    Mirri
    Mirri > Isobel > Bastian > Ember

I know some people find Mirri unfriendly, but to me, her snarky remarks seem more... taunting, but in a friendly way (I also have the impression that she gets friendlier with your rapport increasing). She reminds my Dunmer main of his younger sister, so it fits.

Isobel seems a bit childlike sometimes which her cheerfulness about dogs and sweets, but she''s generally agreeable.

I don't care that much for Bastian and so far, Ember creeps me out a bit with her obvious joy about thievery and even murder.

Bastian is caring and sweet to you, and he also likes exploring and shopping. If that isn't perfection, I don't know what is.

And he has a girlfriend at home that he doesn't consider being his girlfriend (just looked it up: ""I don't have a romantic partner back home, but I know a girl who would get mad if she heard me say that." - or am I interpreting this wrong?). Which is weird as the rest of his lines seem to characterize him quite differently.

I don't have High Isle, so my experience with Ember and Isobel is a bit limited. But so far I personally (not my various characters, who has different opinions) likes Bastian the most. He's simply a kind and good person, without being naive, too serious or preachy.

As much as I have a tendency for pick-pick-stab and grabbing anything that isn't nailed down in games, that's game related and not something most of my characters do and least of all me personally. Stealing and murder is wrong m'kay?
I rather not spend time with a thief and murderer part of a death cult that sends people to the Void, or are fine with someone doing that.

He also likes books and cheesy jokes. That's a bonus to me.

Which is weird as the rest of his lines seem to characterize him quite differently.

I always read it as being that as he had a casual sort of fling going with someone back home and hadn't really been looking into anything serious. He's spent most of his adult life travelling around sorting out business for House Silvelle and chasing his foster brother Quistley across Tamriel - not much time to really get properly involved with someone and he doesn't seem to sort to resort to brothels to scratch an itch. Probably wants to leave that life as far behind him as possible and move on. Thats my theory anyway.

Most for Mirri just because she's sexy? Is that all it takes to be a "successful" companion?

Personally, I've found Mirri to be the most normal of the companions with the least offensive/stupid behavior.

Looks can help someone be successful in real life so it isn't really a surprise that it works in games where the characters only have limited dialogue lines to make them seem real.

If you look at polls for companions in other games looks are pretty clearly a significant factor.

Bastian was annoying. Getting the achievements for him and having to hear him complain about everything was rough for me. I hate his personality and comments.

Mirri was a pleasant follower, even though the random torchbug picking made her mad lol she’s sarcastic and great.

Ember is adorable, enthusiastic, I just got her and she’s my favorite. I have yet to play with Isobel yet though.

I parked Bastion in one of my houses because his comments are annoying, and he wont let me steal. I like Mirri as she was the easiest to level up Rapport. I am trying to unlock Isobel but the game is bugging on the final part of the Quest. I got Ember earlier, but have yet to play the game with her.

I've done all personal quests for the four companions and my choice remains with Mirri.
Mirri's a researcher who likes books and is awed by Clockwork City, traits that sit very well with me. Her acid sense of humor is a plus and, to be fair, I was never a fan of picking torchbugs, though I've become so annoyed by how those pests get in the way of my harvesting that I pick them out of spite these days.
Bastian likes books even more than Mirri and I thought his personal quests were quite touching. His sense of humor, on the other hand, isn't quite there, though he once utterly surprised me by telling a joke out of the blue (and it was a good one, too). I do like him, but he's not a good fit for my adventuring, which can take on a darker side.
Ember is enthusiastic and cheerful and her backstory's also touching. Her brightness, however, can get a bit tiresome and her disregard for books is a big no no with me.
Isobel puzzles me. Her quests showed her as an interesting person with a sense of humor, but those traits vanish almost entirely when she's following me. To her credit, she enjoys reading and is a fan of blacksmithing, the latter making us tank buddies.

I assumed something along those lines, though I also think it was quite OOC for him to be so flippant about someone. And I hadn't heard of Mitch Hedberg until today.

What I find frustrating is that these snippets of companion dialogue are designed to give us an idea of their personalities, but sometimes they come at the oddest times, and feel out of context or even inappropriate. This line is a perfect example. It would have been more appropriate as part of romance dialogue (Dragon Age's Cullen had something similar which started with you asking him if he had someone special in his life). Mirri's "I'm still here, thanks for asking" also often comes across as incredibly tone-deaf.

With Bastian and Mirri I sometimes get the feeling a lot of dialogue has been cut and shifted about. Maybe both had more flirty lines at one point but its been cut out to add back later, I don't know.

Bastian likes cheesy jokes, and Hedberg was one of the best at one-liners. So I think a nod to him makes sense in that respect.

Maybe it's also a cultural thing, but without knowing the reference that single line sounded like typical macho talk me (along the lines of "Ha, I fooled a woman, she believes we're in a relationship while it was never something serious for me") - and that was quite astonishing considering his usual talk (all that corny stuff about "love and magic" or "love and cheese" - or no, it wasn't cheese... ;) ).

[snip] Love her playful banter and her deep devotion to family. She really makes you feel like she's come to lean on you and trust you after you were there for her family and mom specifically. I also love her fiery side as well especially when you first meet her and she told that imperial guard to stuff it and watch her kill all the cultists between her and her baby brother. Reminds me of my big sister though hopefully she won't ever have to rescue me from deranged cultists trying to sacrifice me to Cthulu or something lol
