Overland HM/PvP

I was thinking about this idea of a new "HardMode Overland" instance and wanted to toss some ideas out there incase anyone else liked it and had suggestions. I'm not suggesting specifically because I think overland is too easy. There have been discussions about addressing that in the past and the argument against seems to be "if you want to play hard content, overland isn't the place". My intention with this is to create new content that isn't just HARD CORE! but a new experience that has the potential to build on neglected parts of the game. So, onto the idea.

HardMode/PvP Overland
  • All mobs are all much harder (gimme)
  • Only 1 wayshrine per zone; based in the capital city for that zone
  • PvP enabled outside the capital city (perhaps other smaller cities in the zone as well)
  • Dark Brotherhood dailies to assassinate players with new motifs
  • 'Bounty Boards' posted in the cities where players can can put out hits on other players; for a fee. There could be automatic hits the game puts out on players that spend too long outside the city or attack guards / citizens.
  • Double XP, Double resource nodes
  • Possibility for world bosses to drop Legendary quality items, but it scales off the number of people attacking

I really want some of the fringe game mechanics that have been neglected to be added back into the core of the game (Thieves Guild & pickpocketing, Dark Brotherhood PvP)

I also like the idea of this being sold as more of an RP instance as well. Feel free to add ideas that offer more RP integration! For instance, one idea I had was the ability to pickpocket unlocked items (or maybe just crafting bag items) from players, even in town! However, it allows the player being stolen from to now attack you and engage combat. If they do, town guards will also attack you as well. Beware going AFK!

This isn't gonna happen (I doubt ZOS wants a different instance of play), but I like ideacrafting and if there are suggestions, add them and let's see what we can come up with!

Sounds like fun for PVPers and a nightmare for PVEers. If you want PVE players to come over and enjoy PVP they need to have a good experience. Right now PVErs don't stand a chance against PVPers. They are dead in less than one global cooldown. That won't be a good experience for them.

How do you create a good experience for PVErs in the world of PVP?
    1. PvP enabled outside the capital city (perhaps other smaller cities in the zone as well)
    2. Dark Brotherhood dailies to assassinate players with new motifs
    3. 'Bounty Boards' posted in the cities where players can can put out hits on other players; for a fee. There could be automatic hits the game puts out on players that spend too long outside the city or attack guards / citizens.

This would just create griefers to plague the PVErs. Rewards aren't enough to incentivize PVErs to join in this.

To be fair, it usually takes 2 or 3. :D

To the OP. Sounds fun, but as you said, I doubt it gets much traction. Perhaps these are the types of things they could try in a place like IC, if trying to breath some life back into that place. It would also certainly have to be something you could opt in and out of. I have always like the idea of bounty contracts on specific players. It wouldnt even have to be someone calling out someone else. Maybe once your Kill streak hits 50, a warrant gets put out by the other factions, and players get rewards for stopping your streak.

Fair enough. I never really thought of this as catering to the true-PvE crowd since it has elements of PvP. I was thinking of it more as a sort of "dangerous" PvE where grouping with guildies and friends would be almost mandatory if you want to just quest or do world boss farming. This would not be a place for pure solo PvE builds, but I'm also not advocating for removing the current overland PvE. That certainly has it's importance as is for new player experience. Perhaps this would be an instanced Overland open to 500CP+?

I do agree that the incentive to be in this instance can not only be "play PvE in a PvP zone cause fun, right?". Can we think of other incentives other than some of the ones I suggested?

Oh, I have no real hope of this gaining traction, I just enjoy the idea-crafting and I have heard a smattering of these ideas in some shape/form over the last couple years. I would most certainly have this be an opt in system similar to Cyrodiil with perhaps some CP restriction?

I also like the idea of IC improvements as a lite way of incorporating more stuff and bounty contracts for kill streaks seems fun! Perhaps with players getting some indication of where that player is roughly.
