ALTS: How many alts do you have and what do you do on your alts?

Greetings forum friends,
I'm very interested in knowing what you all do on your alts. Do your alts all craft, do they do dungeons or pvp? Are all your alts geared? Are there alts that are a lil dusty cos you never played them in a long while? Do you rp on any of your alts? Do your alts have their own home and zones they frequent? Do you style your alts?
Do you perhaps do all achievements on your alts? Do they all have wayshrines opened to them in every zone and all the skyshards?

These questions are just a guide but I leave it upto you to share what you like about your alts

Thank you in advance. I really am intersted to know about yours cos i enjoy my alts ...recently i started working on getting all skyshards for each of them...i started clearing zones alphetically...im also working on gearing some alts for 3 pvp factions. All my 13 alts have maxed crafting but i might start feeding them more traits to learn...sometimes i just run out of play time to do everything i want to achieve
But having lots of fun on eso again...hope your hzving fun too.

I mostly make alts for Roleplaying Concepts. In between roleplay sessions I level them in under-50 battlegrounds which are a riot. I deleted many, many level 50 alts that I finished using in RP or just got tired of. At least 10 to 15 of them.

I presently have 4 characters. My main I can never get rid of, a crafter I can't get rid of, my antiquities character I can't get rid of as I'm not willing to level that again, and my new favorite.

He's also a minicrafter, with 8 traits researched in everything (9 in jewelry). The reason for the latter being reclusive is that I dislike repeating most quests, so that explains why he doesn't bother with most questlines. The DK has every wayshrine and skyshard discovered and the necro, most of them. Both of them have their outfits and homes, though I RP with the DK. I park them both at the very same spot near Leyawiin's wayshrine before calling it a night. They frequent whatever zones they need.

I'm not very much into making alts, so for years I focused only on the DK. Made the necro because it's a necro, after all. I like to immerse myself in the game and I find switching toons breaks that (especially when my internet was prehistoric and switching took forever).

Many many alts. I play 3 accounts, both PC megaservers. I log into every one of them for some play every month. They are all individuals, different outfits, different mounts, different houses etc.

When I'm on anyone, I get skyshards, wayshrines; run quests from where I left off. The only ones I play more than a bit are my 6 mains, unless I'm in the mood for a different character experience.

[BTW, I'm retired. In my mid 70s, gaming is my hobby forever. Played my first CRPG in the mid 80s, though when I had to work, I didn't play because I'm a tad bit obsessive as to hours of gaming - because just SO much more fun than hours of work y'know?]

I have 18 characters and I tend to rotate my main ones, for example right now I'm rotating between a DK tank, mag sorc Oakensoul, stam blade and mag cro. Last 2 don't use any mythics.. All my are crafters. 11 have learned all the traits with 2 more in the process. Only one is a grand master with most motifs abd a lot of furnishing plans known.

    I have 13 characters.

One was designed to be a thief for making money (I've since basically ceased doing that because I make better money in other ways now)

One was designed for soloing dungeons.

One was designed for doing most of the morally questionable quest lines. (Okay, so I still won't do Goblin's Delight on it even though it means I miss out on a dye)

The other 10 were all intended to be serious characters that I used for a variety of content.

When the characters fail to live up to my desires for them they turn into utility characters. At this point, all of them have failed. 1 has turned into my dungeon running character for when I do dungeons with groups, 1 has virtually all of my motifs, 2 are used for PvP, 3 others can craft, and the other 3 are just storage mules at this point that I occasionally experiment on.

I've popped out multiple alts because I try to make characters I like from a gameplay and story direction but, I tend to find that when I do enough content or enough optimization I no longer like the character.

ESO's quests seem to place the player character into the position of being a famous magical idiot that generally does the right thing but, occasionally goes about it in a questionable manner.

I personally find that clashes a bit with what I want to RP as which frequently leads me to give up on characters after a few months as they've done too many things I dislike/acted like an idiot too many times.

ESO's combat design tends to favor either being flashy and spammy or doing a very limited number of things.

Neither approach really appeals that much to me which generally means that the characters I optimize will end up in the utility pile eventually.

I have a handful of alts that I play occasionally. I quest with them, and do the occasional dungeon and battleground.

I play my main 99% of the time. On occasion, when I'm bored, I'll play an alt, so I tend to play them in spurts. For example, I finally finished the main quest a few days ago with an alt I created at least two years ago. Now she'll collect dust for a while.

The way AwA affected the zone maps drastically reduced my desire to play alts, which is why I don't play them much.

7 characters now, one is a level 21 warden that I was leveling up for trials until I saw the only builds are frost staff and bumbling bear ult. She’s on hold for now.

The other 6 all do daily crafting writs, my main is the master crafter and the one with all the skyshards and quests, and 3 are PvP toons. One is a trials toon. The sorc is my new Oakensoul build that I just got geared out and haven’t tried much yet.

Two of them have their own houses for various reasons, mostly to show off achievements, working on a third.

The PvP toons generally don’t have as many skyshards because I want to get them set up and into Cyrodiil as fast as possible.

I have 12 toons, soon to be 13 once the expansion drops. Most are created for different role playing ideas, some were created just to try out the class, and a few were mules. All my toons can do crafting writs, but only has everything researched.

    My Mains:
    1. High Elf Warden. My main guy. Made him for the ranger roleplay and just fell in love with him. He's my crafter, main antiquarian, and does all the quests first. Typically do bow/bow and healer on him.
    2. High Elf Dragonknight. I've race changed him so many times. I think he started as a Nord. Eventually, I changed him to be a Dark Elf, which he remained for years, until recently. I just decided I wanted a blood-elf feeling fire mage. Felt him becoming a staple of my gameplay. Since I tend to favor High Elves over the other races, I decided to change him.
    3. High Elf Templar. When I started the game, I played Templar on PC. For whatever reason, I got away from that when I came to PSN. I made a human templar first, but it didn't scratch the itch like a High Elf does, so made this guy and play him as Bash, DW or Bow/Bow. Also like healing on him. Going for the whole paladin vibe.
    4. Dark Elf Nightblade. My bad guy. Created him to do Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, along with just general Dunmer roleplay. I tend to play him as a vampire or stamblade.

    My Occasionals:
    1. Imperial Templar. My original templar, going for the classic knight vibe. He wears regal armor and a broadsword.
    2. High Elf Sorcerer. My original toon on my PSN account. I was going for the traditional wizard vibe, and just never found it. I don't hate the toon, but enjoy some classes way more.
    3. High Elf Nightblade. Honestly, don't know why I made him. Maybe because I wanted a better looking nightblade who was less evil and more mind-mage. I like healing on him and really like magblade, so I'll play him semi-regularly.

    My backburners:
    1. Nord Warden. Made him for some good Nord roleplay. He's a werewolf, my tank, and berserker. I tend to play my main when I play warden, so he's in storage.
    2. Nord Sorcerer. Made him for some Thor roleplay. I don't mind stamsorc, but there's more fun options, so he's on the backburner while I enjoy those other options.
    3. Imperial Dragonknight. Going for the Blades/Samurai vibe. Head-canon is he's a devotee of Akatosh. Playing him as a 2H'er. Took him briefly out of storage to work on skyshards and weapon lines during the XP event.
    4. Breton Necromancer. Original made him to be my bad guy content main, but quickly fell in love with the Nightblade instead. Could never find any aesthetic I liked with him, and don't like the class itself much outside of healing. Magcro isn't bad, but there's more fun options I focus on.
    5. Breton Warden. My only true mule. He crafts and stores stuff.

I have the main I had back in beta and launch and she's now an alt I don't play much but can't delete.
I have the second toon I came back to and she's now my main - crafter and DPS.
I briefly dallied in a necromancer and she was the first to hit 50. I then went back to the second lass (nightblade) to git better.
Then I have a ton of additional alts that I mostly roleplay on, or just experiment with.

Lots of fun :) Can't wait for the Necrom additional character ;)

All but one are level 50 in all crafting skill lines and able to do daily writs. Only one is crafter and has learnt all traits. However all can craft their own potions and enchants.
do they do dungeons or pvp?
    All of them PvP.
3 out of 8 do PvE.
One is a true group DD, also a lightweight tank via gear change, and also a solo character.
One is a hybrid tank/DD carry build for dungeons and a tough solo character.
One is a dedicated tank, but also has a DD option via the armory.
All have multiple gear sets (Dressing Room addon) and all can switch to PvP via the armory.
    Are all your alts geared?
    Yes.
Are there alts that are a lil dusty cos you never played them in a long while?
Yes. No. Not exactly. They all PvP in Cyro at least once a month for transmute crystals. 3x NBs for different alliances are the same build with minor differences. My warden and stamplar see the least use.
Do you rp on any of your alts?
No. Unless you count using occasional emotes or the fact that my warden is called "Your Ex-Girlfriend".
Do your alts have their own home and zones they frequent?
No. They're usually all parked next to the crafting writ board in Vivec City.
    Do you style your alts?
They all have their own outfits.
Do you perhaps do all achievements on your alts?
    I don't care about achievements.
Do they all have wayshrines opened to them in every zone and all the skyshards?
One or two once had all skyshards. These days it feels pointless. Just do all the public dungeon group events, including some DLC, and you have a viable character.
recently i started working on getting all skyshards for each of them...i started clearing zones alphetically
I've been more interested in completing the stickerbook.
...im also working on gearing some alts for 3 pvp factions.
If you have friends in different factions or you want to low pop grind AP, that makes sense.
PC EU: Magblade (PvP main), DK (PvE Tank), Sorc (PvP and PvE), Magden (PvE Healer), Magplar (PvP and PvE DD), Arcanist (PvE DD)
PC NA: Magblade (PvP and PvE every role)

Since levelling alts became quick and easy, I've maxed out all character slots with maxed and geared chars across both servers.

This enables me to have all roles on different classes capable of performing to a decent level in end game content whenever or for whatever is needed, so farming for gear, motifs, xp, gold etc whether in vet trials, dungeons and solo arenas or overland and normal dungeons is convienient and easy.

Also having several master crafters and PVP chars on tap is of great benefit when it comes to mats, transmute crystals and AP, and allows me to be completely self sufficient and earn significant gold at the same time.

I like to theory craft too, especially when major updates and buffs and nerfs come along, so having a wide range of characters on demand is great.

Lastly, having all character slots filled allows me to use some as mules which helps me to keep organised! :)

across all accounts/platforms/servers uhhh ~40? but i only actively play on the eu playstation server on which i have 18 characters and soon 19.

when i use my other characters i do daily crafting writs, daily dungeons, daily quests, or zone story quests
only about 4 characters besides my main character that actually have builds though

i give them all outfits and matching mounts and pets
like my orsimer warden has a bear mount, bear cub pet, and wears the nord carved helmet because that's a bear too

they're all in a major city for crafting writs, either leyawiin, alinor, or gonfalon bay.

I have 8 Alts as of right now, soon to be 9. I have a Khajiit family that makes up 5 of them; One NB, One DK, One Spec, 2 Templars. I also have one Argonian Warden, one Argonian Necro, and soon to be a new Argonian Arcanist. My last Alt is my first ever character I made, a Nord NB, that I played a tiny bit with before switching to my long-since main. All my characters have a story to them (with the exception of the Nord), so even if they don't get much use, they are kept around for their stories and place.

That said, most do have a set role for them. My main, the Khajiit NB is as you'd expect. The Sorc I have set up to power level companions, the DK *was* going to be for PvP, but the idea has since been stopped. The older Templar (The mother and longest made character) is my main for healer, my Argonian Necro is used to farm Tel'Var, my Argonian Warden is used more for PvP and is my second favourite though I still need to make a new PvE build.
The younger Templar (The daughter, who originally was a DK until I remade her a Templar), currently has no designated use. I was considering using her to replay quests again after so long, though with the Arcanist coming and the whole theme of knowledge and what-not, feels fitting to use them as it instead!

I have 8 characters, all with backstories and personalities worked out, although I rarely role-play with other people, which informs how they act and what they do. (Although in reality it's often the other way around, I invent the personality to suit what I know they'll be doing in the game.)

3 are 'main' characters who will eventually do most of the game. (Khajiit templar, breton warden and argonian nightblade.) They're each slowly working through different parts of PvE and I play whichever one/s I happen to feel like playing on the day.

One is a dedicated crafter who usually only leaves town to do surveys and otherwise collect materials. He also manages the bank and guild store and holds stuff I don't have space to sell yet, because he's usually in town so it's more convenient.

One I made because I wanted a tank and didn't have a suitable character, but she's also become my main events and endeavours character because she doesn't do any of the main storylines and her backstory involves her being very impulsive and also a mercenary, so it's not a problem for me if she drops what she was doing to go halfway across the world to do something else for a bit.

One is my dedicated evil character - vampire, necromancer, Thief, Assassin, random mass-murderer and all around terrible person I made specifically for things I wanted to try out which my other characters would never do. I actually don't play him often because I don't really enjoy that sort of thing (although I do like the thieves guild quests even if I'm terrible at stealth) but it's useful to have a character who will do it for when I want.

One is a sorcerer I made just because I didn't have a sorcerer and I wanted to try the class. I don't play him often, but when I do he's pretty much doing PvE questing.

The last one is a bit of an experiment - a redguard templar who uses no magic. So no class skills, not joining the Mages Guild or Psijic Order, etc. I usually have at least one character in TES games who doesn't use magic and I thought it was interesting that it's actually kind of hard to avoid in ESO so I wanted to try it.

I don’t have alts, just two characters.

My Saxhleel alchemist dwells in the swamps and is a quiet, secretive sort with a deep interest in the pre-Duskfall era. He’s a magicka Warden and is used for most content. My other character, a Dunmer bookseller and occasional antiquarian, is an amiable mer preferring humility and modesty. Neither has any interest in wars or petty squabbles, factions are meaningless to them, armour and clothing leans towards muted and functional, and my Saxhleel crafts things ‘when he feels like it’.

I play both in very different ways and never get bored with them.

I don't have "a main and alts" in ESO, or in any MMORPG I play. I have multiple characters who I regard as equal individuals.

As a result of AwA I abandoned my two original accounts with about 60 characters, and created a single new account with one character on PC EU who does all achievements, and currently 15 characters on PC NA who share most achievements although I'm only fishing with one character. They all craft. The single character does antiquities, as does only one character at present among the multiple ones.

All my characters are regularly played, but they vary in the amount of time played and the levels reached. The single character on PC EU has just over 500 CPs, while the multiple characters on PC NA vary between levels 15 and 32. I divide my time pretty evenly between the servers and playing in the UK I don't notice any difference in performance between the servers given my playstyle.

I run outdoor questing and exploration including dolmens and delves, housing and crafting. I do those endeavours that fit in with my gameplay. The multiple characters each tend to do different content, so one may be advancing through the base game content for one alliance while another does so for a different alliance. Another one may be running the main quest, or focusing on a particular Chapter or DLC.

In the main I only do daily crafting writs when they're needed for "complete 2 quests" type endeavours, and I generally don't otherwise do daily quests or all events and certainly never out of a sense of daily compulsion or "grind". I just play for fun, not as a chore, and this way I find any game stays fresh. I usually have at least one other game I also play which at the moment is Wartales.

14 in total, whenever I had an idea for a character I just made it and worried about skills/gear later. They all use different sets that I wanted to try out, in at least purple quality. I'd consider 4 of them to be vet dungeon worthy and 3 to be completely unsuited even for normals. One is a thief character whom I purposefully keep underleveled and who only steals. They're all useful for farming things like motifs from dailies, event boxes or transmutes from rnds and Tribute dailies. So far 2 have played the story all the way through, as well as most of the side quests in their alliance's zones, enough to earn the title of alliance hero. They are styled based on whatever theme I had in mind for them and use the appropriate cosmetics. For example, one is a technophile who rides a Dwemer spider, uses the Mad Tinkerer set and wields engine guardian weapons. They all have some kind of backstory and personality that I came up with when I was bored, but I don't RP aside from some occasional in-character talk with friends. Obviously, I don't have time to play with all of them so the least adequate ones are gathering dust, and will likely remain that way forever unless I suddenly have an amazing idea how to make them usable without deviating from their theme.

I have multiple accounts that i use for various purposes some for trade, some for storage, some for pve, and 34 for daily writs. Theres probably only 1 or 2 i use for extended periods but the rest are just practical.

34 for daily writs? Omg...incredible...that is a lot ..wow !!!

I read your reply carefully as i do with all my replies as i respect the time and effort you all put into your answers. I really understand what you are saying here. I feel for you cos you are a deep thinker when it comes to rping your characters and developing their stories but unfortunately you have felt unable to achieve your goals. Thank you for sharing and i hope you have better experiences moving forwards.

Just to include statistics from the "other" part of the pie chart! :)
I have 0 alts, I just don't seem to have enough gaming time in my life to manage with more than 1 character.
(this is NOT a negative comment on those who do manage with multiple characters, by the way, so no offence intended)

Thank you for being here i really appreciate your input..you matter 😊
