IMHO, the Map add-on isn't really game-breaking. It just notes where and what you harvested at that spot. It's like you having a digital photographic memory. Now, if it collated and shared information between players, that might be game-breaking.
Sorry, I didn't mean it to come off that way if it did. What I was referring to was a generic "this is a thread about addons, how to use them, etc" should stay relatively unbiased, for the sake of presentation. Adding bias, IE: opinion, lowers the perceived "value" of the thread in a "generic" sense. It was just advice, that's all. Would've had the same post from me regardless of the list of addons you'd included in the OP. Just trying to help.Fair enough, ill try to be more inclusive, i started this post with the intention of just sharing the add-ons i was currently using and as a short guide for new players who are not familiar with how sites like ESOUI and add-ons in general work. Far from me to act as a pretentious *** and pick and choose between so many good options.
That being said, i'm thinking of restructuring it into a more useful format with addon categories and different alternatives for each, that i will test and give my own take on them.
ZOS has locked down the Lua functionality so that it cannot read external files or interact with external objects or programs. Lua, for TESO, can only talk to the game's API and nothing more. All I know is I have been burned in the past by .LUA scripts. I used an add-on from I name I recognized and thought was trustworthy. They managed to scrape a lot of personal non-related stuff from my hard drive and send it out. I don't know how they coded it but it happened. I ended up checking the file they were reading and saw what they were reading off my drive - browser password caches, browser history, cookie files, even copying off my Quicken data files. (I don't think they could use them with the encryption I use, but worrying.) While I am still willing to use add-ons that don't want my data, I won't send anything out using that format.
Awesome work, man.
You maybe want to add curse.com and Curse Client to your list?
curse.com is listing add-ons in pretty many online games and offers a client that is actively monitoring any updates to installed addons as well as it is capable of doing a oneclick installation for downloaded addons without you copying files somewhere in your system.
Curse has really missed the ball on TESO. ESOUI at least takes the game seriously. Curse client doesn't even recognize the game properly.Awesome guide I might have to give that ESOUI site a shot, as i'm having an issue where Curse client isn't listing any addons (it makes it a bit more hectic to search and install ... )
So, what would be the top 5 Add-on's in everyone's opinion?
I totally see and understand that... I personally prefer the compass now that I'm used to it. Tried the minimap and very quickly got rid of it. (just to show how different personal preferences can be).I would be hard pressed to choose a for top 5 add-on list, the Mini-map add-on is probably the most useful for me while navigating and exploring the world, i view as at least one of the essential add-ons i would recommend for anyone.
I'm just now building my own Quest Tracker... if you mean the one Zerorez has published, I'm not affiliated with it and no longer use it. Didn't suit my preferences.

I now return you to your previously scheduled topic....
