Shield of Senchal Motif - Is There A Cooldown On Drops?

Half way through my characters on day four and nothing so far again.

Edit: maybe the goal is to convince us it would be more productive to play the game less and get an extra PT job and just buy it with crowns. Because at this point I'd have made more real world money in a job than I need to buy it from the crown store and it would have been more fun working.

Yeah, it could just be awful drop rates when on a timer but still possible. It is odd that I got 2 over 2 days on just 1 character when greater than 24 hours. And none on 3 characters when less than 24 hours. I also wonder if doing a quest or opening a box on a character resets the timer after you log out whether you get a motif or not. Am going to wait more than 24 hours since I tried last.

There may be something to the idea that doing the quests first resets something- regardless of whether I have boxes saved, I always do the quests first then begin opening them. I've pulled a motif after 4-5 or less boxes on the same character every day doing this, and have consistently gotten motifs with a less than 24 hour gap (but greater than 10 hours)

I'm getting a lot of repeats though. 1 Chest, 2 Daggers, and 2 Bows.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. I've done 4 days worth of dailies on 2 characters, and even managed to get a few extras in.

Still not a single page at all.

It feels like these have a drop rate like the Outlaw style, but at least that wasn't confined to one-a-day.

Ok after waiting 24 hours since doing the quests, my first character got nothing. Second character got a motif. So waiting 24 hours since the last try appears to have helped, but who knows? It still could just be the rng.

I am at 0 motifs in 8 boxes (3 different days).

ZoS definitely needs to communicate any limitations on drops and specify per character or per account. Frustrating your player base is NOT the way to go.

This also counts for if the Dragonguard Supply Chest is supposed to be a once per day per account reward of if it is bugged. (personally I think if you drag more than one character through 30 DG quests and the story quests needed to access them you should def get to open it per character)

I just broke down and bought them from guild traders. The hell with going through this RNG crap.

I read somewhere you get one for every 30 dailies you do. So do from 1-30 somewhere you get one. Then it resets after you do 30. if thats a fact count me out.

Yep. Sounds about right. I've been doing 16 quests every day and I've never gotten more than one motif in a day. There are some days I haven't even seen one motif.

I don't think so. I have been doing between 2 and 10 each day and have got one once per day. The first day it was in my 1st box. I did open about 6 more after that as it was before I knew about the cool down situation. The second day it was in my 2nd box. Then the 5th box. Then again in the 2nd. I have been only opening until I get a motif and saving the rest. It really looks like it's one per day per account.

I long decided I wasn't going to farm for motifs that have obscenely low drop rates, nor am I going to pay ridiculous CS prices to get them. I either get motifs I'm missing by a) buying them from guild traders once they come down in price, b) use gold to 'buy' certain motifs like Sunspire from others with the Crowns to spare, or c) wait for the Jubilee every year and take part in it every day on as many characters as I currently have. The last option is typically the slowest, but it also generally gives me a lot of the more expensive/rarer chapters to motifs I don't have for free. And the ones that don't drop before the end of the event, I can usually afford fairly easily, as motif prices tend to tank during the Jubilee.

It's kind of sad that it seems these really low drop rates and potential limits on drops seem to be a means of pushing more people towards buying the motifs in the CS. Kind of feels like Welkynar all over again, but at least no other motif has had a more ridiculous grind to obtain than that one has.

Only doing one char a day (2 boxes) and completed 6 days so far. 4 motifs (3 belt...) and all were in the first box opened.

I've done 2 dailies on 2 characters for... 3 days now? Have had 2 motifs drop. No pattern to it, other than the pure coincidence of getting both of them to drop on bad-turned-good cat.

You can usually obtain random motifs during the anniversary event? I hope that they keep it that way. I just started playing last june and motif collecting is my thing in the game right now

Just to double check, those of you that have bad RNG with Southern Elsweyr motives, did you actually complete the zone? I've noticed I'm getting a lot more drops on EU, where I've done all the zone achievements, than on NA, where I'm halfway through the quests.

I've gotten 4 motifs in 8 days, if I'm not mistaken, since it came out. Doing both dailies on 2 characters, one has cleared every quest and achievement in the zone, the other has finished the main quest.

This is an interesting theory, but the character I've been doing them on that has received one Shield of Senchal motif every single day is level 30 and has not done anything except these quests and world bosses in southern elsweyr. So I'm not sure if that's a contributing factor or not. But the RNG on these seems pretty strange, and I honestly wish they would tell us exactly what the drop rate is, because it feels wildly inconsistent between players and accounts. (Meanwhile, my character who has completed nearly everything continues to never receive any Dragon Guard motifs ever XD)

Yup, the Jubilee boxes are given for every repeatable quest you do on a character, up to 50 per day per character iirc. A lot of people like myself will therefore do the daily crafting writs on their entire roster every day. It's seven boxes per character (six if you don't have Summerset for Jewelry Crafting) and I currently have 16 characters. Gives me a bunch of boxes a day and a whole bunch of motif chapters too. Some motifs aren't available this way though, including Soul-Shriven, CS exclusives like Frostcaster, and certain ones like Militant Ordinator.

I know for Morrowind at least, if you do the main quest it increases the likelihood of getting one of the motifs (icr which one) from dailies and chests. Maybe it's something similar for Shields of Senchal?

It might be? Though if it is, it's really odd that my character that hasn't done any quests but dalies there is consistently pulling the motifs. The rng is really strange on this one.

"I still have luck - after 8 days I have 7 (diffrent - no doubles!) - they always in 2-4 chest so really quick. Only one day I did 12 quests with no luck and I give up.

I suck at mathematics but I would really like to see the chances of sth like that happening. If I am not mistaken, the calculation is like 1/10 (if its 10% drop rate chance) x 1/10 x 1/10 x 1/10... (92 times total) and for every 1/10, another 1/12 to drop the same page... Must be an number of astronomic proportions.

I mean, there is no way the algorithm is random. More like a 5% drop rate and after that, a 50% to get same page...

Once I get one, I don’t try again for 24 hours. Get one per day this way. The longest day took 12 boxes, across 6 characters. About 80% of the time it’s four boxes or less on the two characters that have completed the main quest.
