I finally managed to get my loader working, following this guide in the link, specifically the section mentioning adobe flash being the culprit. I also went into IE, internet options, connections, LAN setting and disabled automatically detect settings.
I had to re download the game and re install it and then restart, ran it as administrator and it worked. These two things are the only fixes that worked for me

    Hi,
I had pre-ordered and for this whole week I could not get my ESO to launch.

    Here are things I've tried:
    • March 31st - Initial download unable to launch and uninstalled to re-install updated launcher; ran this with AVG suspended
    • April 1st - Unable to lauch with new installer - ran the new repair option. Also reconfigured Windows firewall to allow; AVG still suspended
    • April 2nd - And to step away from problem due to fustration
    • April 3rd - Re-opened launcher allowed updates tried to launch again. Nothing.

I have attached the following files requested except for laucher.settings. I am unable to open up the file as well as attach it to this comment.

Running Windows 7 64-bit OS, 4G memory, ATI Radeon HD 420, AMD Sempron(TM) 140 processor

ESO was launch in the NA - Hawaii/Pacific region
ESO Launcher happy loads updates and alerts but still does not lauch the game.

I really hope you can help me solve this problem and please don't hesitate to ask me for more information. I am just as willing to help in case this can help somone else.

    Thank you for your time

The game won't launch, I hit play and it grays out for a sec and then nothing happens. I want to try the "UserSettings.txt" fix but I don't even have a "The Elder Scrolls Online" folder in "My Documents". I have tried multiple other troubleshooting fixes (reinstalling after clean reboot/deactivating anti-virus software, etc) and nothing has worked. Please help.

I'm having the same problem as well. I'm trying to launch the game from the launcher by pressing play, but the play button would shade out and the game won't launch... I've tried everything: customer support, repairing the game files, uninstalling and installing the game... I wish there would be a hot fix coming soon for this because I really want to play... Help?

Is the login queue system broken? It never progresses to put me into a queue or past the 1 sec for waiting time. Then after about 10 min it gives me an login error and tells me to try again. I've tried for over an hour tonight and never had login problems before this.

In this game I had so far managed to see the `play' buttons twice even though I should had access since the 5 days pre-launch.

Both times were just after patching. At the end of patching I noticed a notice sign saying that the patching was not completed (99%) but as the play button lit up, both times I just went in. The first time (30th March) I managed to play the game for 4 hours but once I exit, I cannot log in anymore. I had already reported this to the Game Support and by now, they answer me about once every 3 days, without any solution.

Just after the patch on Thursday night (9th April), I was able to log in suddenly and repatched (I had reinstall my entire game in the bid to play this game earlier). Again, the patch showed 99% before an alert tells me the patch was NOT completed but yet the Play button came on. I didn't log in this time. I exited the game and tried to log in. Again the Loading screen flash before my comp without ending.

If this is what the other players experienced here, I suspect there could be some programme in the computer stopping the download. However, I strongly believe this is ESO's job to sort out which programme and find a solution until now they had not done for me.

It is not my job to keep reading the forum to find a solution. I am not wasting time to read hundreds of forum entries to solve a game problem which coders should detect and solve.I had last checked my mail again and I had not seen any reply from the Game Support for last 2 days (and the last one doesn't bring up any solution either). Now, I had already waited for 5 pre-launch + 1 week of paid game time for a solution. I had already contacted customer support and they had only told me to wait. I had already cancelled my subscription even though I do want to get on to play the game.

Game support guys here. Any solution or should I call it quits?

I have not had trouble logging on up until now. It started with a quest that wasn't working in Greenshade, so I relogged and abandoned quest to retry it. I didn't get a chance to as my game froze. So I closed the game and reopened, tried to log in, and it froze. Closed it, retry. Happened 6 times. Tried different character in Daggerfall - same thing.

Restart computer. Same stuff happening. Ran the repair utility, still freezing up. So I don't know what else to do. Help please! :(

UPDATE: I fixed this. It was on my end. For anyone who might have my problem: it was caused by an addon! I disable all my addons and things finally loaded and stayed that way. The culprit was a gold spam filter "X4D_LibAntiSpam", the rest of my addons and other gold filters do work.

The fix for the main issue of this thread is by running the launcher directly from the file ESO is in, not just the shortcut.

The launcher was letting me hit play before it even patched. I came here to see if others are having the same problem and sometime during the 2-5min I was looking, it started patching.

I would have to say this is the same problem most people are having right now, they just don't realize it.

I left the Launcher up after it patched, when I came back to grab my drink it had a little window that said something about not being able to obtain the current version. I now have a Repair button instead of Play.

    To recap

I opened the launcher about 30 minutes ago to make sure I was patched up when I have the chance to play later even if its a large patch.

It came up with the Play button. I thought this was odd since there are patch notes so I came to the forums to see what was going on.

Sometime within the five or so minutes I was looking on the forums it started patching, it finished and gave me the Play button.

I was away from the computer for another 5 minutes or so and a window came up about not being able to obtain the current version and the Play button was replaced with Repair.

Wile updating this post it has changed back to a Play button.

I haven't clicked on anything in the launcher other than closing the popup about not being able to obtain current version. It has done this all on its own in the 35-40 minutes since I started it.

I is sad that this problem has been hopping around from person to person since 5 day EA and no one tries to address the issues in the patches or even says we are trying to work on it, I have been sick the past 3 days so I had nothing to do with my time but play ESO but for 50+ hours now I have not been able to get past the character selection screen because the ESO server's IP address times out 1sec after peaking and I haven't been able to get into the game since then even though I have tried and done everything I have been told, I mean I can understand this problem if the server is being flooded at a surtain time of day where everyone is logging in but to do this every 5mins over the time of 50+ hours and you still fail every time? unacceptable hands down and i wouldnt be mad if someone atleast talked to me trying t help atleast once every 5 hours but the last reply I got from anyone was asking me for my dxdiag and that was over 19hours ago

Well I had no problems untill I just installed this new patch...

I have been having issue since May 1st. Beta and production ESO worked excellent on my system before this!

Every time, after loading the launcher, after clicking 'Play' in launcher, the button greys out... cursor changes to hourglass, briefly, then a few seconds later, my system freezes entirely, and I have to hard reboot.

Have tried UserSettings.text file editing for SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D11" as well as SET GraphicsDriver.7 "Open GL".

Have tried SET FullscreenHeight "1080" SET FullscreenWidth "1920" since that is my monitor native display, also tried default "0", neither changed anything.

Have set to run launcher and .exe as admin.

DirectX is up to date. Removed/re-installed adobe flash and java just in case, and made sure no previous versions installed.

Reinstalled video card drivers, last installed was Nvidia beta, which did not help.

Completely removed ESO beta, and production versions, and reinstalled client,
    no luck.

Attached is current UserSettings.txt, and can provide anything else that may help. This has been a real bummer of a time, any help greatly appreciated!

Received a fast response below, and followed suggestions to no avail.
Sharing, since perhaps others will find these suggestions useful. Good luck!
    ____________________________________________________________________

    Dear Cad,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

    In response to your suggestions:

    1. Editing the UserSettings.txt file.
The UserSettings.txt file was found with already having: SET RequestedNumThreads "0"

    2. Start the computer in Selective Startup
Tried this many times in previous troubleshooting instances. Tried again after receiving your suggestions, to no avail.

    3. Reinstalling the launcher.
Today, I fully uninstalled the game, and launcher, re-downloaded the game, and updated the launcher. However, when receiving this suggestion, I performed the steps again as suggested, and still received the exact same result of a frozen system when hitting the 'Play' button in the launcher.

Also to note, I have run virus/malware scans from multiple vendors, with zero found. I have no active virus scan running when trying to play the game.

Overall, I have spent greater than twelve hours troubleshooting this sudden inability to launch your game. I would appreciate some solution.

Please find attached, the most recent game consultant report for my system.

    Thank you!

    Hi Thomas,

Sorry that you are having this problem with the launcher. We will try everything we can to get you back in the game. You have tried a lot of good steps that sometimes resolves a launcher issue. Below I have listed a few more steps that players have used to fix an issue like yours.

    1. Editing the UserSettings.txt file.
    1. Go to "My Documents\The Elder Scrolls Online\Live" and look for the 'UserSettings.txt' file. Then perform the following steps:
    2. Open 'UserSettings.txt' with Notepad
    3. Press Ctrl + F and search for 'RequestedNumThreads'
    4. This brings you to the line 'SET RequestedNumThreads "X"' (with a number instead of X)
    5. Change that number to 0 (zero, not the letter O)
    6. Save and close the document
    7. Restart the launcher and try to launch the game

    2. Start the computer in Selective Startup
To put your computer in selective startup mode, follow these steps:
    1. Press the "Windows" key and "R" on your keyboard.
    2. In the run window, type 'msconfig'
    3. To place your computer into selective start up:
    a. On the General Tab at the top, click on the Selective startup radio button
    b. Uncheck "Load startup items"
    4. Click on the Services tab at the top
    a. On the Services tab check the Hide all Microsoft services check box at the bottom
    5. Click the Disable all button at the bottom
    6. Click Apply, then click OK
    7. Restart your computer
When your computer boots up again, it will be in selective startup. Try the game again, and see if you have different results. Once you have tried the game, if everything works fine, then one of the service or startup programs was causing the issues you were seeing.
To reverse this process simply follow the steps again reversing the changes that where made.
** Note ** AVG's PC Cleanup and Webroot Antivirus cause big issues and will not be stopped by selective startup and need to be disabled manually by the user. (End the process in Task Manager)

    3. Reinstalling the launcher.
In this situation, players should first try and repair the game client. They can do so by following the process below:

    Copy the Depot Folder
    1. Locate the 'Depot' folder inside the "Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online" directory
    2. Cut and Paste the 'Depot' folder to your desktop
    Uninstall the Game Client
    1. Locate the 'ProgramData' folder in the "Zenimax Online\Launcher"directory
    2. Delete the 'ProgramData' folder.
    3. Open the launcher.
    4. From the launcher, select the title of the relevant game client
    5. Click "Game Options" (near the center of the launcher)
    6. From the "Game Options" drop-down, select "Uninstall"
    7. Go to your control panel and access add remove programs and remove "The Elder Scrolls: Online" if it still remains
    Install the Game Client
    1. From the launcher, select the game client
    2. Click "Install"
    3. Once it is at 1%, cancel the download.
    Paste the Depot Folder
    1. Cut the 'Depot' folder from the desktop
    2. Paste it back to the "Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online"directory.
    3. Choose to overwrite/merge the folders and files.

If you still are unable to launch the game, please attached your game consultant report to your reply email.

Game Consultant is a specialized diagnostic tool designed to identify issues that may be affecting a player's The Elder Scrolls Online play experience. It captures information that can be vital to troubleshooting any hardware issue.
Here is how to find and use it:

Click on the golden cog icon in the top right corner of the game launcher.
Under SETTINGS - LAUNCHER, select the ABOUT tab. This tab includes the current launcher version, minimum specifications, and information about Game Consultant.
Click the "Game Consultant" button beneath the tool description.
A new window will pop up. When it does, click "Run Tests." This may take a few minutes.
When the test is complete, a new window will pop up saying "Success!" The report saves itself as a text file called Report.txt in the My Documents folder.
To retrieve the file, click the "Open Report Location" button on the Game Consultant window, or click "Open Report" to simply view it.

    Thank you for your patience.
