Imagine thinking ps5 will somehow push graphics to next level.
Meanwhile PC users are already laughing at next gen console's specs

The new SSD/data handling system on the PS5 is super-duper-awesome compared to SSDs on PCs. Because the entire system was built around it (rather than everything plugging in to long-time PC motherboard standards). At least according to a couple PC techheads I've talked to.

(in general, consoles can do more with less, because they don't have to be a catch-all modular standard system like the PC plug-n-play thing. PC's can be upgraded & tricked out more easily, due to those modular standards, though.)

Personally, I own both, and don't see the need for the whole partisan-platform-fighting thing. /shrug

You do realize that according to the engineers that are designing the PS5 that only the Top 100 games they have listed internally will be backwards compatible at launch? There is no guarantee eso will be in that top 100 Sony is focused on.

I'd assume ZOS has some changes to make to the game to make it run on the new system as hardware isn't the issue, Sony will have made API and software changes that don't make it a simple 1-1 port.

    https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ps5-backwards-compatibility-ps4-compatible-playstation-6300

    https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ps5-backwards-compatibility-ps4-compatible-playstation-6300

Sony is "hoping" more games will be compatible buy thats assuming they followed Sonys best practices guidelines for designing games. You are NOT required to follow those guidelines to get your game approved. Thosr guidelines are there to ensure compatibility with future API changes but devs are able to do what they want as long as it passes certification and don't crash the console.

I'd say ESO will probably be mostly functional.witjin 30 days of ps5 launch, but I'd figure on more significant bugs for awhile due to under the hood changes

Furthermore, let's be real. ESO isn't their focus for next-gen, never was. ZOS has been working on a new game for next-gen, and TES6 was always The Elder Scrolls focus for next gen

PS4/xbox one will be a supported platform for another 4 years so ESO will still be here to play. So you have nothing to worry about.

PS5 Hardware is roughly equal to 1000$ PC.

And believe me the difference in ESO performance between 1000$ PC and 5000$ PC is no more than 10% :)

I don't mean to criticize anyone's rig, but 1000 for a PC is not much to spend. My graphics card cost more than that. And no idea why I should take your word on it. I have seen this game played on both 1k and 5k PCs. The difference is staggering.

Comment I saw on another blog, under a "What we know about the PS5 so far" article:
How is this FUD still being passed off as fact? Particularly by a major outlet? Sony has clarified time and again that those 100 games are what they targeted as a sampling, but that the lion’s share of PlayStation 4 games will be playable via standard BC. With certain games - likely pulled from hose same 100 - targeted for specific enhancements.

Hell, Jim Ryan was just discussing it in an interview with CNET yesterday.

A quick trip to the PlayStation Blog would’ve sorted things right out, too:

"UPDATE: A quick update on backward compatibility – With all of the amazing games in PS4’s catalog, we’ve devoted significant efforts to enable our fans to play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.

We’re expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions. We’re currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers.

In his presentation, Mark Cerny provided a snapshot into the Top 100 most-played PS4 titles, demonstrating how well our backward compatibility efforts are going. We have already tested hundreds of titles and are preparing to test thousands more as we move toward launch. We will provide updates on backward compatibility, along with much more PS5 news, in the months ahead. Stay tuned!"

Why are console players always the first to be obsessed about graphics when they're using a machine that is meant to be affordable upfront as appose to a 2-3k + PC setup. Someone needs a reality check. The game is very popular on PC, it doesn't need consoles to survive.

This is also an MMO, it's simply not possible for an older mmo like this to look anything like a new single player Horizon game.

I won't deny they could make some improvements to console version of the game with new generation of consoles able to do more work, but comparing an MMO to a single player game is disingenuous at best. Graphics will always be a bit behind on an MMO because they are doing different work than just graphics.

I also wonder about your screen shot examples: one picked from a trailer, the other picked from a screen shot that isnt' even a great one of the game as it exists (gama balancing looks bad for one thing).

Wait, why play on a console when PC is a thing?

Not everyone has the money to invest 2-3k in a good rig, in the long run, console ends up being close to the same cost imo. In Canada, PS plus is like 80$ a year alone. The free games are nice I suppose, but the Epic store has been doing that for free now. I play on PC, but it took me a few years before I jumped into it.

I still love consoles for the exclusives, mainly story driven content, 3rd person action games, party games and platformers. I would never bother with a shooter ever again, mouse and keyboard is vastly superior, but games like ESO can easily be played with controllers.

Consoles will always have a soft spot for me, Mario, Spyro, Crash, Uncharted, God of War, Horizon, etc. Xbox imo has shot themselves in the foot by allowing games on PC, consumer friendly sure, but why would I ever need an xbox? I feel compelled to get a PS5, even though I spend 95% of my time on PC now.

Please add cross-play between console and PC while you're at it.

I expect the game to look like the Demon's Souls or Horizon Forbidden West trailers that were revealed. PS5 is fully capable of photorealism. The gameplay of the remastered ESO should look like the cinematic trailers it currently has.

The existing graphics of this 7(!) year old game (released 2014) are heavily showing their age - very washed out, low poly, and zones like Auridon are very low detail and bland. The graphics in the latest WoW expacs already beat ESO by miles (look at how dense the Kul Tiras capital is). Without a graphics remaster, new players won't be attracted to this game and it will die in a few months.

    This:
    demons-souls-ps5-screenshots-1.original.jpg

    vs
    This:
    auridon-2.jpg

    1. PS5 screenshots are probably bullshots like always.
    2. You can't expect a mmorpg to have same graphics as a SP game as there's much more calculations.
    3. [snip]

The game doesn't die because PS doesn't get special treatment. If you are lucky you'll get pc graphics if PS5 is capable of running it that way.

Wait, why play on a console when PC is a thing?

Because you already have the console for other games (like platform exclusives) or reasons (entertainment center).

Because you don't want to have to deal with all the drivers, updates, crashes, etc... that managing a gaming PC involves.

Because the PC you have access to is an office or family machine, not a gaming rig.

Because you want to game on your couch, and your PC is stuck in your home office or room.

All sorts of reasons. Which are the same reasons that have existed for the last decades, during which both consoles & PCs existed.

I haven't ever bothered with console for several reasons. First, I've been into computers since 1984. Having to buy a second platform for some things.... well, if those things (games) had been anything I wanted to play, I'd have bought that platform. However, none of the games on console ever appealed to me, so I'm going to waste that money why?

I'm not a "gamer" - as in I don't play stuff that has no visceral appeal to me. I have a specific set of requirements for a game to "click" with me. TES.... yep. Anything on consoles? No. Not at all my sort of fun. WoW and RIFT - yes, for a while each. But when they quit being fun, I left and never looked back. TES is my go to franchise since Arena in 1994.

Since I got my first PC in 1985, I've had some really great gaming experiences, beginning with Stonegate, then going on to the SSI Gold Box Games. But my whole love of computer games is pretty much bound up in TES. I have a really good PC rig, and that allows me to not only run my business (website design and management - though I've cut back in the last few years as I simply don't want to have to "go back to school" with all the new stuff not to mention that my client base has attrition due to age and other issues) but also play this game at ultra without issues (because I don't bother with pvp - UGH - and endgame pve - also ugh).

I really don't care about gaming on consoles. Unless that affects my particular enjoyment of a particular game. When that happens.... I'll be gone, and so will my money. Not that anyone will care, and that's fine.

    1. Performance is key. If that's sorted, then...
    2. it's not like the game would need to be remade. Higher quality graphics assets are already present for PC and just need to be brought to console if... IF ESO is actually ready for delivery on PS5 at all which no one other than ZOS can confirm. I think things are being over-complicated by PC gamers in this console thread (despite it being a bit aggressively titled).
    3. Maybe it's not the best graphics settings the next gen consoles can deliver. But something in between might be possible and if it is why not.

The better the game looks, the happier the players will be (as long as no performance is sacrificed for visuals) and the better even the console streams and youtube videos will look (= free marketing material). That's a win for everyone. The fight in this thread serves nobody if you blend out the provocative "die or survive" tone the OP has put in it.

I built a $2k rig well before the PS4 came out. I am still using my i7 2600k and motherboard. I did add some memory. I added larger SSD, but I had to also spend to get an SSD on my PS4 (because it is a horrible experience with an HDD). I also swapped out my video card, which costs about as much as a new console at launch. I get games far cheaper and a ton of game free. I find it funny on r/PS4deals when people get excited about a deal on a game most of us got free from Epic or somewhere else. There is no need for a sub for online play (which I don't need on the PS4 Pro I got on Black Friday because I just use it for single player PS exclusives.)

I don't know what my total cost of ownership had been. PS4 exclusives are also quite cheap if you grab years after release. But PC hardware lasts so long. Plus, I can't play my old PS3 games (except for Journey, which automatically gave me access to PS4 version when it was remastered). I can play my old Steam games.

Most likely no. And if it ever did, the graphics wouldn't improve much more. The game doesn't have "bad" graphics as of now because of hardware limitation. It's an engine problem. PCs have been on the cutting edge of graphics and still we don't get special treatment (this game is a rare console port pc-consoles).

While I agree that graphical improvement would be nice, ZOS most likely won't do it. And if it is released in PS5 and XBOXX?X?X (wtf microsoft), I don't forsee crossplay. Maybe cross save and expansion share, but no cross play.

Also, i'm looking at the footage of Kul Tiras and the graphics look pretty much the same as every other expansion.

Hot garbage. Stylized, sure..but still ugly. Way uglier than ESO.

As this photo demonstrates..ESO is not ugly.

um... what? you really think wow's graphics are "hot garbage"??

like I get hating on wow for the gameplay, terrible story, stupid systems, RNG and the many other issues it has... but wow legit has one of the best art teams in the business. Blizzard's art team are using a 15+ year old engine and doing really great stuff with it

BFA and legion have some really great art and visuals. Look into BFA's zone than just kul tiras such as drustvar, Stormsong valley, Voldun.

here's some videos of upcoming shadowlands expansion:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn4u68OH0OE

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7N96o6huSM

stylised? yes indeed but that's literally the look of wow. I don't understand how you can call this "hot garbage"

you might not like the stylised art and that's fine cause it's subjective, but wow does not have "hot garbage" graphics.

No need to remaster it just optimized it to take advantage of the newer more powerful hardware. They have done this before and it worked just fine.
