Those were my two favourite dlcs to be honest. No world saving, no pathos, just two self contained storis with events of local magnitude. But I just liked TG better. It had nicer characters, for me they had kinda the vibe of Robin Hood's Merry Men. And the locations were gorgeous. Just look at some of the screenshots I took (CAUTION! THEY MAY BE CONSIDERED SPOILERS!).

Thieves guild has better story (bunch of stories), characters and zone. Abah's Landing is rather intricate town. If you begin with low Legerdemain it can be rather frustrating grind.
Dark brotherhood is more straightforward and less laborious and you get the pleasure to kill a lot of citizens. Shadow Rider passive is rather nice for overland.

I'm currently doing Thieves guild with yet another alt. Wearing 5 Mothers embrace, 4 Darloc Brae and 3 Night terror makes parts of it less stressful... (Cheapest you can find in any quality / trait does the job. It's mostly not about fighting.)

I liked the story of the Thieves Guild a lot better but like the setting of DB more. I only go to Hew's Bane during events, I'm on the Gold Coast a few times a week.

Thieves guild was much more challenging. Had to sneak around do puzzles climb stuff figure out secret entrances etc etc. DB crouch stab crouch stab repeat though entire story. Thieves guild was the last DLC that had any challenge every year quests got easier and easier

Exactly my thoughts. Both introduced new, interesting playstyles (burglary and pickpocketing for TG, assassination for DB), but IMO TG is far better than DB.

I hope ZOS will return to these type of DLCs after they scrapped the year long story.

Thieves Guild has one of the best storylines of any DLC. In particular, the characters are great. There have been DLC and Chapters with more epic and involved storylines, but I don't think there has been a DLC where I genuinely liked and cared for the characters as much as I did in Thieves Guild.

The Thieves Guild daily "heists" are quite difficult when you start out. They take a lot of practice and the right gear setup to beat timer. They are kind of fun once you get the hang of them, though.

Gold Coast has a good story, too. But characters are not as warm and likeable, although I guess that is to be expected when dealing with a lot of Sithis worshiping amoral killers! The location is gorgeous. They really nail the feel of Italian countryside, which makes sense for the Roman-inspired Imperial culture.

The Dark Brotherhood daily "sacraments" are both easier and harder than the Thieves Guild heists. There is no initial timer (although there is an escape timer once you complete sacrament) and fewer targets. There is a bit more leeway for getting seen. But there are a lot of really annoying configurations of guards and civilians and targets where, if you want to not get caught at all, you end up sitting around in a hiding spot for what seems like a half hour while you wait for this dance of 16 NPCs to finally arrange themselves where you have a split second to kill your target without being seen. So I guess Sacraments are easier to complete but harder to master than Heists?

I think both are worth owning, but I would start with Thieves Guild.

I loved both stories but TG suited my tastes more. Also I love Cyrodiil and its cities more than any others in TES, but Hews Bane overall is objectively better made. The city is incredible for ESO standards. So so beautiful and well made.

TES Oblivion is my favorite game but them sticking to the Oblivion layout of Anvil really holds it back; IMO there isn't a need to make near-exact layout copies when making cities that appeared in the previous games. I probably can guess correctly why it's done though.

    on the sacrements:
-stealth killing other npcs can make assassinating your target easier.
-if you kill the patrolling lantern guards fast enough you arent counted as 'seen', provided other npcs dont witness you

I liked the NPCs better, and even though I do the Dark Brotherhood in all the TES games and did it in ESO, I don't really like being an assassin. I'm not keen on being a thief either, but at least killing is discouraged.

(Though in ESO, I love killing people with the Blade of Woe for some reason. :) )

Yes, you have the main story, then Queens story, Walks softly ones and Velsa. And they are kind of tied together organically.

The Thieves Guild sticks in my head as possibly the best writing of ANY quest in ANY Elder Scrolls game apart from, maybe, the original Dark Brotherhood quest in Oblivion. ESO Dark Brotherhood I simply can't remember, which says a lot.

Both zones were really well done, though, and Hew's Bane is probably my favourite zone to just hang out in (Gold Coast and Murkmire being runners up) because it's so different from everywhere else and the effort that went into it bleeds from every pixel.

(Not mad keen on having to grind the skill line for either DLC, though, and the stealth mechanics in Thieves Guild are a pain.)

Thieves guild by far, however they could have worked up the iron wheel a bit more by having us join as people were being executed. The main antagonist reveal was nice too.

there were so many endings to the stories, and the locations of the endings depend on your alliance started as, which is a nice touch. Player choices mattered. Hew's Bane as a node farming area is very rich in resources as well.

Dark Brotherhood was written like a campy horror mystery script. Some of the characters make really idiotic choices that make you want to scream at them (i'm looking at you, Green-Venom-Tongue). The best thing to come out of this DLC is Elam Dras and Remains-Silent. The armor is terribad.

To be clear, I think it's a travesty that both DLC haven't received any love since being released. Both DLC have an enormous amount of potential (Justice System, Treasures, Assassinations, Blade of Woe, instanced missions) and it's sad to see how neglected they both have been. Meanwhile Antiquities, Companions, and ToT receive new content every release now. Just sad IMO.

I voted for Thieves Guild because Dark Brotherhood was just soo lacking in reach and content. Thieves Guild has a personal sin for me that Hew's Bane is just such a missed opportunity... but Dark Brotherhood is just too lite on content in comparison and didn't provided anything that interacts with the rest of the game (Blade of Woe). At least the Thieves Guild DLC attempted to integrate itself in with the rest of the game, The Dark Brotherhood is just a parasitic design and total missed opportunity.

First off, the Blade of Woe is one of the most worthwhile skills in the game. But the "kill the target without being caught" missions with the Dark Brotherhood ended up being to aggravating for the reward and made me dislike that DLC more.

Either way, it would be nice to see ESO revamp or add to these DLCs. Both turned out to be grinding bores after the storyline missions ended.

But imagine Daggerfall roughly laid out the way it was in Daggerfall 1996, with some creative license to add hills etc. instead of being totally flat and square.

I prefer Thieves Guild for the daily quests and slightly more useful skill line.

It's tough to choose just one, because I think both are equally great, but I'm going with the Dark Brotherhood DLC because of the zone and its nostalgic connection to TES4: Oblivion. It's awesome that we get to see the previously-unseen area of Hew's Bane in the Thieves Guild DLC, but those Kotu Gava Broodmothers are so annoying!

I would've picked DB but between the two Thieves Guild did add more more.
Trial, an assistant, (imo) a better skillset, the Thieves Trove's.

Both DLC are fantastic, on a purely aesthetic-vibe DB would get my vote as I absolutely love The Gold Coast, far far more than Hews Bane.

Both DLC added good things though and I honestly wish the features they added were used much more.
Like the hidden caches that you can find in them, such a shame they didn't continue with those.

I wish the contracts for both Guilds extended into the new zones, I wish we could visit other DB Sanctuaries in those new zones.

    Dark Brotherhood.

The Gold Coast is one of the areas I visit the most when I'm just goofing off/relaxing.

My good characters generally don't do that many of the quests but, my more evil characters have done them and enjoy them with a few exceptions at times.

I only visit Hew's Bane if I have to get something.

The main quest line in the Thieves Guild don't really appeal to either my good or my evil characters because it doesn't really do a good job of serving the character's interests.

It's like Skyrim's thieves guild which was always a bit mediocre except, you don't need to be a member to have easy access to fences and the person that wronged the Thieves Guild never did much of anything to you which puts a sizeable damper on your motivation.

With the introduction of leads in lockboxes, like the Oakensoul lead in Murkmire, using the Blade of Woe to kill the adds to prevent being caught was almost necessary. Without it, it would have made the grind even worse. I use it for all the master thief accomplishments, as well as eliminating adds on sneak missions

I'm still annoyed that since they launched nothing further has been done with either system introduced.
No new heists or sacraments, no additional depth to the justice system.
Just like the fighters and mages guild, they have been dropped into the game and then basically ignored.
