ESO not very single player friendy

  • rotifer_uk
Him mm yes well I'm a bit fed up, as an older player, I don't really know many people playing and the few I do are usually offline, lately,
been trying to do a couple of undaunted missions to get some monster gear sets, well its almost impossible on my own,
and thinking about it most things in this game seen geared towards group play ,Alliance wars , Battlegrounds, dungeons undaunted.
really the only thing you can do as a single player are basic story missions, and the rewards are crap, I don't know,
I can join a group finder , but its usually not the missions I want to do, and if I post , nobody seems to do my quests, feel like its just a waste of time lately.
any advice would be welcome as how to solo some of these missions, I'm cp 290 night blade thanks

If you want to solo group dungeons you need to build a character specifically for this. I suggest a pet sorc leveled to 50. This is the build I copied.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TltS1PUapZM&feature=youtu.be

So far I have managed to solo the following group dungeons.

    Crypt of Hearts 1
    Tempest Island
    Volenfell
    Blessed Crucible
    Darkshade Caverns 1
    City Of Ash 1
    Elden Hollow 1
    Wayrest Sewers 1
    Fungal Grotto 1
    Banished Cells 1
    Spindleclutch 1
    Arx Corinium

You will also need to increase your CP somewhat. Mine is currently at 490.

I play on the Eu server, my game ID is rotiferuk and I'm an older (as in a pensioner) player.

Look me up in game if you want to try and duo some content or grind for CP.

I disagree. Been playing since 2015 and have played the majority of this game solo. the only content i don't do solo is dungeons because obviously.

But otherwise nah, this game is actually very single player friendly.

I really wish there were single player versions of all the dungeons, even if the rewards were lesser. Why? Because I like to take my time through them and experience them fully. And yes there are a few folks out there who feel the same way but it's difficult to find compatible playtimes often enough. If they'd do this I might actually buy some of the dungeon DLC. But as it stands? Nope.

@rotifer_uk your list of alliance normal dungeons you can solo looks very much like mine. I also think the game is, thankfully, pretty solo friendly and am pleased that a decent solo player can take on a fair number of normal alliance dungeons and most alliance zone WBs. For me as primarily a solo player, those activities constitute my 'end game' and I'm glad they are tuned to allow for that so we have some good options for solo players and newer pug players.

Reviewing the list of dungeons you can solo, you might also try Arx Corinium for sure. And even give Blessed Crucible a try.
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

To be honest, I can’t think of any quests that can’t be done with ease solo. ESO is extremely solo-friendly. I can only conclude that you are not properly geared. At 290, with the exception of world bosses and dungeons, everything should be simple to complete. Are you wearing armour sets? If not, and you are on Xbox, PM me here and I’ll craft you some gear that will make things easier for you. Also, as other have suggested, join a guild. ESO is a social game, it’s better played with others. Good luck!

Well compared to some mmos it seems more solo friendly from what I've seen. But MMOs tend to put at least some content into group related stuff and having to play with others. Now I don't play MMOs much but as far as I can tell it's at reasonably friendly to solo play with the exception of the group dungeons and such. I don't know if any mmo can be completely solo played. If the group finder doesn't work as some have stated I suppose you could tried a guild or something. I don't know I haven't tried much of the group content yet myself.

Op you should join a guild. Maybe a couple. Once you do, you’ll find many people want and need to do the same things as you.

Many folks would be happy to help you out.

@twilightwarrick the solution to your "problem" is the Golden Vendor that sells Undaunted set shoulders and helmets every weekend.
You can buy for Alliance Points or for gold.

So, just stockpile gold, and check in every weekend to see if they sell anything you find interesting.

It was never marketed as MMO but an Elder Scrolls game...that is online. NO mention of "MMO" EVER. In fact ESO marketing avoided the term as a plague because all the negative connotations it has aquired over the years (WoW is going down and Blizzard had mass layoffs)

So yelling "ITS A MMO!!!!!!!!" means you dont have a clue what ESO is and are in the wrong game.

All "MMOs" that disregarded soloers are either dead or dying.

And people are right ALL dungeons in the game should have solo version, try doing dungeon quest and see why majority of people refuse to group.

I know I knew it was an MMO before I got it. Not sure if that was due to marketing or just looking up information about it but I knew it was an MMO before buying it myself. Though while there's few mmos that have really held my interest I figured I'd give it a go anyway. It's probably one of the few mmos I've really put much time into.

The title of the game is "Elder Scrols Online".

It is Skyrim Online. it fits the definition the best.

Happy to help you misguided people that have been misinforming others that ESO is a "MMO" when it isnt and ZOS NEVER ever claimed it is.In FACT they are marketing it pretty much as "Skyrim Online".

Same here, old and bitter, been playing ESO (mostly) solo since early beta. The key to soloing vet dungeons and farming for monster helmets is to find a setup where you can either mitigate damage or heal through the damage (give up dps for resistance/hps) or take some heat off your character (Pet Sorc).

I have 4 main characters, one for each of the base classes, and i found that my Pet Sorc is by far the easiest for soloing vet dungeons (even after all the nerfs).
    bye1.gif

PS: If you give Pet Sorc a try, here's a little hint: The Clannfear still does a soft taunt *if* you enter a group dungeon solo. Most people don't know that since it doesn't do that anymore when you are in a group. It helps keeping the heat off your character.

I believe this is because of the fact that the pet stuns.
Any form of CC or an attempt of will generate aggro.

    I might be wrong...

    Well let's see

"A massively multiplayer online game (MMOG, or more commonly, MMO) is an online game with large numbers of players, typically from hundreds to thousands, on the same server. MMOs usually feature a huge, persistent open world, although some games differ. These games can be found for most network-capable platforms, including the personal computer, video game console, or smartphones and other mobile devices."

It seems to fit at least that definition. If it were just an online game it'd likely be just team matches or whatever non-mmo games do.

Also their on steam page uses an mmo tag

    1. So you're saying only your definition is the correct one? But do please explain which parts of an MMO it doesn't fit since you claim to be the expert I'm sure someone will listen to.

    2. Of course everyone except yourself is misguided. Keep telling yourself this. I'm not going to bother wasting my time any more. You seem to like to argue that everyone else is wrong except you for some reason I can't even begin to fathom. But if it's so important to you to believe it's not an MMO and argue that it's not you go do that.

Not solo friendly? You can solo near 95% of the game. In older mmo's (Vanguard, EQ) you needed a group at least half of the content if not more (depending on classes as some classes just could solo more)

I even look out for new mmo's that encourage group play because ESO is a boring world with no groups required.

And yes, it is an mmo. It is massive it is multiplayer and online.

ESO's definitely one of the most solo-friendly games I've played. I think only SWTOR is friendlier, and only because Bioware specifically created solo modes for about half of its plot-related group dungeons. The sheer volume of soloable content feels overwhelming sometimes, especially when I'm heading to a brand new map with a toon that hasn't been there.

I'm older too, and a bit of a hermit. I run exclusively solo, and I'm loving it. A lot of the main story dungeons have beautiful design, same with the Mages' Guild.

Keep in mind that while the quest rewards are pretty crappy, a couple of CP 160 crafted overland sets are more than enough to do any soloable content. You don't need monster gear to make it through most solo stuff in the game.

I quit the game for probably about 2 years (more or less), and when I came back last Feb, I found myself in this situation too. When I first came back, most of the people I know I couldn't find anymore, and most people who were still in my list were either offline (most of the time) or already have other groups/guilds they played with. To be fair, I like doing most of the content solo-- I love exploration and the quests in ESO. As for the group content though, well... it's mostly pledges right? So I just queue for those, and I am ok using the group finder for that. The issue I had was for the newer DLC dungeons, so I suppose that is why I joined groups who were focused on PvE. For PvP, I always go solo. Lol.

Anyways, my suggestion is there are a lot of casual guilds in the game. Join them. Most of them are pretty quick to answer if you needed help in most group content.

As many people have already pointed out, you CAN.
You just have to put some effort to it.

Veteran Maelstrom Arena is the benchmark for solo player, any player that can finish vMA can surely solo any and all non DLC dungeons on normal, maybe even veteran.

If you can't beat vMA, that is on YOU, not the game nor the developers.

This game can be soloed, even the group dungeons, but you need to work for it.

For ALL misguided people out there to stop deceiving others:

“We don’t even use the term MMO with The Elder Scrolls Online anymore, because really it’s not,” game director Matt Firor says. “MMO was a term coined in 1997 with Ultima Online, EverQuest, and Dark Age of Camelot – we are not that game.”

"To answer your question about comparing ESO to other MMOs: ESO is not really a traditional MMO, so we don’t use that term much around the office – and it is this distinction that separates it from other games. If you want to play it solo, like you did with other Elder Scrolls games, you can do that."

Sounds a LOT like Skyrim online, AMAZING!

    Bottom line:

    You CAN solo almost everything.
Even the content that was designed for groups.

You CAN get Undaunted gear without ever grouping.

But I guess it's easier to feel entitled to have everything served on a silver platter than to actually make an effort.

I treat ESO as a solo game with chat, except when doing guild events, and that's worked for 5 years so far.

Public dungeons and dolmens/geysers are good for levelling and zone gear. Anyone over CP 160 should be able to solo all of that content, except some of the geyser bosses will need a couple other people to show up. The steady swarm at Alikr dolmens is easy to join in and run as much as you can stand. Do the Mage, Fighter, and Undaunted guild dailies to give you somewhere to go, there's usually enough others doing those you'll run thru them quickly, and the reward boxes are very profitable.

For casual stuff, go to any zone with world boss daily quests (Wrothgar, Vvardenfell, Summerset; you can try Craglorn but few people are willing to do the group content), and advertise the WB in zone chat (the only time I advise reading zone chat), you can almost always get a casual group to do that, and it requires less competence from the PUG than dungeons.

Like everyone else says, join a guild. Then do trials, or go on big group world boss runs with them.

"Group" Dungeons are a pain even with guildies, and a nightmare with PUGs, ZOS designed them as single-player content that can only be played with a group, one of many terrible 2013-era design decisions still haunting this game. When you're CP 600+, you'll be able to solo most of them in normal, sometimes veteran.

PVP bores/annoys me, but even there you can do a lot solo, or just tagging along with a zerg group, and not having to deal with organized grouping. IC is good for solo PVE/PVP if you're stealthy.

A lot of my endgame activity is auction house sales (I'm in 2 high-end trade guilds and 1 social-but-also-trade guild), buying & decorating houses, crafting, and just sightseeing or finding weird edge cases of the game world.
Kitty Rainbow Dash. pick, pick, stab.
