Theory: Argonians are actually prehistoric birds (AKA dinosaurs)

Title basically, but just a dumb thing I was think about.

Everyone calls Argonians lizards, but are they really?

They have scales, sure, among some other obvious things (like hissing sometimes) but there's also one big thing that actually makes them NOT a reptile.

They grow feathers.

I know I know, the TES world isn't the real world, but hear me out. Some dinosaurs have feathers, it's up for debate on how many and which ones and yada yada yada, but they EVOLVED into birds which have even more feathers. Argonians of course have horns and scales and stuff, but they also literally have feather hair styles! And outside of game limitations, I am pretty sure I heard them also growing feathers on their tails.

So, IMO, this means it's very possible Argonians are more akin to dinosaurs, than reptiles.

Discuss!

(P.S: This is a dumb thread, I know, but you clicked it knowing what you're getting into so leave the toxic-ness at the door, yeah?)
Wishing for Lilmothiit race still! Or maybe Lilmothiit companion?

Argonians have a mix of various traits from various animals, including; Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish, and Birds.

    (Argonians can actually breathe underwater)

The hist give them all sorts of characteristics to give them an edge in adaptability.

Alternative theory: Birds are actually dinosaurs that survived the asteroid impact. Natural selection kicked in during the period after the dinosaurs started dying off, and selected smaller, mobile species.

Of course, my conclusion is: Argonians are birds, which are surviving dinosaurs from another time.

Nah, they came from tiny vermin that sucked sap from Hist trees, and the Hist trees went like Oh ya, you want to eat from me, I'll change you into my slaves, how about that!

Does this mean that it could be within possible lore to, say, have a T-Rex mount? Yes, I will forever have that child that loves T-Rex’s inside me.

Why do Argonian females have breasts?

    Because they are milk drinkers.

You can't apply logical biological expectations
to weirdo Elder Scrolls fantasy creatures in general. And Argonians in particular are freaks of nature even by TES standards. There is a book where an anatomist describes dissecting some Argonians to see what makes them tick and coming to the conclusion that they shouldn't even be alive.

The Hist is a god, like all the others that gave their power to make Nirn. As a God they originally had an elven like form, for whatever reason they like being a Tree. But they wanted a way to influence the world which is difficult as a tree so they up-jumped some lizards/(dinosaurs?) gave them elven like form and made them dependant on them via controlling their life cycle.

That is nothing unusual. Don't you know our lizard people from ancient Mesopotamia, they have breasts too. :D

Argonians are very mysterious, I like that!

My own argonians are like mini-dragons for me, for example  To be precise: first one is a pure mini-dragon, second one is relative to Daedric Titan (half-formed sibling of Iskra the Omen and Bogdan the Nightflame), and third one is sibling to my second one. And Titans were created by Molag Bal to resemble dragons... So in the end, all my argonians feel like dragons :D

This universe doesn't possess dinosaurs and the aggressiveness with which some people tries to shoehorn any fantasy universe into the timeline and progress of our own never cease to amaze nor annoy me. Can people just accept that sometimes we're faced with something truly other and alien than what we're used to? Or do people lack that much imagination?

    Everything is possible.

In lore, some theories suggest that Hist somehow created Argonians (like some kind of bioengineering or something). But it is only a theory and there is no solid proof of that. We know that Argonians have some kind of connection with the Hist itself and they can communicate with it. But it only happens in tribal societies and not every tribe member actually can communicate - only some choses ones. Also, in lore there are some examples of non - Argonians being able to communicate with the hist after ingesting hist sap - and it was not a deadly poison to them.

In other parts of the Tamriel (like we can see in TES IV or V) Argonians live far away from Black Marsh and they do not communicate with Hist Trees - meaning that they are fully independent from it.

That what is so great about TES lore - that nothing is known fro sure. There is no clear answer if Hist indeed created Argonians, or Argonians were simply a local intelligent & sentient inhabitants that only existed in Black Marsh and Hist simply stumbled upon them.

There are also Non-Daedric creatures with a dinosaur-like appearance. Sotha-Sil used a species on Nirn for one of his creations in the Clockwork City. He made specific modifications to this one that he thought made it an improvement over it's full biological counterpart - like the guarded neck and a more flexible tail with blades

Remember - we have not been everywhere in Tamriel or even Nirn, who knows what other kinds of creatures are out there!

I have a feeling that these fellows are based on a creature from Akavir or Pyandonea. Akavir seems like a safe assumption but I actually find myself thinking more towards Pyandonea. We already know that there is a large reptilian presence here with serpents. I could easily sea (sea, get it?) a species of bipedal reptilian there too. I mean Guar already exist, so I wouldn't call it a stretch by any means.

Little bit off topic here...but one thing I love about murkmire is that they show you a different type of argonian the naga. That the hist changed them into what it preferred to keep it safe. Hope we get more of this!! Would love to have more different types that take on different Lizzard appearances or more bird like ones. Think somewhere in the lore there was even some flying ones?

Also murkmire showed the different hists as well, different shapes showed the personality of the hist and the reflection in its surrounding tribe.

    More of this please!!!

Would be hilarious if there was a flirty hist that all the argonians are just tarts! Points the male argonian in the rift theives den. Lol or a hist that just loves jokes, do all the argonians are just telling dad jokes all the time. Would be lol.

I just don't like animal/beast races in any game. Argonians are just some swamp lizards that licked Hist Trees and evolved and became slaves of the Hist. Those trees are a hive-mind from another plane of reality and should be eradicated as they are an invasive species that will devour everything if you let them.

There are many theories. In link below I've attached a link to one of more interesting.

But one is sure: Nirn is not Earth, so there could be that it has no evolution, as it was replaced by "magic".

On the other hand, as Boethia said about origin of Orsimers (regarding all these eating Trinimac stuff): We cannot take those stories literally ;)
