In addition to what Jaraal said, you can replace the draft with a single period and 'save draft' (not 'post reply'!). This is why some of my posts start with a period, and why occasionally there is a post from me that is just a period. Be aware that the latter is "spam", so if you end up with an unintended post, 'flag' it and ask for it to be deleted.
I am sure I have hundreds of these saved drafts as I never go back and delete them.

They didn't look like mushrooms they were more like simple poles. They needed a lot of water. And...
the fossils do not display structures usually found in fungi
And they were from a time of no creatures bigger than caterpillas. Wldnt have coped with Elk.
