Medium attack

Zos wanted to reduce the impact of weave on dps. But now, thanks to the 80% buff from heavy attacks in PvE, to increase damage, as from a heavy attack, you need to briefly press the left mouse button. Weaving in pve goes to a new level.

Those buffs work mostly on pve. Its easier rotation for noobs just activate empower and hold one mouse button to deal damage. Similiar to skyrim where's heavy attack was good attack.

With changed sets, this leads to some very strange builds in pve.

The bottom line is to include a medium attack in the weave. Increases damage by 20-30% of light attack. And even more with bonuses from sets. Quite an interesting change.

As someone who never light attack weaved and has always been medium attack weaving, what is the trade off currently on live? Doesn't medium attack do more damage and return resources based on the length of time the attack?

It seems like ESO devs are ok with animation canceling and weaving or they'd just eliminate this mechanic since new players can't do it. The only debate now is: how much should light < medium < heavy (fully charged)

Reminds me of Way Back when Resto staff had a passive for +10% to all damage.

No medium attack canceling is way harder to do properly. It requires way more precise timing.

Medium attacks don't restore resources, only fully charged heavies do.

Everything, that is longer than the regular light attack ia registerwd by the engine as a heavy attack. But only fully charged heavy attacks restore ressources.
Hence the name for everything in between: Medium Attacks.
Now, next patch we get an empower buff, that gives 80% more damage to heavy attacks. Everything that the engine registers as a heavy attack...

That creates a situation, where medium attacks, only slightly longer than a light attack, get a hefty 80% boost, too.

They wanted to nerf Light attack weaving to close the dps gap. But if Empower goes live as is, we might get a Situation where Medium Attack weaving is the better option and the dps gap is even bigger than on Live right now.

Get it now? Hope that cleared up some of the confusion. 😁

If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

So what is the end game here? One is going to do more damage and be "most optimal". Some want it to be light attacks, some want it to be heavy attacks. I'm not defending the current 80% buff, just asking what does everyone think the end goal is here? Should they all be the same damage? Should LA < MA < HA (Fully Charged)? Should the new Empower Buff only apply to fully charged HA? Would that make it pointless?

I thought the damage AND resources returned scaled, based on the length of time the attack is "charged", up to a fully charged HA that does the max damage and returns the max resources.

The resource return scales with the length of the heavy attack, but will only activate on a fully charged heavy. What that means is a 2h will restore more than a DW heavy, but medium attacks don't restore resources.

    It's just incredibly clunky imo.

We are seeing 7k+ parses over LA too after just four days of practicing. It's hilarious.

One could say it is harder and requires even more skill so a few % more dmg is merited.

Personally I really hope they change empower to fully charged HA only for next week.
