~~~ Magicka Templar Gameplay with Horrible Internet ~~~
G'day Everyone,
Welcome to some commented gameplay on my LagPlar Magicka Templar. The original ethos of this build was to make myself as immune to lag as possible, but since the introduction of the "performance pack" and the massively increased player population, it's scope has rapidly expanded to also include making myself bug and performance proof. You can see the LagPlar in fine form in the videos below, with full gameplay commentary in which I hope to impart some tactical advice on how to-
1) Play Magicka Templar
2) Play outnumbered
3) Play with objectively bad performance
If you are only keen for only one video I'd recommend
Part 2: Imperial City. It has the best mix of 1vX, 2vX, 3vX, where the X is small in number but good skill level, and large group but average skill level.
Build Version 3.0 (under construction)
Unfortunately the Destructive Reach nerf meant being a purely ranged MagPlar was no longer an option (range being one of the easiest ways to compensate for bad lag), so even though we have now be shoehorned into MeleePlar, it's an exciting new direction to take this build. I don't have any huge revelations for this build (which is why these are commented gameplay videos rather than a build video), but essentially we've made ourselves tanky enough to survive-
• Lag causing us to still get hit by high damage / Crowd Control attacks that we clearly blocked or dodged on our screen
• Lag causing Line of Sight to simply fail because the player positioning on our screen is wrong
• Lag causing us to get hit with abilities well outside a reasonable range
• Block locking us out of abilities for 1-2 seconds (great new feature,
it)
To achieve the above
• 5x
Mark of the Pariah
• 5x
Robes of Transmutation (back bar)
• 2x
Willpower (front bar)
• Monster Helm Set = flex
The first question I always get asked is
how does a build with 2x 5pc defensive sets still close out kills? We do take advantage of Infused Spell Harm Glyphs on our Jewelry, but the main answer is having a disciplined offensive rotation. There is an argument to be made to drop staple Templar skills like Purifying Light and Radiant Destruction on high damage builds in order to slot additional utility skills, but the LagPlar very much plays Templar as designed-
1) Purifying Light so it starts copying damage (Purifying Light scores 50% of our executes)
2) Reflective Light for a small DoT, Major Prophecy and Snares opponent (which helps reduce the effect of lag)
3) Toppling Charge for Stun and Gap Closer
4) Puncturing Sweeps for spammable (pretty much only use post stun, otherwise lag will cause many misses)
5) Radiant Destruction to execute, Purifying Light usually pops half way through channel which combines for a potent burst damage + execute damage combination
I'll freely admit this build is nothing particularly special, but for my unique circumstances (which is becoming less unique every patch) it works superbly to compensate for bad performance, bugs, and lag. I hope I've been able to assist anyone else out there struggling with my same issues, and even if you are not MagPlar, maybe I've given you some ideas for overcoming your own challenges.
Peace,
Tay
