Crown Crate Gifting Temporary Solution Process

Hi all, we are following up on the temporary solution to Crown Crate gifting we have been working on for all platforms. If you want to gift Crown Crates through your preferred platform you may now request assistance facilitating Crown Crates gifting transactions through our Customer Support team.

Steps to Submit a Gift Request:
  1. Visit help.elderscrollsonline.com.
  2. Log into the account the gift will be sent from (no exceptions will be made).
  3. Select the following from the category options:
  4. Billing > Your Platform Of Choice > I have a question about a sale / offer. > I want to gift Crown Crates to a friend.
  5. Enter the “UserID/SteamID/Gamertag/PSNID” of the Gift Recipient
  6. Enter the “Character Name” receiving the Crown Crate gift.
  7. Select from the listed Crown Crate bundles.
  8. Click Submit.

Please note that there are some requirements and restrictions with this system, as it is intended specifically for those who want to gift Crown Crates to friends and guildmates on the same megaserver platforms. To be eligible to take part in this system, you must meet the following requirements:
  • You must have at least one level 50 character.
  • Your account must be in good standing (no violations in the last 6 months).
  • Your account must be at least 90 days old.
  • You must be gifting to a player on the same megaserver platform.

Lastly, you may only gift Crown Crates that are currently available in the Crown Store at the time of your request.

This temporary solution will be available for players as of today, July 13th, 2023.

We hope this will help those who would like to resume gifting Crown Crates to friends and guildmates in ESO. Once we find a permanent solution to the current fraudulent behavior issue related to Crown Crate gifting and verify the solution is working, we will update everyone. Thank you, and as always, thanks for your continued patience on this issue.

*This program is not to be used for "gold for Crowns" nor "Crowns for gold. As of right now, it is strictly to facilitate a player using crowns to gift crown crates to another player.

For PC users does it make a difference selecting between Steam or Windows?

For example, can you only gift to a fellow Steam user or vice versa?

how long will the whole process take?

my guess since it has to go through support would be "24-48 hours" since they likely will have to vet the person your trying to gift to for "legal reasons"

The terms "friends and guildmates" is used a lot here. Does this rule out selling crown crates to players that you don't consider to fall under the aforementioned?

im not sure they would have a way to verify that unless they stated the person has to be in a guild you are in, or on your friend list

i personally dont see a lot of randoms doing crown selling if the buyer wants crates because of this convoluted process needed to actually send the crates, and the fact that there would likely be a huge delay

i also am not sure if they are going to get bombarded by people all submitting support tickets trying to gift crates, since i assume thats like 90% of what people sell crowns for is crates

It's too bad that there's still an issue with gifting Crates the old way, but I appreciate the staff time and effort that this temporary workaround must take.

Wish this his was around last crown crates season.

I tried to message support about the crates, but all messaging about crates was disabled and we got no response.

For a system like this to be implemented that was available before, as a temporary solution, for an issues that was going on for almost half a year, seams underwhelming.

Unless you have hired and trained new staff to do these actions and it does not fall on the workload already present for support, I feel that this temporary solution could have been implemented months ago.

I bet the people who were claiming that Crate gifting was broken because ZOS was purposefully removing the feature feel really silly now.

Thanks for the work-around, but now the question remains on whether the Crates that were available while this issue was going on will be brought back at all or not.
    Character List [RP and PvE]:
Stands-Against-Death: Argonian Magplar Healer - Crafter
Krisiel: Redguard Stamsorc DPS - Literally crazy Werewolf, no like legit insane. She nuts
Kiju Veran: Khajiit Stamblade DPS - Ex-Fighters Guild Suthay who likes to punch things, nicknamed Tinykat
Niralae Elsinal: Altmer Stamsorc DPS - Young Altmer with way too much Magicka
Sarah Lacroix: Breton Magsorc DPS - Fledgling Vampire who drinks too much water
Slondor: Nord Tankblade - TESified verson of Slenderman
Marius Vastino: Imperial <insert role here> - Sarah's apathetic sire who likes to monologue
Delthor Rellenar: Dunmer Magknight DPS - Sarah's ex who's a certified psychopath
Lirawyn Calatare: Altmer Magplar Healer - Traveling performer and bard who's 101% vanilla bean
Gondryn Beldeau: Breton Tankplar - Sarah's Mages Guild mentor and certified badass old person
Gwendolyn Jenelle: Breton Magplar Healer - Friendly healer with a coffee addiction

ZOS might be waiting until they have a permanent fix in place before bringing back rounds of crates, as it would probably be easier than having customer service have to deal with huge influxes in crate gift requests.

So the temporary solution is to go back to the system that we had in place before the Crown Store had a gifting option available in it? Yeah, that's about what I expected. Disappointed it took so long to sort out, and hopefully it won't take 3-5+ days like it did in the past. Surprised by the friends and guildies restrictions, but I guess that must be due to whatever the fraud problem is.

So, as others have asked, will we get Ragebound Crates back for a bit, so we can use this system to buy some?

Steam and Windows matters does matter here. You will need to be in the same environment. It's a limitation of working between different storefronts.

We have brought this issue to the attention of our teams. However, the current focus is on currently available crown crates. If this changes, we'll provide an update. We know this isn't the answer everyone who as been waiting was hoping for, but hopefully this provides some clarity for now.

I was wondering if you could clarify this. So, if I had friends on PC who wanted to gift me crates, I would have to make sure that they also have the game through Steam like me. Correct?

Also, would we need to use the SteamID (for the gift recipient) as opposed to the in-game ID (your ESO @ -name) if we were on Steam?

I don't, because it doesn't sound like a workaround that's nice for people that sell crowns for gold in zonechat. I buy a lot of crown crates, but almost none of them with crowns since I find them too expensive. ;)

That is correct. We know this is not ideal, but due to storefront policy, we could not work around this.

So the minimum turn-around time is 48hrs. It could be a bit longer based on volume. This is to ensure our teams have enough time to get to everyone's requests without falling behind, as real people are going through these to execute the transaction.

Hi Kevin, thanks for the clarifications.

Regarding "Please note that there are some requirements and restrictions with this system, as it is intended specifically for those who want to gift Crown Crates to friends and guildmates on the same megaserver platforms."

So the Gifter can only be a player that the Giftee is in the same guild or are already friends with?

    No randoms from zonechat?

I have a question about those of us that have purchased ESO on, and off of Steam. My account, for instance, is linked to a Steam account, and I primarily play through the platform. I'm curious how it would work if I wanted to gift crates to someone who also has an independent ESO account, and then later wanted to gift to someone who also plays through Steam. Would I be able to gift to either of these people?

Didn't you get a confirmation mail from ZOS to your email account when you originally created your Steam account? I started out on Steam, too, and I definitely got such a mail and could use the account data to log in at the website to send a ticket.

As for your question regarding gifting crates from your Steam account to someone not on Steam - that was answered a couple of posts above. It's impossible due to different store fronts being involved.
