People with more lore knowledge than I, which isn't hard to achieve, might be able to finish my thought here.

There is that "Gloom-something." I don't recall the name. Rigurt sings of it in a song in his quest in Elsweyr. When he's singing to the cat thinking she is the ambassador. He sings of "Gloom-something", and a recent post on data-mining found Gloom-something crown crates as well. Previously they have foreshadowed the next chapter in each one. Maybe Rigurts song was the foreshadowing of what's coming in 2020.

I wish I could remember more, but... Years of boozin it eventually catch up to you.

We arnt going back to TES5. We arnt gonna be dragon borns and most likely wont see any dragons flying in the skys. Those that cant see past one word in the title are gonna feel really dumb when they give us more info on jan 16th.

Skyrim is my least favorite tes game and I'm super excited about this chapter cause I know the lore and what happened during this time period. Skyrim was a whole different place then what we got in TES5. There is a lot they could give us to be excited about! I cant wait!

Only a minority of the detractors are talking about dragonborn stuff. It's mostly about being sick of Skyrim. Let's face it, Bethesda did saturate the market with Skyrim milking.

I mean, I know you and other streamers have a financial stake in the hype, but try to be calm.

I expected this, as well, but then I realized that maybe they are trying to make this into a multi-year event. An 8 part story.

Then again, it could just be that Bethesda needs something big in ESO for 2020 because Starfield comes out in 2020 and TES 6 comes out in 2021.

    Cool trailer.

But I do believe the time and resources used to produce those mini movies would be better spent on developing new systems for the game. With it's Champion Point system at a current standstill and much of it's content becoming overly simplified and meaningless for high level progression, the game is starting to stagnate. Flashy graphics is no substitute for involving game play.

Two completely different teams doing those things. The Graphics and Cinematics dudes would have not idea how to program stuff into the game and vice-versa.

Relatively sure these cinematics are produced by Blur studios, not under the umbrella of Zos at all.

November 2020 is ten years since release. Just as your birthday would conclude the tenth year since your release... As it were.

November 2020 begins the tenth year, 2021 begins the 11th year. But it's semantics at this point lol.

Doubt we will see more dragons in the numbers from Elsweyr, however given the dragons are awake we may see dragonpriest cult activity, that could be the plot hook to head north.

Since ESO takes place around 582-590 in the 2nd Era:

    1. The dark heart reference its probably Blackreach, the time period is about right for the Crimson Nirnroot discovery. and given Blackreach is below Winterhold, thats likely to be the hub location.

    a) Winterhold College did not outlaw necromancy so their should be no issues for Necromancer Players in the city (if the
location based illegality coding can be done successfully).
    b) Winterhold College and city was founded by Shalidor so expect a cameo at least.
    c) Given the nordic association with runes I'd expect the historically data-mined Weapon & Rune Skill Line.
    d) Lyris is likely to make an appearance given the references to Si Sahan visiting Snow-Lilly in Dragon Holds conclusion.
    e) Crimson Nirnroot can be used to amplify health & stamina damage as well as granting resistance to magic & invisibility.

    2. Id expect to see Falmer and Charnus raid events to replace the dolmen/geyser/dragon timed spawns.

    3. Whilst not in Winterhold the skyforge is around in this period, so skyforged steel weapons an armor are a possibility.

4, We are before the time of Kamil Long-nose's leadership of the Companions and their widespread Lycanthropy, so unlikely to have any overt companion/werewolf themes.

    5. Unfortunately we are 300 years before the birth of Tiber Septim/Talos and the waking of the Dagoth Ur and the ash vampires, both of which would have been interesting events :(

    Cool trailer.

But I do believe the time and resources used to produce those mini movies would be better spent on developing new systems for the game. Two completely different teams doing those things. The Graphics and Cinematics dudes would have not idea how to program stuff into the game and vice-versa.

    I'm sure that's the case.

But the money - which is likely substantial - being spent on producing those cinematics could be spent elsewhere, no pun intended. It's a poor allocation of resources in my opinion.

You are either underestimating the amount of money they make from people that see that trailer or overestimating how much it takes to make that trailer. Either way, the trailer is going to make the company more money then it took to make.

Quality cinematics can cost upward of over 10,000 dollars and 50 man hours of work per finished second. And that's a low end estimate and doesn't include overhead or management costs. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but that sounds like a lot to me.

You may be right that its production value will outweigh the costs. But speaking for myself, I have never purchased or played a game due to some fancy intro trailer. They are just fluff as far as I'm concerned, and add nothing of real value to the game. I would have preferred those resources put into server upgrades or the implementation of new in-game systems that actually enrich the game play.

So much negativity. I love we are going back to skyrim! I hope we see the college of winterhold and see solitude again. Nothing wrong with nostalgia when done right, and i have full faith that the dev team can do it. The morriwind expansion wasnt the best, but i think they are able to see what they did wrong with trying to bring back nostalgia with that And in turn take the lessons they’ve learned with chapters elswyr and summerset and combine it with what led them to such great sucess with imperial city and orsinium.... this could lead to an amazing surge in success for ESO.

(Do pardon my lack of proper punctuation, i blame it on the American Public education system)

Not interested inn the Reach so much, but Winterhold would be intersting. Also thinking some kind of trial to do with Labyrintian, even though it's not in Winterhold.

I just hope it's not gonna be even more draugr, bandits, dragons, and Dwemer engines...There's an entire Elder Scrolls Universe of lore to explore and somehow the Skyrim region still keeps getting milked long after it has dried up; The name "Skyrim" almost feels like a franchise of its own at this point. When viewed objectively, TES V wasn't even good by gameplay standards, it was just massively overrated as the most awaited and ambitious Elder Scrolls game to date by rabid fans. Ironically, the best content of TES V didn't even take place in Skyrim, it was on Solstheim which is part of Morrowind. Not to say I didn't have fun with TES V: Skyrim, but I think it's time to move on and explore something new.

Then again I could be wrong, they may have plans for something completely different, like an explorable, underground zone based on Blackreach, but that would still be heavily Dwemer-based, and we know that at least one dragon - Vulthuryol - may be there. Personally I'm hoping they finally add an actual zone within a plane of Oblivion we haven't been able to explore yet. Exploration factor has been very weak these last few updates, and there's no real rewards or secrets in exploration either.

Its just a title. Either for the next Dungeon pack or the story season. "The Dark Heart" could mean a lot of things. Conspiracy behind Skyrim's Jarls or High King, the Blackreach, another dark baddy story etc.

Really it just sounds like January's dungeon pack.

I think it's more due to the technology of the time, any other region could have met the same fate had they been TES V in place of Skyrim. Have to consider how much modding extended Skyrim gameplay, well beyod it' natural life.

For those of you who don't see any point in going back to Skyrim because we went there in TESV, keep in mind the fact that Winterhold was destroyed before the events of that game, and is still standing during the events of ESO.

I get that not everyone is excited to return to Skyrim. But as someone who legitimately loves The Elder Scrolls' lore, the idea of getting to see what Winterhold was like when it was Skyrim's capital is friggin' exciting to me!

Just a tip: lower your expectations or you might get disappointed. We will be getting the rest of Skyrim. Winterhold is north of Windhelm or at least that is, where it should be. Remember, they messed up the map. Anyway, it is unlikely we will get Winterhold, when it is located in eastern Skyrim and the expansion is about western skyrim.

Well last chapter was about nothern elsweyr then we got souther elsweyr

But in the case of Skyrim they messed up the map. Where are they going to place it? It should be north of Windhelm but there is only water. Is Winterhold going to be the Atlantis of Tamriel, or what?

    meh... whatever

I am quite happy with my modded Skyrim, and still have plenty enough to do with that game, to care one way or another about more ESO Skyrim.

Besides... Next year is gonna be a year of Cyberpunk for me. In addition to one certain somewhat anticipated game, got several more on my backlog to slog through, so those are gonna be my main focus for 2020.

I really don't know how much I will end up spending time with ESO. I'm sure I'll play some, since it's the only MMO I have currently vested myself with, and am in no mood to start with a completely new one either.

As for the next chapter... Well depends on what they ask for it. If I feel it is priced too high, I am more than willing to wait till it goes on sale, or even till it becomes part of the core game sometime in the future.

And if the game ends up and dies before I ever get around to it... Even more of a whatever. Plenty of other stuff to occupy my time with in the world.

The thing though is, that there are plenty of things left in Tamriel that would've sparked my interest enough to invest more time and money into ESO, but Skyrim sure aint one of them, so in a sense am happy with the choice they went with, since it will make ignorign ESO easier and lets me focus more on near future dystopian things.

What in that trailer even made you think "more dragons"?

Some people just garbage post for the sake of garbage posting, jfc.

yes...especially since they have basically done EVERY other region besides skyrim

    Um, Hammerfell?

they need to save this for last to tie over to the release and story in TES VI - shall we bet?

Why? It was meant to point out that Skyrim isn't the only largely unexplored location on the map. Could have said Black Marsh too as that only have Shadowfen and a small dlc (Murkmire) to show it off. Skyrim has a lot more of itself ingame than that.

And yes Hammerfell could be TESVI. Or Black Marsh could. Or maybe we spend all of our time in VI in Oblivion or timetravelling. Or Akavir for all you or I know.

Well except that most of Black Marsh is literally unhabitable by non argonians...

I don't get the "it's just being done to appeal to nostalgia" complaint. Skyrim is one of the provinces of Tamriel, and ESO is the first ES game since Arena to encompass most of Tamriel, and hopefully some day all of Tamriel. What was ZOS supposed to do, add the rest of Tamriel to ESO but leave most of Skyrim out so as not to offend the anti-nostalgists? If they were going to add it sooner or later anyway, what difference does it make that they're doing it in 2020?
