It’s their lazy way of saying it is hidden behind a PayWall...which well is Always the case with new additions

And Paywalling severely stronger gear/abilities in order to get people to buy expacs to stay competitive (usually while nerfing the power of base-game gear/abilities), is just as predatory as directly selling overpowered gear

I think PvPers will whine they are over-performing, get ZoS to nerf them, and ruin an interesting addition to the game.

Definitely. That’s the PvForums part of the game, as soon as something’s interesting and not about max stats people get upset.

I’m hoping they add a mythic 1H weapon that makes your light attacks ranged and scale from spell power and mag. Then have it look like a book you put in your off hand.

Easiest way to add 1H and Rune to the game.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

I love how noones discussing the fact that in order to have mythica you'll have to give up either a 5 set bonus, monster set bonus or arena weapon set bonus.

Another useless gear system lol. Unless... They actually make them insanely stronger to compensate.

I wouldn't say they are useless until we know what they actually do. The one item they talked about in the stream increases your movement speed and they saw it as a QoL improvement for folks who are gathering. This gives me the impression they aren't limited to strictly to combat which but will have wider or different uses.

I'm curious if it'll be in its own slot or part of the already existing slots.

I don't like how you will get it. I think its a hand holding way of allowing everyone "be a winner" top lvl gear should be skill challenge. not this grind fest mini thing to get it. it could be a great addition to the game but not for high end gear

At first I thought it was a separate slot for mythic items, but as Rich refered to one example as a "heavy chest", it seems it will occupy one of the existing slots.

I can see that no one in this thread watched the stream, or they simpky didn't pay attention when they were talking about this topic. Yet most insist on applying a combination of thermo- and aerodynamics regardless.

From what the devs said, I highly doubt it's gonna offer anything close to top-end gear. It definitely won't offer trial gear, and probably won't offer dungeon gear either. Devs didn't elaborate on much but it sounded like mythic sets will be generic 1-piece Armor or Jewelry 'sets' like the Prophet pieces albeit with a more interesting bonus.

Personally I'm hoping mythic bonus is something that will augment existing non-dungeon/trial gear since you can only equip 1 mythic at any time. Something that will make me want to use at least a few of the hundreds of useless overland, inventory-fodder sets. I want mythics to give us more build depth across characters than what we have to do now, which is using same sets across all stam characters, use same sets across magicka characters. I hope to see some class-specific or skill-line-specific bonus effects in there. We desperately need build diversity and new ways to change up combat.

The way I interpreted what the developers were saying is these are intended to be niche pieces that provide some unique ways of handling certain situations. It also sounded like they are not intended to be restricted to only combat but in some cases usable for non-combat game play. So no, I don't think they are intended to replace high end gear but instead provide a fun alternative for specific situations.

So what do people think of the mythic gear idea?
I think it would be great, adding new combat styles. But, it might be really grindy to get the item you want.
It depends on how you obtain them.
But I think they will be like arena weapons, ( and armour ) but they will have to be careful to not make them op. I’m waiting to see how strong they are.

Here's to hoping they truly go all out on these effects. If I can get something that raises skeletons, that would be very sick. Or something that changes how certain skills work.

Hard to call them useless if they are worth using., It would also be pretty dumb for them to add this if it was not worth using. It is smart for Zos to add items to keep our interest. I sense salt in the air.

Man, the amount of preemptive negativity in this thread is crazed!

I'm all for calling out bad decisions but let's at least reserve judgment until we know what the new system actually IS.

That said, this is likely the aspect of the expansion that I'm the most optimistic for, since anything that gives us new playstyle and build options is, in my estimation, always good.

I would hope that the itemization is more creative than the dull series of stats that are permuted for most sets (Weapon/Spell Damage, Weapon/Spell Critical, Health/Mag/Stam, etc.).

In other words, that a typical piece is closer in theming to "Spellsword's Raiment: Light and Heavy attacks use your highest offensive stats" and not something lazy like "Spellsword's Raiment: Adds 400 Spell Damage."

Also legit SMH at folks saying "But this might disrupt the 5-5-2 meta!" as if they're desirous for the current (boring!) gear configurations to remain sealed in amber until the servers shut down.

Well from what they said in the stream there is one that doubles your movement speed outside of combat and rises it 50% in combat, for PvP that will be absolutely broken.

There is a 100% speed cap in place, which is already really easy to reach ...
So unless this bypasses the speed cap it is pointless/useless.

Depends on your gear, doesn't it? This might provide another option to get there.

My thoughts ran along the lines of "boots of blinding speed". Gear that provides a benefit, but also suffers from limitations. That right there is enough to (hopefully) keep it off the "min/maxer" radar and still provide some fun for everyone else in the game.

I think the point is that, by only allowing one to be equipped in a regular slot, it makes you choose your gear differently. It is not intended to be an additional thing, but a replacement of something you currently have. You have to decide whether it is worth it. Or, failing that, some streamer or website will tell you.

The name Mythic reminds me of the DAoC company Mythic that created the Atlantis Expansion which in and of itself was humongous and MASTERFUL for the PVE encounters.

That said the PVE Boss encounters dropped singular "Artifact Weapons and Gear pieces", that were Highly OP for PVP. Many including myself believe this to break the playerbase/guilds from which it never recovered.

The rage of those days and aftermath... This reminds me of when a guy was playing on a PVP server and had singularly camped one "Cloudsong" Artifact Boss location for hours as at times they took 8+ hours after last killed, then finally Boss spawned and a group zerg rolled in over the horizon on Bard speed 5, killed the mob, got the artifact and all hell ensued on their voice chat :D

Hence the infamous "You stole My Cloudsong" audio came about. I can't link it for obvious reasons.

As far as Artifacts here. There's so many abilities that are released to sell the new DLC that are always OP at first. Take advantage of what you get as soon as possible. I don't think these are going to be vanity items and something will get the Hamma within months. :p

Nice, I remember camping things until all hours of the night waiting for a timer too. These days a group rolling in and no line up would be the norm.

On the stream they mentioned one item would add speed, doubled out of combat. That’s going to be strong as hell.

If I get the mythic piece that doubles your sprint speed then I can hang up my cowards gear on my farmer. Is the gear gonna be tradable or maybe the scroll that you find that leads you to it?
