crown store gifting changes

SirBrandalfTheGreat
Has anyone else noticed a large fluctuation in whats giftable and what isn't? A while back, outfit slots were not giftable, then recently (i think) were, but just this week sometime closed again. In addition to the upgrade, motifs, crates, houses, and furniture are all no longer giftable.

Does anyone know the reason for this or if its unintended?

All gifting was closed because of an issue. What that "issue" is, ZOS did not explain.

Oh my, I didn't check store for any of these things today... :o Now I understand why they needed to disable gifting so suddenly for some time. All the upgrades, instant character-wide unlocks and furniture were allowed to be gifted since Summerset, so if after today's store update they all became unavailable for gifting, it's definitely some bug. And crates were definitely meant to be always available for gifting since the start of this system

I never accepted the current type of crown store gifting.
Players were exploiting it left and right, selling numerous crown store items for gold.
It is literally gold buying through the sale of crown store items.
I hope that by taking down the crown store gifting for investigation, ZOS is considering how to restrict crown store gifting so it won't be exploited.

While they said it's ok to trade crown store item for gold, it became ridiculous how fast players were accumulating massive amounts of gold.
Maybe they finally changed their mind about this and restrict or disallow it by some manner.
I suggested the following as the first step:
"Please limit the number of gifts an account can deliver, for example:
1 gift of 1-500 crowns per week.
1 gift of 501-1,000 crowns per month.
1 gift of 1,001-1,500 crowns per 2 months.
1 gift of 1,501-3,000 crowns per 3 months.
    1 gift of 3,001-5,000+ crowns per 6 months. "

@Universe that isn't what is happening at all. One of our crown merchants in the TCE found an exploit and immediately reported it. ZOS has said multiple times they are okay with crown-to-gold exchanges. Gina herself has even visited our Discord channel.
Struggling to find a new class to call home. Please send help.

It’s not the same as gold selling for two important reasons. Nobody can make real world cash from selling in game gold, so it does not incentivize botting. And it does not create more gold in the game economy (like if gold were directly purchasable with crowns), all gold received for crowns comes from other players, so it does not cause gold inflation.

    It is the same.
Players who buy the gold through the sale of crown store items didn't work in-game for this gold, i.e no farming was conducted at all.
    They quite literally:
    1. Used their credit card to buy crown packs.
    2. bought the crown store items.
    3. They sold the items and received GOLD.

I don't wish to argue about this since it will go on forever.
Also, many players have agenda to let it happen since they themselves earn gold in this shady process.

i personally really like the system, as it gives my friend a use for her crowns she doesn't need, namely selling em to me for cheap. It also allows people to help others, i got a couple free dlcs for my friend that way completely by accident, I intended to pay, but they told me not to.

    Who cares?

Earn your money by killing NPC, or selling in zone chat, or buy it for crowns, or run from guild store to guild store.

Someone will always complain about what you do.

    Stick to the ToS only.

Too bad the ToS doesn't cover it.
There shouldn't be gold buying in any form whatsoever.
I can't change the rules or the ToS, if I were able to, such a shady process wouldn't have existed to begin with :)

I think the issue was that when you gifted crown crates there would be no number to let you know how many crates you were getting, so far all you know you could be paying 1m for one crate.

How is this different from people who buy gear and mats from guild traders? Or people that sell levels for gold? Or any number of transactions in game? I look at it this way. I sub to eso plus for craft bag and DLC. But what I'd I dont need the crowns? Under this system I can sell or give a dlc to someone that normally would never buy it. I cant legally convert gold irl money. I cant convert crown items to irl money. Also ZOS employee gave the go ahead as long as there are no scams...95% of all crown items are cosmetic or have counterparts in the game. So I fail to see the problem...

Gold isn't even that important and it's ultra easy to make. I literally made 500k gold overnight yesterday.

I wonder if the new maintenance announcement is related to this. Normally maintenance is posted a few days in advance, and on consoles we already had maintenance this week. Seems suspicious.

I'm honestly surprised the game wasn't taken down already. They do after all have a 6000 crown motif to sell.

This is it in a nutshell. There's no extra accumulation of gold happening - the gold is already out there in the hands of players that are game rich and real life poor - and the real life rich and game poor are scratching each others' backs for the win-win (and it's really win - win - win since ZoS also benefit).

I'm a self pro-claimed whiner, and even I don't have anything to whine about with this happening :)

Okay, let me give you a few "other game" examples of how this already happens, and you don't see it - because it's purely "part of the game".

Do you play Fifa Ultimate Team?

Okay, I buy Fifa Coins, and use those coins to open some player packs. I get some great players, but some of them I don't want, and some of them might be duplicates of player cards I already have. So ... I sell them for gold in the marketplace so I myself can have more gold to buy players I need... I'm quite literally doing what you suggested... biggest difference? Fifa then becomes P2W - whereas the Crown Store is almost exclusively aesthetics and cosmetics. You should be GRATEFUL to Zenimax for THAT.

    Same goes for Fortnite...

I buy virtual bucks, I open llamas, I get schematics and XP no-one else has. I use those weapons to trade for better items with other players. Am I selling real money to players doing that? Nope... But again, it's practically P2W which ZOS are NOT doing - again... be THANKFUL Zenimax are not doing that.

I think we need to step back and look at the bigger picture. I applaud Zenimax for what they are doing with their game lately. Quality of life in the game has gone dramatically up for me... I've even been so thankful that the blue screens and being stuck in the wailing prison with a character for 2 weeks has not even agitated me like it used to!! lol.

The entire ‘gold should not be purchasable in game’ argument is an old outdated WoW circa 2002 argument.

ZOS has just about everything available for $ that gets sunk back into the game for future developments of more things for you to spend $ on.

I don’t really understand why this is still a thing.

But then runaway inflation!!! Oh no! Then ZOS makes some motif cost 10000000000000000000000000000000^9000g as a gold sink, and back to square 1
