People generally don't play MMOs because they want the best graphics imaginable. That's what single player games are for.

WoW kind of says it all. It's ugly as hell and it doesn't matter. ESO is nowhere near that bad. But yeah, sure, it'll be dead in a couple months. People haven't been saying that since launch or anything.

Yeah, any successful game MUST have next-gen graphics. That explains the failure of MineCraft, which never achieved any recognition nor high player numbers... oh wait...

And yeah, 2020-2014=7 (SEVEN !!! emphasized with an exclamation mark) years. Sure.

And yes, ESO will die. For a gazillion reasons that have ALL been mentioned over and over and over by gazillions of forumers for.. well, SIX, not seven years.

Care to explain what's so different between your first and your second screenshot ? Genuinely interested.

Everyone says this game will die but if you look at it your comparing a sandbox game with a mmo that has more years to go by, yes nerfs has left a huge impact on there, its still playable. With how hard some of there achievements are in this game some of these players will still hunt for them, there devs have worked hard and put content on the table and have rewarded us with events that include crown store costumes and mounts. Yes there player base has downsized they can still release free updates and could put crossplay into game, ps5 players playing with ps4 and xbox one x playing with xbox one players and could include pc with some adjustments.

Genuine curioisity here. Can you link me a vid with an example of those amazing WoW graphics? I tried to look it up myself but all I could find was some 8-year-old-kids-cartoon-like vids, which is surely not this amazing photorealistic graphics you're talking about.

You know we will probably end up getting ps4/ps5 ans xone/xsx to play together on their respective server for a few year until they cut old console suport
For exemple both ff14 and dcuo got ps3 player to play on the exact same server as ps4 player. Ps3 support for both games was droped in 2018

Your eso account is tied to your psn/xlive account.
Wich will remain the same nomsther the generaton(exept of you make a new one)
Kind of like if i go to a friend house and log in my psn account on his ps4 i get to play eso on my accout

Agreed, anyone who believes that eso on PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X is going to be on new servers, separate from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, are mistaken.

The new consoles are going to have a very seamless transition, more so than any console generation in history. In fact, I do not believe that any games playable on current consoles and the Next Generation consoles will split thier player bases between generations.

Sony said that any game that receive updates after July on PS4 needs to be compatible with the PS5 and they will have backwards compatibility like the Xbox 1x currently does Sony said that it would be the top 100 ps4 games in the beginning so what will more than likely happen is that the game will be the same on the ps5 as it is with the PS4 so it doesn’t destroy the player base on either side which would happen especially on release when consoles are in limited supply for the holiday season

if you want to play a mmo with next gen graphics you can go and play black desert online...i hear its really successful :-)

I am all for getting more graphic options to console players of course but honestly, just uprading to 4k which im sure will be possible on the new consoles makes a huuuuge difference

As a console player... I don't want crossplay. We don't need crossplay, the community on both PS4 servers is large enough. I'm not bothered by the graphics, the performance is a much more pressing issue.

Please add cross-play between console and PC while you're at it.

I expect the game to look like the Demon's Souls or Horizon Forbidden West trailers that were revealed. PS5 is fully capable of photorealism. The gameplay of the remastered ESO should look like the cinematic trailers it currently has.

The existing graphics of this 7(!) year old game (released 2014) are heavily showing their age - very washed out, low poly, and zones like Auridon are very low detail and bland. The graphics in the latest WoW expacs already beat ESO by miles (look at how dense the Kul Tiras capital is). Without a graphics remaster, new players won't be attracted to this game and it will die in a few months.

    This:

    vs
    This:
    auridon-2.jpg

Graphics mean nothing, the success of a game is keeping a player base and decent performance.
Everquest since 1999 i rest my case.

    Be Safe

And while Runescape has "only" been around since 2001 I'd say it has considerably worse graphics than Everquest, yet somehow that one is still around and going strong too.

I love graphics just as much as the next guy..but get real.

People have been saying this game is dying since the day it was released. But every single year, the population goes up.

WoW is a Riches to Rags story. ESO is a Rags to Riches story.

    Riches to rags lol??

WoW makes far more money than ESO and is by far well more popular. Just look at the twitch numbers on a daily bases. ESO is lucky to hit 10k viewers in a day where wow hits about 100k. Are you honestly trying to tell me that Zenimax is financially better off than Blizzard Entertainment?

A game does not need "state of the art" graphics to be good and this millennial thinking must stop.

I would choose ESO with it's decent graphics than any a mediocre MMORPG with super-cool, eye candy graphics.

There are 10-15-20 year old games with outdated graphics that are actually way better than any modern game. Gameplay ALWAYS beats visuals.

If I were to hazard a guess what they meant wasn't that WoW doesn't objectively earn more money than ESO does but rather that it has severely diminished both in size and earning since its beginning, where ESO have gone really only one way, up. Especially in the last couple of years.
Though WoW will get a complete overhaul of levelling and game play later in the year with Shadowlands, making it a far better and more welcoming experience for new players so we'll see how that affects thinggs.

In my opinion WoW still has a strong community because they invested heavily in server infrastructure when they were making a lot of money. It has allowed them to move into Esports which as far as I know is the first in the genre to do that.

but even that wouldn't be correct.
remember the millions of players at launch and how fast almost all of them left the game?
eso did go downhill very fast until tamriel unlimited, which basically saved the game.
they even had to change the payment model.
they never reached the same numbers of paying and playing customers, they had on release, again.

Yeah it has diminished in size but it’s 15 years old. When will ESO begin to decline. I can’t see the player base being even close to what WoW is now after 15 years.

Graphics take second place to a good story and game play.

I still have my original copy of The complete Ultima VII. The black gate, Forge of virtue, Serpent Isle and The Silver seed.
might not look pretty to some folk but they were a lot of fun to play all the same.

Mos Dos 5.0 or higher, intel 386, 4MB ram.. :p oh and i still have the Diablo Battle Chest too .

I usually say gameplay over graphics. For the people who say that, I am curious. Can you play Arena, Daggerfall? How about Morrowind or Oblivion unmodded. Just curious, since a lot of people say they can't play those games because of the graphics.

I can but I've been being following the Elder Scrolls universe since the start. Might not draw many new players in if they went as far as going back to Oblivion graphics though :D

Updating the graphics in an MMO isn't easy, because while many people do update their PCs regularly by buying new ones or installing upgrades themselves, not everyone does. When you update the graphics you often also update the minimum system requirements, which can result in a lot of your players not being able to play anymore.

I guarantee if ZOS announced they were remastering ESO graphics, here are the new min requirements, we'd see a LOT of threads on the forums from people running the game on potatoes crying that they won't be able to play after the change.

True, it wouldn't be a huge number, and true other games (WOW for example) have gone ahead with this anyway. Because at some point you really just need to. But ESO is young compared to the others, and it took WOW over a decade to even update character models. (I think they did it in 2014??) So while ZOS may update the graphics eventually... I wouldn't expect it before another 3-4 years, if they decide to do it at all.
