In addition to the upgrade, motifs, crates, houses, and furniture are all no longer giftable.

Earn your money by killing NPC, or selling in zone chat, or buy it for crowns, or run from guild store to guild store.
Someone will always complain about what you do.
Stick to the ToS only.

It is the same.
Players who buy the gold through the sale of crown store items didn't work in-game for this gold, i.e no farming was conducted at all.
They quite literally:
1. Used their credit card to buy crown packs.
2. bought the crown store items.
3. They sold the items and received GOLD.
I don't wish to argue about this since it will go on forever.
Also, many players have agenda to let it happen since they themselves earn gold in this shady process.
I think the issue was that when you gifted crown crates there would be no number to let you know how many crates you were getting, so far all you know you could be paying 1m for one crate.

Too bad the ToS doesn't cover it.
There shouldn't be gold buying in any form whatsoever.
I can't change the rules or the ToS, if I were able to, such a shady process wouldn't have existed to begin with

That's unfortunate.
I was hoping that finally ZOS decided to restrict and/or disallow it.
