Hidden or Lesser Known Tips and Tricks for ESO!

Considering how many new players are here at the moment, I thought this would be a great thread for us to share our tips and tricks that are perhaps not that obvious or well known, especially to newer players, and perhaps some older players too that may have missed it! So please share anything like this to help! :) Here are mine:
  • Adding notes to friends list and block list. You can add dates so you know when you added them, or where you know them from, same for block list, including a reason why you blocked them.
  • Change your default name preference to Account Name! The reason I would recommend this is to allow you to get to know your guildies and friends better. You might not recognise the people you play with if they log in on a different character all the time. Many people think they are talking to a new person, when actually its just a different character.
  • Bind a key to hide UI for screenshots. It is in the control settings, you just have to bind a key for toggle UI.
  • You can reset a trial or dungeon instance without disbanding the whole group. The leader just ports out, changes the difficulty once and then back to what it was, this will automatically kick everyone still in the trial, and then you can port into a brand new instance, and then everyone can just follow you.
  • Choose custom colours for your guilds to tell them apart. It will make them more memorable and characteristic.
  • You can receive mail once per zone instantly. For example if you port somewhere, buy something from a trader, you can open your mail and it should instantly arrive. Assuming you haven't already opened the mail interface in that zone. After that, you will need to wait a bit longer or port to a new zone or area (such as outlaws refuge) to get it to appear.
  • You can travel to any zone for free by just finding someone in your friends or guild list and travelling to them, even ones you haven't discovered yet.
  • Quickslot almost anything! Mementos, banker, merchant, hide helmet, pets and skins, not just your potions and food!

You can also use an add on called EasyTravel. Just /tp and type where it is you want to go and it will take you there as long as somebody is there already (it shows how many players are in the area).

While the tips are useful, they're very much based around players who have friends already in the game or who immediately join a guild, and those players aren't really in need of outside advice as they get it from their friends and guilds. Personally I'd advise against jumping into guilds until you have an understanding of the way the game plays but others will feel differently. Exploration and discovery are key parts of any game and those who want to be told everything at the outset tend to be the same people who complain later about having nothing to do and the game being too easy  !

My main tip would be that you want if possible to unlock wayshrines by visiting them and travel between them for free, rather than traveling to one from anywhere else at an escalating charge. Also, be sure to take your free inn room in each alliance area as you can always travel free to those rooms from anywhere in the world and then exit the room and use a nearby wayshrine.

Really? I cannot enter in game right now to see, damn I cant believe there is such option and never noticed.

I wish I knew about it! I have some awful moments, especially with a dude who writes to me from time to time: "sup? how's going?", "doing well?" I don't have the faintest idea who the hell is, he seems a nice guy but I cannot remember for the life of me where and how he ended up in my list and it's been long time because I remember it as an old name!

I don't feel to ask who he is because it gives me the idea he's utterly convinced I know him very well, it's all kind of awkward situation. I even tried to ask something on the fly about what he was doing to understand if we met in pve or pvp to delineate something, but I can't freaking understand because I don't want expose me too much and reveal I don't remember a damn. He gave me the impression at some point it's something related to trading and there is no way in hell I remember something I could have sold or bought in chat(?) that "bound" me to him.

I wish I knew I could put notes, at least I would know. This could remain the biggest mystery of my ESO game.

      • If you have ESO+ and queue for Random Dungeons and happen to get a DLC dungeon you don't want to engage, tp to another dungeon via the map and finish the dungeon and you'll still get the random reward ;)
      • You can bash channeled abilities in dungeons. (red sparks on enemy)
      • To avoid damage move out of red circles(default color)
      • to see enemies better you can turn on their healthbars or increase your brightness
      • To get healed stay in front of healer (or try to stack with other dd) and don't run around that much
      • Don't facetank mobs as DD if you can't handle it

      • You can reset a trial or dungeon instance without disbanding the whole group. The leader just ports out, changes the difficulty once and then back to what it was, this will automatically kick everyone still in the trial, and then you can port into a brand new instance, and then everyone can just follow you.
This only works for trials. Dungeons (4 man, at least) will not let you change from norm to vet or vice versa so long as someone remains in the instance.
      • Choose custom colours for your guilds to tell them apart. It will make them more memorable and characteristic.
Sadly, this is not account wide, for some stupid reason, so you'll have to set up the color scheme on each individual character.

Another caveat of this is the colors are attached to the guild slot (1-5), not the guild, so if you ever leave guild 1-4, you'll have to reset your colors yet again. once fpr each character. You can also change the default colors of various chats, such as zone, yell, whisper, etc.
I'm not sure exactly how (if) this works, or if you've just been lucky with timing. Worth a shot though.
      • You can travel to any zone for free by just finding someone in your friends or guild list and travelling to them, even ones you haven't discovered yet.
As an additional easter egg with this, you can sometimes port to instances you would otherwise not be able to visit, or revisit using this method, as well. There are no exploits to be had, but you can meander around the area and take in what the level designers have created.

This can also be helpful within delves and such. If you travel to player, it will take you to the nearest wayshrine. If you wait until they're inside, it will put you right inside the front door.

You can still port to player if you're standing right next to each other. It will still take you to the nearest wayshrine, sometimes unlocking one you had previously missed.
      • Quickslot almost anything! Mementos, banker, merchant, hide helmet, pets and skins, not just your potions and food!
This is especially helpful for maps you wish to view frequently and compare.

      A few additions I'd add:
      • You can click on your map to set a personal waypoint. It will show on your compass, as well.
      • You can Shift-Click on your map to set a group waypoint which will be visible to other group members.
      • You can add additional chat tabs and then select which groups/guilds/chat types show on the appropriate tabs.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

      Earn it.

      I learned this recently...

You can change your camera settings to center your character and zoom on it, with a lower camera (for screenshots or RP) , or on the contrary, put the camera higher for a better panorama and a big field of view around your character (for combat).

With the upcoming TG+DB anniversary event in mind:
      • If your Sacrament calls for using poison, you can still Blade of Woe your target and have it count, as long as you have a poison equipped on the active weapon bar.
      • you can pickup and do a Sacrament, then turn it in on the next day and immediately pick up a new one. This saves you a bit of running around in the Sanctuary, and allows you to start on the day before the event actually starts, if you like.
      Also:
      • Many zones have special bonuses available from encounters or quests. For example:
        • in most of the original 15 zones, after you have done the "lightbringer" encounter, if you meet the two travellers again and use their fire again, you get a stamina bonus for 10 minutes (plus some free xp)
        • You can get a 10 minute health bonus by interacting with Ayleid wells in some places (e.g. Cyrodiil)
        • Grahtwood has a quest which allows you to use certain locations to get a combat bonus while in the zone
        • Using the pillar of light after completing Anka-Ra, nirncrux mine, and Anomaly "world boss" encounters gives you a buff while you remain in Craglorn (excluding trials)
        • Killing a delve boss in Cyrodiil gives you a 2-hour 20% bonus to AP gained (I think)
        • Wrothgar has an encounter where you can buy a special drink that gives a temporary stamina recovery bonus while you are in Wrothgar
      • Master writs are a great way to level up non-combat skills on new toons. Once you have maxed enchanting and alchemy on that character, save any master writs for those two crafts for your new character, as these are the easiest to do (don't require a lot of traits researched, recipes or motifs). You can even buy them at reasonable prices. Use the Writworthy addon and then just turn in 10 or 20 master writs at a time, preferably while using an XP pot or scroll for extra benefit. Make sure you have only unlevelled skills on your bar at the time when you turn in the writs.

      1. You can port to a wayshrine for free if you go to another wayshrine and press E. Before you say that everyone knows that, I tell you I've seen new players porting to wayshrines through the map from the place they were standing at and they were complaining that fast travel is too expensive in this game.
      2. Magical damage is not a damage dealt with all magicka-based abilities. Magicka-based abilities can deal several types of damage: magical, fire, shock, frost (and sometimes other types such as oblivion damage, decease, etc.), so magical damage is just one of these damage types. The same with physical damage. The following are different damage types: magical, fire, frost, shock, physical, poison, decease, oblivion.
      3. You can reset your skill points and attribute points for gold (so you don't have to buy some resetting items in the Crown Store). There was a guy who asked what morph he should use for a tank role and then he said "ok, I'll reset my skills later, I don't have crowns right now".
      4. You can fall off any height and don't die if there're some sloping surfaces or something like that. The thing is, when you land to such things which you can't stand on but can slope off, the game doesn't apply fall damage to the character.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

On console, you can quick snap from your map in and out of zones using R1 and L1. R2 and L2 are the slow pan in and out.

In every zone's major city, there's either a caravan or a boatswain that can port you for free to the city that's next in line in the chain of zone order.

/wave Glaciana! Nice list :) People do forget to let the newbies know these things as well as some others that were added and since I don't see here and am constantly informing folks:

The in game map is interactive:

If you are in a city it will show only the city but you can click on the map to zoom out to see the entire zone (alternately, you can use the 'pin' tab on the map menu to view a list of all zones and click on a zone to see entire zone); click on a highlighted area (city) to zoom into it to see what's there --->

The map icons have things to tell you! Mouse over them to see what they are and what's available there! --->

The scales&shield icon with a list of 6 names is a Guild Trader Hub ~ there is at least one of these in each zone :)

You can use /stuck to get unstuck if you´re caught in terrain.

You can open reward containers on higher level characters, the items inside will be levelled to whoever opens them, not the level of the character earning it.

You can bind dodge roll to a single hotkey and reduce the max time for roll dodge in settings to roll quickly, and not roll accidentally. Trust me this makes a big improvement in fluid gameplay.

You can bind interrupt to a single hotkey to not lose stamina regeneration if you want to interrupt and not block.

You can see monsters and players through walls if you tag them with (default) tab.

You can see if you´ve completed the objective for a town or similar on the map: it will turn from black with white border to all white, and when you mouse over it the text has changed to 'You helped yada yada yada'.

To level legerdemain (increased pickpocketing chance is useful for Thieves´ Guild), steal tons of worthless items like ingredients when you find an unguarded cellar or so, and fence them until you´ve reached the limit. Useful to do at times when you don´t do TG quests or fence for cash.

Even if you are never going to craft, research everything. If nothing else you need it for retraiting, but also the last trait takes 30 days with full passives, so better than to prepare than realise you want a crafter - and can only get one a month from now...

...and that is if you buy research scrolls from guild traders, which I recommend if you want to level a crafter fast.

Head, chest, legs and shield hold full enchantment value, other items hold less than the 'up to XXXX resource' value of a glyph. (Had a guildie confused about this in chat today, he wondered why his enchantments were so small)

Ignore the meta. Always ignore the meta.

Unless you are playing in a full campaign, you can teleport back to the start zone in Cyrodiil by entering another campaign and then switching back. Useful when you are far away from the action and dont want to suicide.
