Did the download start with Patching the Launcher first?

Was thinking of doing a fresh install and wondering if the Account Download is already the newest Launcher (if updated with 25). Would think it would be?

At 16% the first download is complete and it starts applying the patch then - with about 33MB/s measured against the whole download size. i guess this will not be the last download to do - there might be other patches to download and apply.

It frees HDD space whilst applying the patch so I guess i will be good with my limited HDD space left.

The launcher started immediately with the download by itself and didn't restart yet - but I am still in the phase of the first application of the patch.

No. The launcher was not patched. Just the game, itself.

I left my PC on and the patcher up. It did the download but I got an error that the game was invalid and the patcher prompted me to run the repair but the repair could not fix it. So I am reinstalling the game like I planed anyways. The download is no where close to download cap. I get speeds at 300 MB/s + all the time. ESO speeds right now are bouncing between 2 MB/s to 50 MB/s. Very inconsistent. I would suggest a fresh install as any time a footprint of program changes this much, its the best option.

Well, ZOS said in their article we have to do nothing but wait until the launcher has done it's work and the servers being up again. i trust in that - if I'll get an invalid client error I just wait and see what it does when the servers are up again.

    That's nothing - I'm at 3%.

I'm British and we are the people who get told; "first world problems" if we ever dare to complain.

Doesn't feel like the first world, in many ways, I can assure you...

I believe having to wait a few hours, or even a day, to download a game is pretty much the epitome of first world problems. :D

Two hours to complete and at the end I had 15GB freed up on the drive. In a few hours I'll see if the performance improvements are as successful as the patching seems to have been. :)

Did they put up an extra message explaining the 'large' download to those who maybe didn't follow?
I mean I knew about it, but looking on the forum you don't see a header with the 'larger' info ^^

There is an article about it and it is mentioned in the news section of the launcher - if people don't read it, they can't be helped.

    Y'all are so spoiled.
I'll have you know that 16.000 kbps is bloody fast where I'm from!

    Which is the past, apparently.

Somewhat yes - just about enough to watch a streamed HD movie if you don't do anything else at the same time.

Just to be clear, I'm not mocking you - but imagine having to dlownload a game like RDR2 with 140GB download with it - it is the past.

Okay started fresh install, looks like there was a pause for Updating Launcher but I couldn't get a screen shot quick enough.

Pushing to a 2TB SSD but it is only SATA, and not NVME...soon soon new build.

Holding ~13MB so far on a 100MB Cable ISP, West Texas.

Yup. But something in the header would have been nice too (quick glance info).

It was mentioned at the Greymoor announcement livestream, has been mentioned in interviews since then, had a news post back on the 13th, and has been linked in twitter messages a few times.

I don't know about other social media places it has been mentioned, but I am someone who often complains about poor communication from game developers and I think ESO did a pretty good job on this one.

I did not see an email on it, so if one did not go out that is maybe something else they could have done to inform people, but in general there have been a good number of messages in various places about the redownload of the game client.

I just left the launcher running last night when I went to bed and it appears to have patched while I was sleeping...at least the install looks to be around 20gb smaller.

It won't let you start the patch if you don't have the free space for it. I had to scramble to move some files to a thumb drive to free up space so it would start. Cool move on ZOS's part to check first!
