I have the main I had back in beta and launch and she's now an alt I don't play much but can't delete.
I have the second toon I came back to and she's now my main - crafter and DPS.
I briefly dallied in a necromancer and she was the first to hit 50. I then went back to the second lass (nightblade) to git better.
Then I have a ton of additional alts that I mostly roleplay on, or just experiment with.

Lots of fun :) Can't wait for the Necrom additional character ;)

Thank yo.i cant wait for Necrom either 😁

    Do your alts all craft
All but one are level 50 in all crafting skill lines and able to do daily writs. Only one is crafter and has learnt all traits. However all can craft their own potions and enchants.
do they do dungeons or pvp?
    All of them PvP.
3 out of 8 do PvE.
One is a true group DD, also a lightweight tank via gear change, and also a solo character.
One is a hybrid tank/DD carry build for dungeons and a tough solo character.
One is a dedicated tank, but also has a DD option via the armory.
All have multiple gear sets (Dressing Room addon) and all can switch to PvP via the armory.
    Are all your alts geared?
    Yes.
Are there alts that are a lil dusty cos you never played them in a long while?
Yes. No. Not exactly. They all PvP in Cyro at least once a month for transmute crystals. 3x NBs for different alliances are the same build with minor differences. My warden and stamplar see the least use.
Do you rp on any of your alts?
No. Unless you count using occasional emotes or the fact that my warden is called "Your Ex-Girlfriend".
Do your alts have their own home and zones they frequent?
No. They're usually all parked next to the crafting writ board in Vivec City.
    Do you style your alts?
They all have their own outfits.
Do you perhaps do all achievements on your alts?
    I don't care about achievements.
Do they all have wayshrines opened to them in every zone and all the skyshards?
One or two once had all skyshards. These days it feels pointless. Just do all the public dungeon group events, including some DLC, and you have a viable character.
recently i started working on getting all skyshards for each of them...i started clearing zones alphetically
I've been more interested in completing the stickerbook.
...im also working on gearing some alts for 3 pvp factions.
If you have friends in different factions or you want to low pop grind AP, that makes sense.

Wow thank you for all your answers ...i appreciate the time and effort you dedicated to this reply..i really enjoyed reading your answer..very interesting indeed and i an relate 😊

I don’t have alts, just two characters.

My Saxhleel alchemist dwells in the swamps and is a quiet, secretive sort with a deep interest in the pre-Duskfall era. He’s a magicka Warden and is used for most content. My other character, a Dunmer bookseller and occasional antiquarian, is an amiable mer preferring humility and modesty. Neither has any interest in wars or petty squabbles, factions are meaningless to them, armour and clothing leans towards muted and functional, and my Saxhleel crafts things ‘when he feels like it’.

I play both in very different ways and never get bored with them.

I love your characters' stories thank you for sharing ..they sound very intersting. Im starting to get a taste for rp...i guess ive always had lil back stories for my characters but i never really ellaborated on them. Thanks for your input really enjoyed reading your reply..id love to know more about your characters cos they sound intriguing. Perhaps its an indication that i need to get more into the rp side of eso.

    - 12 characters I actively play with
    - 7 characters I only occasional play with
    - 4 supplemental master jewellery crafters
    - 4 mules

14 in total, whenever I had an idea for a character I just made it and worried about skills/gear later. They all use different sets that I wanted to try out, in at least purple quality. I'd consider 4 of them to be vet dungeon worthy and 3 to be completely unsuited even for normals. One is a thief character whom I purposefully keep underleveled and who only steals. They're all useful for farming things like motifs from dailies, event boxes or transmutes from rnds and Tribute dailies. So far 2 have played the story all the way through, as well as most of the side quests in their alliance's zones, enough to earn the title of alliance hero. They are styled based on whatever theme I had in mind for them and use the appropriate cosmetics. For example, one is a technophile who rides a Dwemer spider, uses the Mad Tinkerer set and wields engine guardian weapons. They all have some kind of backstory and personality that I came up with when I was bored, but I don't RP aside from some occasional in-character talk with friends. Obviously, I don't have time to play with all of them so the least adequate ones are gathering dust, and will likely remain that way forever unless I suddenly have an amazing idea how to make them usable without deviating from their theme.

15 characters at the moment, and counting. I plan to end up with a male and a female character of each race; and a tank, healer and dd of each class (except sorcerer, which, with a 20 character maximum, will only get 2 characters).

I play some of my existing characters more than others, but no-one is getting dusty. Neither does anyone stand out as the main.

All of my characters have a personality and background, some still in early development and others very extensive. Some of my characters are related to each other, know each other, or know my husbands characters.
I’d like to roleplay more, with any of my characters. Most people I meet in game don’t seem very interested in that sort of thing though, and the game itself doesn’t offer many opportunities.

They all have done at least some questing & exploring, some dungeons, some PvP, some crafting, and a fair amount of skyshard hunting. They all have a mount, a pet and an outfit that suits them. Not all of them have their own house yet, but they’ll get it eventually.

They’re all geared to the best of my ability. It just takes a lot of time to collect & improve sets for every occasion for 15 characters, especially if you want to maintain some sense of individuality instead of reproducing the same combinations every time.

Only 1 character has completed the main quest so far, the rest is slowly progressing on zone quests.
1 is a grand master crafter, 2 others are working on it and almost there. The others take it more easy and learn their stuff as it comes along. I’ve got 1 thief character and 1 assassin. 4 characters have maxed out antiquities.

I’m not putting any effort in repeating achievements for their own sake, I only care about them if it gets me a color or a skillpoint anyway.

I feel a bit out of place now but I have 1 character. :)

I started playing around when Blackwood released and still filling up the 'zone progress' bars to 100 percent on every map with my character. That is nearly complete. Also filling up my sticker book.

The only other character I play is on the PTS. I usually play through the main quest before official release, so the main quest isn't crowded. On live release I just sprint and click through it. Finished Necrom the day it appeared on the PTS.

I do play a lot of other games in all genres. So ESO is usually the game I come back for when all my other games are finished. I log on daily for my rewards, dungeon and trading. Usually between work meetings.

Thanks for the kind words! Bit of a funny story with that one, originally I just wanted to make a female Altmer to see how she would turn out, but I have the 'Any race, any alliance' upgrade and accidentally made her part of the Ebonheart Pact. So I thought, what's something the Pact has that the Dominion doesn't? Ah yes, loads of Dwemer ruins. From there I came up with the idea of her being an apprentice to the Sapiarch of Dwemer tech and its derivatives, who temporarily pledged her allegiance to King Jorunn in order to be able to take advantage of the (relative) internal peace in the Nord and Dunmer lands and do as much field research as possible.

    About half a dozen. But. . .

My characters actually 'are' each other. I've been playing the same magically inclined but skilled with a bow little wood elf since 2007 (Oblivion at that time), through Skyrim and into ESO. She mastered time travel long ago so chronology/era-hopping is of no concern to her. She wakes up in the morning and decides whether to grab her staves or bows and moves among the differing versions of herself (magplar, stamward, magsorc, stamsorc, etc…) as easily as she changes hairstyles or costumes. Each version of her looks identical and has only minimal different modifiers to her base name (Buffy).

I find one big advantage to this is that, given the constant buff/nerf drama, when my character gets nerfed, we don't rage quit the game. We simply play more on the variants that didn't get nerfed until the silly process goes full circle and the overnerfed character comes back into her power.

I have 18, all in relatively good gear, and I quest with all of them. All have every single skill unlocked by themselves (Psijic, FG, MG, TG...) and progress through each zone though only 3 or 4 even set foot in dungeons or trials.

The character I pick up for the night depends on my mood, I do not roleplay with other people but I have a story and type of gameplay for each of my characters.

Ah, and they're all Khajiit, thought I'm tempted to create an Argonian with the next expansion.

18 soon to be 20 when the Necrom chapter releases.

For the most part they exist to do daily writs to supply me with gold and upgrade materials, I don't do them daily anymore I only bother when I truly need gold or upgrade mats.

Other than that I have them:
-So I can test out the other classes, races

-Extra storage for stuff I hoard

-Get enough tier 1 rewards in the Cyrodiil campaigns, for the transmute stones when experimenting with gear set ups, I rarely bother getting it on all my alts though

-Redo quests I liked or unlock daily quests that offer rewards I want

I do have a second account with another 18 characters, I rarely use it, it's set up to do writs but has no ESO+, on occasion I log in, collect all the hireling mails and mail all the mats to my main account but most of the time I just don't bother with it make more than enough gold on my main account see no reason to put in the extra work.

It's not high level enough to bother harvesting surveys from, since I haven't really bothered much with it since long before the CP rework can't be stuffed levelling it up to unlock the relevant slot able's in the green tree to double the harvest and half the harvest time.

I have 13 playable characters, and 5 mules. All races except Bosmer so far.

My main is khajiit stamblade, she is doing most of PvE questing stuff and crafting. She is visually ever-changing, because whenever I get a new mount/skin/costume/polymorph, she has to wear it

My redguard stamplar alt is doing most of PvP, dungeon and trial stuff. But overall, any of my alts can do any activity, depending on my mood.

I am waiting for Necrom chapter release with excitement and fear.
Excitement is because I will have two little alts to level up. Crafting armor sets of little Julianos and Hunding's is always so cute <3 It's been many years since I had to level characters :D

Fear is because I have no idea what name, race and look I want for new characters :/ I don't have PTS installed nowadays, so I can't test them in action to get a personal feeling. I've seen videos on Youtube, but so far they don't give me inspiration for anything. Back when we got Necromancer class, I got ideas for my two Necromancers very easily...

I’ve got 8 toons soon to be 9 when Necrom drops and I raid on them, run dungeons for transmutes and use alts to replay the various story lines when I want to experience it again since we can replay story missions on toons that previously completed them. I also use alts to do daily crafting writs to make gold.

I have 18 slots filled, but after AWA's there is no reason to play more than about 7 of them. I used to play all of them occasionally, but not anymore. Now you only need to play one healer, one tank, and one dps for each class.

Sixteen characters on PC NA and eight on EU, with different personalities and styles of play.

One character on each server is the main crafter that learns the motifs, furnishing plans etc, but all the others raise crafting skills to 50, and learn all the traits except Nirnhoned, and the similarly prohibitive jewelry ones. That means they all gather the same materials, and get decent drops of master writs.

There is no “main” character, so I play whichever one suits what I want to do, rather than re-spec a single character. I make minimal use of the armory, to do things like having an Antiquities build on one character that has all the skill points in those passives. My tanks tend to have an alternate dps build, so they can cut loose from time to time. Two builds is enough, and I have not bought extra armory slots. I’d rather build another alt.

I have a character of each race, magic and stamina variants of each class, and a few cases of morph choices, so winners and losers for nerfs and buffs are spread around. PvE only, and mostly solo. Playing with one-bar builds via armory, but that could lead to more alts.

Each character has their own home, and usually gets parked there when I log off. They range from Snugpod to Serenity Falls according to the character’s personality. Nobody lives in the inn rooms, they just get used like inn rooms. I need a playable Dremora, so that Doomchar gets a resident. Most have played the entire Main Quest, and they typically do all the quests in the zone where they live. In some cases, that was required to buy the house for gold.

Later characters have been able to skip the Main Quest, as you don’t get dumped into it after character creation. A couple of them still did it, as it’s a decent way to level up.

14 alts here, 2 more will come with necrom. As a rule all my alts are fully leveled up and properly geared for veteran solo/4-men pve (damage or tank) since this is the content I mostly like doing and before AWA I would hunt achievements on all of them in said content. Aside of that all my alts have leveled up crafting/trait research and done at least the old main quest + coldharbour + mages guild + most public dungeon group events (some of these for skill points mostly). Skyshards, Pvp and Guild skills and such I will unlock as needed. They all have a 'designed' look, with matching race-fitting clothing/title/personality if possible.

So the things that I do on my main but not explicitly on alts is questing/overland and learning motifs, though an alt might sometimes redo a questline that I've done long ago on my main.

I Have 8 characters. They don't all have back stories (yet) but I like to give them little stories to help them ground in the world. here are some who I have fleshed out summarized. I always like to start with their character flaws and build around that. They're all just regular people in my head, none of them are vestige or world saving hero's.
    • Zhaabu is a dk with a fiery spirit and joined the three banners war to prove himself and bring pride to his now late parents he's the big brother to the other Khajiit character I have. Brave for sure, but also easily influenced. He fears the dark whispers in his head. (Dro-m'athra?)
    • (my NB main)Zha'ishii is an anxiety driven avoider of all violence and prefers to flee and hide instead of attacking. She's been left in Rawl'kha to deal with their parents house (Sleek Creek) and feels left behind by her last living family member.
    • Emmerbert Bardufort is a Breton templar who is both soft on the inside and outside and is sort of a comical character. He's used to a cosy and wealthy lifestyle but has found out the family inheritance wasn't as great as he thought it was. He's a good dude but keeps getting into trouble.
    • Spinner Grethel is a warden who lives in the Snugpod, and is a grumpy old Bosmer lady who really doesn't like the softening of Bosmer culture, and keeps yelling at people to get off her lawn lol. She's just grumpy because she misses her late husband who died a WW. Over there years she's become somewhat a recluse.
    • Zamora al-Saran Redguard dk fighter who is drunk 80% of the time and doesn't mind a good pub fight. Always cheerful, answers to no king. Currently taking mercenary work for the Undaunted. (baby tank)
    • Elanore Lorenthare is a Altmer sorcerer with a shock staff that goes brrrrr. :D She's a fashionista or whatever the Tamrielic equivalence is. I imagine she laughs like a 90's anime female antagonist. oooo000000hohhohohoHOHOho!

I only have one crafter that I do my daily writs with and master writs. I mostly create alts to either pvp or just feeling creative and have a new character story in my head and build around that. I would have had more alts but the purchasing costs so far has kept me from doing that as I keep spending my eso+ crowns on cosmetics. I want to unlock imperials as I think they look good, but I can't decide which class, and it's been holding me back. In Necrom I'm for sure going to create at least one Argonian arcanist to make friends with the new companion Sharp-as-Night.

    8 characters total.

Three "main" (my original main, a new one I started for Morrowind release, and a more capable 'glance at a build a little' one that I made with Summerset), that I switch off between for daily play.
4 others that I made to try other playstyles/classes/etc, but didn't really 'click' with. They come out sometimes if they're appropriate to a task I want to do.
    One mule.

They can all craft (I use them when I feel like grinding writs), but most aren't maxed.
None of them PvP or dungeon.
All of them are prettified - costumes, or outfits, or crafted gear with chosen motifs.

They are all geared with 2 full sets, a monster helm and a mythic item. I recently completed the Undaunted skill line on all of them for the passives.

I play on PC. On my main account I have 17 Characters. 6 of them have a somewhat regular rotation of play. 4 of them are Mules. One is my speed farmer. The other 6 were rolled to do something, like alternate tanks or stamina versions of roles, but they mostly do crafting writs.

I have 10 Accounts, although 9 are for a personal guild. Each has one character and they are leveling their horse training. So those just hang out in the Stables.

My end goal is one of each class.

I love storytelling. I've got a whole layout in mind for each of my characters and what they should be doing, and I spend hours trying to plan out their looks on PTS before I even consider them on live. I can't start a character without a full 5 pages worth of backstory at least.

Granted, I do everything on my main (except now I don't have to go through the criminal lines with him), but it's not all part of his story. My main is also the only one of my characters who does sweaty content. I also have a few 'non-canon' zones complete on my alts just because of getting skill points. But when I'm actually playing them through their actual story, I really take my time and take a load of screenshots.
    • Dragonknight: an Orc raised by a Nord family, who end up thrown into the Main Quest while navigating the Pact zone lines. Eventually he'll also go off to Wrothgar to learn about his people and then Elsweyr because he's the only one who can face down Dragons.
    • Warden: a young man of the Skaal, who left home and ended up shipwrecked off Stros M'kai to do the Covenant line. He eventually finds his true calling as a child of Hircine, and that will also lead him to Western Skyrim after the Planemeld ends.
    • Nightblade: a hot-headed Reachman teenager who was found as an orphaned baby by the Spiritblood clan. His overconfidence will lead him to get mixed up in the Thieves Guild, and then later he'll end up in Blackwood and find out more about his mysterious past.
    • Templar: an excellent mage, born from an Altmer Kinlady in a miserable marriage meeting in secret with a Breton farmer. She doesn't do much with the alliances because she's focused on the Mages Guild line, but she even will help to free the poor souls in the Imperial City at the same time. Afterwards, she'll go on a quest to stop more Daedric invasions in the Daedric War line.
    • Arcanist: my Warden's older brother and shaman of the Skaal. After he ends up trapped in Apocrypha and awakens his powers, he'll go off to Craglorn to the Seeker's Archive to find out more about the Demon of Knowledge and end up enmeshed in that story. And afterwards, he'll likely be back off to Apocrypha and be forced to work with his hated enemy.
    • Sorcerer: a Maormer pirate abandoned by his people for falling in love with an Altmer and then betrayed by her. After a few years on the high seas, he'll end up on Khenarthi's Roost for another chance with working with Altmer and the Dominion storyline. After that, he'll probably head off to High Isle and get really involved in the Druidic way of life.
    • Necromancer: This is the one I haven't fleshed out yet (pun intended). I was considering an escaped Telvanni slave and I'll need someone for the Dark Brotherhood line and possibly Murkmire, but I don't have a solid background for this character.
I only have the first four made so far (and I just made my Templar last month so she's not got much done between the event and Zelda releaseing), but I hope I can get to at least 6 of them by the end of the year. I just... am one of those people who plans more than I actually play lol. I spend way too much time doing group content on my main.

I have 14 alts. Most of them are just the result of curiostiy (how does class x perform compared to y). I usually keep them half-decently equipped so I can at least rotate them through some daily randoms to get the transmute crystals.
All but two of them are crafters, although I usually don't do dailies on all of them. The remaining two are mule chars, one is holding all my surveys.

I have 8 characters and one slot open for Arcanist. I play my Bleed Warden main. I sometimes play my old magplar main but with the Jabs change I don't play it often. I also play my stam sorc. My first character (made day one of game release) is a master crafter, I have a maxed DK and two maxed Nbs and another warden I've basically abandoned aside from crafting. I don't play any of the other ones since I don't have any fun builds for them, I don't really like the playstyle of DK, and I'm not playing often to begin with anymore. They're maxed crafters aside from the mag warden that is like level 20, which only has clothier and jewelry maxed.

    72, but I actively play 4 to maybe 16.

1st account, xbox EU and NA (both CP1800)
created 18 on each, for such reasons:
    - to try out new classes/races
    - to do crafting writs for gold materials
    - to get more event rewards

The reason I created NA in addition to EU:
EU had login issues more than 2 years ago, so it was intended as workaround. I quickly learned, that gameplay on NA is very different on xbox, as there are maybe 5-10 times more players, so focussed on NA now.

2nd account, xbox EU and NA (both CP1000)
created 18 on each, for such reasons:
    - had "burnout" on first account
    - now playing almost only bosmer (give me positive vibes)
    - no more crafting writs to avoid another burnout
    - still doing events with them all, like whitestreak Mayhem
    - also here all classes, mag and stam, for variety and to have a "backhand" in case my current favourite gets nerfed to the ground.

As I no longer "grind" (like writs), only during some events, I play only rarely all of them meanwhile, but it is good to have them as fallbacks, and to extend my storage.

Four characters total. All four exist in my 28 page work of eso fiction. Two are primaries (one mag/one stam) that I use for everything, the other two are writs and storage atm.
