Would you play this game if add-ons didn't exist?

Console player, here. I don't need those training wheels. Pffft. I am just joking. They'd be nice to have and seeing some functionality make it here is nice

Technically my answer is something like:

I could not stand to heal or tank without Dressing Room. Just couldn't. So if my friends were still playing I would try to stick with it but probably transition to DPS until interest fizzled out completely (because, really, I love healing the most).

Props to console healers and tanks but I just couldn't do it.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

I don't play because of add-ons. They make certain things much easier but, I used to not use them because I didn't know about them. :p

It would seriously alter how I play the game, with some activities simply being cut out altogether.

I would give it a shot but I am unsure if I would stick with it.

That's a "no" for me. Of course it's possible to play ESO without addons, but I'm used to other MMOs having a high "quality of life" in comparison to naked-ESO. That gives me bad habits: I want my comfort. o:)

I can remember the 1stday I tried ESO: I was stunned by the - to my eyes - poor interfaces. It made me stop playing after 20 minutes (that and a few other issues). I discovered the addons on my 2nd try and I was soooooooooo glad... They are what made me continue to try ESO. Without them, would not be here now.

Console player here, what’s an add on? LOL!

Kidding of course but watching some raid videos I wonder how some people even see what’s going on in the game through so many layers of information on the screen. Pop ups for this, counters for that, warnings and messages going off every couple of seconds. Too much clutter for me. I get QoL stuff, wish we had it, some metrics would be OK as well to get an idea of where to improve, but count me out for all that other stuff.

Players use as many as they want to, for the information they want to see.

If they felt they were using too many, or the screen was too crowded, they would probably also feel the addons were a problem and decide to use fewer....

UI was and is one of the things with most issues for me here. Inability to conveniently sort things in the bag (I prefer them being in specific order so I can easily see huge groups of items simply by looking at the inventory rather then switching between tabs), health/mana/stamina bars, buffs and skills being dispositioned in a way that makes your eyes search all over the screen while in a fight when you should pay attention to what's going around your character, not in the UI. Inability to preview furniture, damn it! What I'm saying, original interface is anything but streamline.

I doubt I'd be interested in getting used to something this clunky after wow-effect from the first encounter with the game had been worn off.

I wouldn't care, though, about most of the cheesy things like harvest map if they didn't exist, but it's kinda of impossible to keep up with other players without those, especially when you don't have years of stockpiling resources and passively picking up skill points while exploring the content.

UPD: Oh, yeah, I forgot! Being unable to copy keybindings as well as other little settings like CHAT COLORS from one character to another in a game that heavily encourages you to have multiple characters is kind of dull, I certainly would have dropped the game as soon as I realized I have to do it every time I want to start a new toon.

I still play on Xbox now and then and have no problem with the lack of addons, though they do make basic tasks quicker on PC. For my Xbox accounts, I have complicated spreadsheets to keep track of which characters have learned which traits and, therefore, which items I can safely deconstruct. I’d love TraitBuddy to be incorporated into the base game.

There is only one addon I really do not want to do without and that's Dressing Room. But in a world where there were no addons I guess I could. All the others are nice to have and they do make my life easier, but I could and have played without them and even uninstalled quite a few of the "must haves" because I didn't like having them.

Add-ons are great and I would be lost without them. Then again I got along ok before I was even aware of add-ons. So without a doubt I would play ESO regardless and still be happy without add-ons, though maybe not quite as happy.

Nope. The lack of a minimap is the killer for me.

    ^^this^^

I have used so many addons for so many years that I don't even know anymore what comes from addons and what comes from the vanill agame, but the absence of the minimap alone would be enough of a killer for me.

Perhaps using add ons could be classed as cheating. It could take all the excitement of the game away, for example, the other day I found a new skyshard in an unexpected place. I remember when there were no level up rewards. Life was hard. ESO was a challenge. Add ons solve problems that we could solve ourselves.

I have used two for crafting and combat, but only just updated them after not using them for ages.

Mostly I prefer quality of life addons. For a long time I had none, didn't even know they existed. Then people began recommending some, like skyshards, but that one was one of the last I added, as I find it fun to read the clues to find them. I only started with addons after finishing Cadwell's gold.

Most my addons are lazyness so for me the game would definitely be playable without addons.

well like driving a car but refusing to use mirrors why because mirrors makes awareness and makes easier the life while driving so addons parts of a mmo game if a person defending RP and refuse to use i respect that but then again this is not single player game this is mmo if i wanted to be god of flies i will play single player game besides why should i hold in my mind every each single node location ?! ( these days who using resource for his items anyway) no need to make fuss over addons

there is more important issues in game u can find articles in forum like monster sets nerfs, CP points nerfs, seperating PvP and PvE like other games (with that way when u need an adjustment u avoid to broke PvE balance) etc etc

👀 stadia users be like not a problem

I have Stadia linked to my PC account so I can play it while in bed lol. I just mess with skills trades as the Stadia delay and lack of addons is too much to deal with. Also, if you want a 2nd account to run dungeons/party xp/dungeon reset, Stadia is a great choice as it doesn't tax system resources to run the 2nd account on same PC.

    Addons are cheating.

u can't categorized as " cheat " addons are adding more functionality to game and make your game play more efficient lately after returning to game i am seeing ppl who are rushing in dungeon skipping mobs if addons cheating so they are cheating as well :)

I can list on how essential actually addons are but I see some people don't even see the logic behind. Actually I was voicing this for a long time that it should be the developers who should give us in game applications that would work the same way the addons do but better.

Damage meter is one of them for example. I need to observe what the group does, yes you can use some damage meter in this game right now but the way it is now is inconsistent. Let me be clear about this, I am not using the damage meter addon for the sake of "oooh lookie I have don [snip] of damaageeeee", but rather how much damage I received, how much damage my team mate received in certain mechanics, how much heal has been done, or if any has been done (I have seen players who applied as healers in vet dungeon and didn't heal 1 bit and when I asked they said play with your own sustenance... so what is the point of role check then?) If taunt has been made and how many times it has been made. See such addons are not only for checking how much damage you have done, but rahter for you to check if people has done their job correctly or if they are STEALING your time! Because it really is! And to be honest I am sick about it and people should really act responsibly or they can go and do these dungeons solo if they are such OP players.

There are other addons which is some help on UI, well some people don't want such a thing maybe but I want it and I just use AUI for that matter for example. The Bars look better, I can tweak on them like for example I want to see full info on my bars but just percentage on boss and the aesthetic is way better than the ugly bars in ESO. If it were possible I would loved to see some mana stamina and life bars with Diablo look for example but [snip] or ZOS does not allow to do like that but AUI changes the look of your bars so I think thats not the problem.

there are some stuff where Addon becomes invaluable, so saying you can play without them is bs in my opinion. Expecially the gathering ones for example... how does someone expect me to memorize all the nodes in the game whereas I can mark the nodes with my addon and go farm them if needed? If you need some immersion that is another topic and anyone who wants to do it like that then I am all for it and I will not stand in their way NOT to use the specific addon for it.

Sooo in the end. If addon's have been removed from the game I will instantly loose my incentive to play this game because its a pain in the ass as it is and I would not spend another single dime on this anymore. I really had my issues buying Blackwood I have done it and with the nerfs etc I am totally annoyed by it and I regret that I have feeded ZOS for the bs they have done.
