Oceanic Lag now 300-400 ms even with a vpn - was 250-300??

well, interestingly, last night i decided to give mudfish a go after reading these forum posts

(I've never used a vpn before, but it was pretty straightforward to set up & free to test)

I played for about 3hrs (until maintenance) & my ping never went over 250, which strangely is the lowest its been for a looong while.

I'll see how it goes today, but i guess the upshot is, if i want to carry on with ESO I will need to trade my eso+ sub for a vpn service to continue playing from NZ. Not sure on the costs (anyone?) but surely not more than my eso+

Mudfish is pretty cheap. My $2.99 AUD from last month is only about half gone (traffic will vary depending on what you're doing and where you are - trials, populated areas, cyro will use more data). Compared to ESO+ at ~$14 AUD per month...

They differentially dont have a oceanic community as they are pretty set on driving us away to other games who care about the service they provide to this side of the world

It will show you what the ping should be, but the funky routing through the Netherlands screws that up when connected to the ESO server.

All of these traces including my own show the same thing, the hop to 93.191.173.93 (in the case of the one above) is screwing us up big time. This is a Netherlands address !! The really annoying part is if we run a speedtest to a Netherlands site the ping is way better than we get in game.

There is that same damn Netherlands address with the huge jump in latency.

I urge anyone that hasn't already to post here if you are having ping issues. Include a tracert if you want. Instructions on how to do so are here:
    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30903/kw/trace route

Surely there has to be a point where ZoS has to at least acknowledge there is an issue here. It would certainly be a step towards getting something done about it. Lets keep this thread growing!

NZ player here, been dealing with high ping for the past month and a half. I know its not my end (Spark Fiber) as I have absolutely no issues like this with FFXIV and the other games I've been playing.

Usually sat around 250 ping, 233 if it was a good day. Now I'm constantly in the red (330+) and whenever I jump into dungeons or attempt vMA it skyrockets regularly. I can no longer run trial content with my guild and friends and am stuck on normal dungeons. DPSing has become nigh impossible and as a result I've had to level up a healer so I can still somewhat play on a 'normal' setting. What's worse is guild-mates in the US don't fully understand how bad it is, and Im constantly having to say I can't join in on a run because Im tired of slowing groups down and being a liability / not pulling my weight. I've been effectively locked out of a majority of group content and vMA, which is something i loved running because of the challenge it gave me.

This absolutely sucks and I wish ZOS would address this. I love the game, even if some recent 'balance' issues have been irritating. Please ZOS, I beg you to at least give us some manner of feedback about this. Its at nine pages already. So many Oceanic players are struggling and loosing interest and faith in the game, and I for one can say if its not fixed soon I might as well quit and try find something else to do in my free time as the 300-400 ping+ is utterly unplayable :(

edit: fixed last sentence / typo

    Lucky for you. :)

Mine's still permanently in the red, ~100ms more than it used to be.

It's the random +999 ping spikes that require a log off that's a game breaker for me.

I too have noticed a slight improvement in the last few days, now I am at 300-330 (360-400 in cyrodil) and have seen less spikes. Still, without my vpn I am at 380 and a few weeks before this patch I was at 270-280 with the vpn. Still pretty appalling that I need a vpn to be anywhere near what I could get 2 years ago without one.

Egads, I ran a raid in no - cp Sotha last night that cast this thread in sharp focus. All the Aussie's in it experienced lag spikes & disconnects to such a horrendous level a number simply logged off. Our English guildies were the barometer for our bad performance.

Now, bearing in mind this was no-cp, not US prime hours & 1 bar population. As Crown I'd have given my Kingdom to simply bar swop let alone the ability to play the game I love(d) with my friends on my Friday night off.

They are routing our packets back through the Europe before it hits the Maryland based NA server.
This is evidenced by any southern hemisphere player by performing a basic trace-route. (you can use pingplotter and ip location finder to qualify this information for yourselves).

When you look in to it further, our packets final destination is 198.20.198.110, but after leaving Australia at 40ms, it then routes through Japan (180.97.181.42) which takes it up to 200ms, then it hits the Netherlands, specifically Akamai.com (93.191.173.25) which increase's the latency another 100ms (which is also the server responsible for the bad packet loss that occurs leading to massive latency spikes from what I can tell), to then head to the NA American server.

That is just utter *** - and completely fixable, you cheap ass mofo's.

My ping from NZ use to be 180 - 220. It's now a constant 300+. I took a year off from this game because of a few issues I thought needed addressing, but have come back to it being even worse than before.

With the new inclusion of Battlegrounds - which are pretty fun - latency has become a much bigger issue, as the timing of casting has become a lot more critical with such fast paced combat (fast for an mmo at least).

This is just disgusting Zenimax/Bethesda. Just to simply ignore and not care about all the southern hemisphere players, or their quality of gameplay its beyond explainable. So I really hope you pay attention to the outcry here in this thread, though if the current attitude is anything to go by, I think we're all *** outta luck, and I'll just once again forget about this game and move on.

With the amount of money being made from this game - there is exactly ZERO reasons as to why you cannot setup a southern hemisphere server, even if its apart of the Australian Amazon server farm - it would be better than the status quo.

...im really tired of this situation, lag, disconect, game crash.

It would be great if we knew the next steps in ZOS about these server-related issues. Do not want to ignite anything, or cause unnecessary friction, just have some hope for the near future.

I believe ZOS has worked to fix any issues, however I would read more predictions about. @ZOS_GinaBruno Any expectations for upcoming patches?

Since murkmire from 6pm to 12pm ESO is unplayable for me, especialy on weekends, my ping constantly jumps from normal 100-150 to 400-999 and this happens everywhere in game. This doesn't happen in any other game. I live in Israel and i asked others and they also have lag issues but not as bad as mine, so im not sure if its ESO being ESO or my ISP...

Our money isnt green enough for them dear sir.

So talk with your money and spend it else where with a company that does care ;)

So I've just logged in for the first time this month. In game latency was hovering between 300 - 330 with the periodic ping spike up to 500. So still quite poor compared to early October but is at least moving in the right direction.

Tonight's trace route also shows the routing has changed from my previous posts. It's looking a lot better than those and some of the problems look like they're in telstra's network more so than the Akamai hops.

Fingers crossed we're moving towards a solution!!!!

Tracing route to 198.20.198.100 over a maximum of 30 hops
