You never really know when they might come back & get the drop on you! They might not be AFK at all & have a stealthed group close by waiting to pounce. Best to send them back to their spawn point! :D

Though occasionally I don't immediately go for the kill. My PVP guild crown had a habit of trying to freak out players that were obviously AFK by giving orders not to attack & everyone does the /sitchair emote around the AFK player till they come back & freak out XD

If they go AFK somewhere I can get to them in PvP, absolutely. I would fully expect the same from them.

Also, there's no penalty for death in PvP, so... it's not like killing an AFKer is ruining their day or something. They just respawn when they return to their keyboard and off they go.

No, but I would kill an AFK person.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

Sometimes ill dance infront of them or hammerlow behind them but 9/10 times thats some easy ap for me.

Once i saw an hp regen build go afk though, that was fun. Practiced some dps on him (this was before the target dummies were added) and when he came back he whispered me that hes been watching me attack him while he was eating. We had a laugh, bowed and went our seperate ways. Shouldve friended that guy

Some people pretend to be afk

I pretended to be lagged out like 2 days ago. Hahaha. Like 6 people in my group lagged out and were just standing on Allesia Bridge. I stopped in place and pretended to be one of them for a few seconds.

Of course it didn’t work cause the yellow Zerg stampeded over my AFK teammates and I had no chance! Hahaha.

    Still fun to try though.

Depends. If that person is acting honorable in PvP I would not. Also, if that person I do not know or it is low lvl/low cp, I will not.
But if that person is some toxic t bagging 1337, I will kill it on sight.

I love killing groups of level 22s and shouting “but I just wanted Vigor!!!”

The guild I am in did something similar to a non afk player in the sewers. Chased him until he got in a corner and we just stood right on top of him doing then just stopped. A few hammer lows were done and eventually I think he figured we werent going to kill him so he started a retreat port, then someone bashed him and we stayed there dancing around. Eventually we walked away. I stopped just around the corner and saw him start a new retreat, ran back and bashed him, then I ran off again.

I wonder how much talvar he had standing there frozen

AFK or DC'ing? I realize it's hard to quickly tell the difference sometimes.

AFK would usually be coupled with a semi-hidden location and at least a crouch.

If it's someone I would normally engage*, probably, simply because if you don't, someone else will.

I look at it this way:
    • if they've AFK'd, their IRL circusmstance is more important than their in game life at the moment.
    • If they're DC'ing, then it's up to the RNG gods to remove them from the instance before the killing blow.

If you AFK in PvP, you kind of expect to die.

EDIT: Low level, clearly new individuals will sometimes get a pass, perhaps a single light attack, coupled with a whisper that what they're doing is a bad idea and why.

    Only in Battleground
I think it's reasonable to kill them in Battlegrounds because it's a short match so there's not really any reason to go AFK in the middle of it. Whereas in Cyrodiil or IC people might need to take a break every so often and I think it's fair enough to allow them that. Unless there's a good reason not to - like they're inside a tower you've just captured.

Although actually I've only been into Cyrodiil for skyshard hunting, and then I didn't even attack anyone, even if they killed me. (It's kinda funny, a lot of people would start, then stop and wait to see what I was doing, then either give up or carry on when I didn't react.)

Also if I went AFK in Cyrodiil I'd accept that I might be killed. I'm not going to rage to/about someone for not following my arbitrary rule.

I would, I used to play BDO and kill afk horse trainers... To watch them fly off their horse and the horse dying or the wagon blowing up while you aoe them is classic. I only wished ESO let us AFK without booting us that alone makes the game feel less of an mmorpg

Yes, because I'd probably assume that anyone just standing still in a dangerous area (not their own keep) just wants to suicide anyway.
However, I'd never kill anyone who was fishing, though.

I mostly only use Cyrodil for fishing (I just need one more fish! ONE MORE FISH! And ZOS won't give it to me!), and anyone I see is either actively in combat or also out there fishing and we leave each other alone.

But the other day I ran around finding some missing skyshards, and ended up killing a couple randoms. One wanted to pick a fight in a delve when I just wanted the skyshard, so I burned him down. All his fault.

The other was standing on top of a skyshard, looking at his map, and I waited 30 seconds, watched him do NOTHING, not move away, not stealth, just stare at a map. So I murdered him, he didn't get a shot off. I don't really feel bad, it's never wrong to kill a smurf, but he was basically AFK. But he could've killed me if I'd just gone up and got the skyshard, so it had to be done.

Kill or be killed. How do I know they are really AFK and not just playing an AFK trap waiting for me to turn my back to stab a dagger in it? I mean they’d be very patient people to do so but still could happen. Wouldn’t put it past orange team
