Maintenance for the week of September 1:
• [COMPLETE] Xbox: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 3, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)
• [COMPLETE] PlayStation®: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 3, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)

This is good and all but uh, where are the cloaks/capes?

I wish a moderator would lock this thread and let it die. Of all the things in this game, and all the problems like the hideous perma-red-focus that hides whatever you want to do with your nightblade, cape or no. Take a look at GW2 — they added capes and they’re the most ridiculous-looking things ever. But people can ask for whatever they like of course so long as I don’t have to use it, just maybe fix all the stuff that’s broken first please?

Speaking of which, I need to log on and see if last night’s patch fixed my outfits…

    Me too.

Also I remember something in guild wars 2 from before I recieved an account action, I really loved all the different types of cosmetic back items (capes, wings, cloaks, scarfs, etc) and how good each one of my characters looked wearing those. The animation quality, vfx, and physics were amazing.

Also I really likes this specific type of cape from gw2. It flowed in the breeze and twirled around my character.vbtmy0khooka.jpg
    (Screenshot taken in 2022)

Even if it snot possible, I would love for eso one day to give clothing realistic animations and physics too.

In order to have "realistic clothing animations" ESO would have to become ESO 2. I don't think that's very likely.

Guys... The game doesn't need to have capes/cloaks with realistic physics to... welll, have capes/cloaks. I mean... the game even had released advertising with capes, there's even an ESO trailer in which capes appear.

We all know that the cloaks were only removed for performance reasons... And I imagine that in 2024, 10 years later, these issues will have already been resolved... right... zenimax?

"Oh, but I don't want to!"

Wait, you don't want other players to be able to use capes? For no reason?

You don't have to use it if you don't want to... you know.

I never understand this mentality of "oh, I don't want it in my character, so don't add it!"

Cloaks are part of the Elder Scrolls franchise - even if they are not often used in the games themselves, they are in the arts, in the concept arts, in the trailers, in the statues... And they make sense, with the universe.

So, we have a piece of clothing that CANONICALLY is part of the entire Elder Scrolls franchise and there are people who say "don't add it because I don't like it ò.ó"

It really doesn't make any sense to me

While I do agree with everything you said about capes being canon to TES and that it doesn't make sense that people either want cloaks that perfectly flow in the games fake wind or none at all.... sadly, the problems have definitely not been fixed even 10 years later and it's unlikely that they ever will be. Especially with the direction the game is currently going and being managed.

I don't recall anyone saying they weren't canon. Canon lore has nothing to do with it, and many people have pointed out they're in the artwork.

What people don't want, are WoW and GW2 cloaks, you know, the kind we'd get. Mostly static and garbage looking. And I'd be demanding they be cosmetic only and that I can hide everyone's stupid looking cape.

They are possible in the game, provided you don't want to carry a weapon that would clip when sheathed. So no two-handed, bows, staves, swords, maces, daggers, or axes.

If you want a cape, you'll have to agree to be unarmed, or never put your weapon away, (so no interaction with crafting stations, or resource nodes.) Could get tricky to play the game while wearing a cape.

Of course cloaks and capes are part of the ESO universe! But yes, I believe we would need some emulation of physics for them to not look like ridiculous flags sticking off of characters (which is how I would characterize “capes” in GW2).

I think you're right in that some people are irrationally against it, but I personally don't want this to ever happen without significant game optimizations happening all around. Having played since launch and witnessed quite a bit, I worry that performance would tank with a zone full of people in cloaks.

And about that, sorry to write a second comment, I ended up not reading it...

Look, honestly... Nowadays ESO supports things it never would. Hundreds of players walking around with companions, or even the necromancer/arcanist classes, to me, are proof of how much they've improved the game's optimization. (It is a class with many more particles and effects than any other class).

    I don't think super complex physics emulation is necessary. From my perspective, a simple animation would be enough (in my opinion). We have this type of fabric animation, for example, on the camel saddles in the game;

I don't know, I really don't think the game is in the same state as it was 10 years ago. And I played at that time. A time when they needed to remove Cyrodiil's trees to improve performance... At least for me, many things improved: quantity of effects, quality, textures, number of things rendered, distance rendering, even my fps improved over that time, and I didn't I had great improvements on my computer.
Their game-engine can't handle it, simple as that.

If the engine couldn't support it, the cloaks wouldn't be in the game's early trailers. It was a question of performance at the time. And like I said, I think they've improved the game's performance considerably in recent years.

Yes, they removed it before the game's official release, so it doesn't appear later.

I don't know if I implied that it was in more than one trailer, English is not my mother tongue, so I may have made a mistake, srry about that

Yes, it really is because of the communication barrier. LOL.

In Portuguese, sometimes we construct a sentence with the plural in mind to emphasize something.

For example: At the beginning of the text, I said it was in "an trailer". Later I say, "he cloaks wouldn't be in the game's early trailers" to emphasize.

I did exactly the same thing here: "arts, in the concept arts, in the trailers, in the statues", I never even thought that this could have a dubious interpretation, interesting!

Again, sorry for the miscommunication haha
