I say character because calling them toons makes me think of a cartoon but if others want to call them toons or whatever that's theirs choice and it doesn't make a difference to me.
People can call them whatever they want and that is just fine, however, they are properly and correctly identified as 'characters' and literally are not 'toons'. That's why the game consists of NPC's rather than NPT's.They are toons. This is a cartoon world with cartoon characters. It isn't real, it's all animated, that is what a cartoon is.
I can’t stand the word “toons” for our characters.
Maybe when they looked like cartoons back in WoW but it honestly irks me in this game.
I say “character” or “avatar” or “avvie”** or “alt” or “dude”.
Like this, “Oh let me change avatars, brb”
Or, “I’m not on my crafting alt, one sec”
Or if in voice chat “I’ll go get another dude for this run.”
It’s more than a pet peeve! It’s almost like when I had a manager that said “irregardless”
Edit: this is silly thread for fun ppl... I apologize for upsetting some of you
Edit 2: ** I have been reliably informed that the kids no longer say “avvie” lol. I shall strike it from my lexicon

Depends
I say “oh my god” mostly and “gosh” when I’m being facetious/cheeky
Coming from a guy who prefers 'avvie' this is pretty rich. Your opinion is not as popular as you had hoped i guess.
"char" (pronounced "kar") or "character", just like in a tabletop RPG. In MUDs and Second Life they were often "avatar", but that's less appropriate for a bucket-of-stats like an ESO character.
"Vomit". And yeah, that's kind of the point: it started out as "think of a sensible name!" when I started playing Oblivion and was creating my first character. I spent ages poring over the series' lore but nothing appealed to me. After what seemed like an age I finally gave up and decided maybe I would be better off choosing something stupid instead.Mannix1958 wrote: »
I never much liked "toons" when I first encountered it, but because it's so widespread it's found its way into my vocabulary too, honestly. Still don't much like it, but it is easier to type than "characters" when you're in a hurry or whatever.
The real issue, which has just now come to my attention, is that there are people who say "avvie"...
I'm not sure why I have such strong feelings about this, but I think the only rational solution is: If I see you type "my avvie" in game, I'm immediately dropping group, adding you to the Ignore list, and steering clear of wherever I met you for at least 24 hours. Then I might go take a shower.
"Avvie".... gross
Nooooo UwU anything but that! Lol
I’ve never typed it in chat I swear, I may have said it when trying to explain character-bound vs account-wide stuff to someone new though
That’s it, you guys have convinced me that “avvie” is an automatic -50 DKP
For what it's worth, my response was in a similar "in-good-fun" sort of spirit I took this thread to be made in. I don't have that strong of feelings about it, haha.
Avvie is a bit... creepy(?) for lack of better word, though. :P

I had a boss that says "irregardless." I pointed out that it wasnt a word, and he said "irregardless, I'm using it."
I dont use "toons" either, but the poll option is funny.
