suggesting to get gold from 3rd party sites? I thought this was illegal and I don't trust those gold sellers and have never used them. I always thought crown giftings was a legitimate source of in game gold, which is one of the primary reasons I continue to play ES0 off and on (for almost 10 years). I simply won't farm gold or sell in game items. Why would busy and successful people even think of grinding gold in a game? When we have been legitimately exchanging crown gifts for in game gold for years?

The ticket was submitted by my friend at 20th of August and after a week of waiting there is silence. Please, could anyone explain why does it take so long? This wouldn't make sense, either, because crowns still need to be bought by someone to exchange them. So ZoS would still get their money.

Radio silence is a form of communication. My guess is this is working exactly as ZOS intended it to work because it is actively discouraging people from gifting crown crates.

Well, we've been asking for clarification for weeks and weeks about things with no answer, but today we get told gifting is being stopped AGAIN because of "continued fraudulent activity".

Can you guys PLEASE ask the higher ups for permission to actually tell us what the fudge is going on? How is this "fraudulent activity" still happening? What about the accusations of people trying to do fraudulent stuff who were legit using the system? Can they provide us with some actual answers? We've just again within a month or so gotten the yearly "we know communication sucks but we're working on it" lip service (which again we know comes from higher up and you guys can only say what they say you can on matters), and yet silence on this matter until today, when we aren't even getting any answers and are just being told that lol no more gifting for however long".

What basically is most likely happening is gold farmers created a bunch of accounts (probably when they were handing them out for free) and sat on them for a while. Then they started using stolen credit cards to buy crowns, selling them for gold, then turning around and selling the gold for money. I've seen it happen in many MMOs that have microtransaction models. No matter how long they make people have an active account/level of characters/playtime/etc, gold farmers will find a way around it and use stolen credit cards to basically make free money. The biggest problem is when you start giving away a game for free, which is a lower barrier to entry for the farmers, trying to promote your game and it's exploited like that. It sucks for ZOS and it sucks for us. Unfortunately it's pretty hard to find a way to combat fraud like that since the victims of the theft don't even know about it until it's too late for everyone - then ZOS is left holding the bag and taking huge losses.

I thought we were well beyond the gold farming industry at this point since 99% of the MMOs out there moved to a microtransaction system over the last 15 years, but I guess it's still alive and well. It sucks because the people that suffer are the ones that use the system legitimately and the people that refuse to just play the game the way it's supposed to go out and support the gold farming industry. I would have figured the sweat shop gold farming was kind of done after 20 years, but I guess not.

Can other Crown items be gifted through support this way? If so, maybe this could be added to the announcement regarding the suspension of Crown store gifting? I think a lot of people are understandably upset if they bought Crowns for the purpose of prizes, gifting, raffles, etc. and may feel much better to know that there is still a way to use their Crowns as intended, even if less convenient.
