Crown gems, other methods of Obtaining them?

Do you guys think there should be other methods of obtaining Crown gems for people that maybe don't want to spend a lot of money on crate after crate?
Maybe put in a money cost for gems? Buy a certain amount of gems you want for a specific item?

What they need to do is make all rewards (including the radiant apex) available from gems - that way even if you have the worst rng you can eventually get that shiny mount you desire.

Gems are supposed to be for those of us with bad luck on getting what we want. A "thank you for playing" prize. NOT an independent currency.

They function alright. I bought crates once, didn't get the 1 thing I wanted, nor enough gems to buy it (damn Ancestor Moth swarm) and decided that the gambling crates wasn't for me and I would rather spend Crowns on actual things I wanted rather than a chance at things I wanted. I do enjoy free crates and save up gems from them to buy thing I haven't been lucky enough to get but - they aren't an independent currency.

If you want more gems - buy more crates!

If you want what is in a crate but don't want to buy crates...tough luck! (I lived without getting an Ancestor Moth Swarm after all!)

The entire point of the gems is to give you a 'consolation prize' for crown crate duplicates & trash, so that even if you don't get a big prize, you'll eventually be able to buy it. (and then, of course, they shot that in the foot a bit with the 'radiant apex' prizes that you can't buy. I suspect that some whales built up waaaay more crown gems at the beginning than they expected anyone to.)

Being able to get the gems outside of crown crates would defeat the entire purpose of them.

they sale expansion, they sale dlc.. they have sub model and overpriced cash shop.. especially housing and furniture.... even if there are other method acquirng them i doubt it will be easy or fast... so why not? might get me a few more crown funiture for my house

Adding more ways to get gems outside of crates would simply continue to raise the price and tank the quality of items you can get with gems. Witness recent crate seasons and the addition of unobtainable crate items. Like crowns, the more gems exist, the less Zeni lets you get with them. A handful of free gems here and there from participating in promotional events is already pretty generous.

Instead of allowing direct purchase of gems so you can buy current crate items, I’d rather see events where you can direct purchase items from retired crates with crowns, not gems, maybe a year later. That would, in my opinion, be a preferable secondary method of obtaining a crate mount without participating in crates.

As someone who doesn't purchase Crown Crates, I am already very satisfied with them allowing us to benefit from some crates through daily rewards and occasional givaways.
This said, until they rework the Crown Crates system with the ability to purchase the items indefinitely with crowns, I feel like it wouldn't be a smart move to add new ways to earn gems.

Like this, but reverse the order. Just like the elk and the dwarven spider are going in crates after they had been in the store, but for everything. Honestly, I'd rather they drop the crate system all together than think up new convoluted ways for us to earn gems.

Clearly the poll is entertainment value and I expect most understand that, However, I am surprised the poll is not heavily in favor of Zos providing ways to get them free. People tend to want more without paying for it.

people seem to have missed this post, so bringing it back, as the answer is not on the poll. ZoS already provided a way to get gems for free, by watching twitch streams with drops enabled. they are not advetizing most streams, but by checking ESO tag on twitch daily and checking the streams with most people watching (they are the ones that are most likely to have drops enabled), I've been able to get about 40 gems so far. and of course there are also various promotional crates that they give away some of the time. we have log in rewards and crates that come from those. we have a "log in and kill something once a day" promo coming up in a few days. we 3 crates you get from leveling up.

you are not going to get as many shinies as someone who actualy buys crates, but.. that is as it should be. you DO have an opportunity to get some of the rewards. you just have to make an effort to take advantage of it.

I don't find agenda polls entertaining at all. If someone can't be respectful enough to end at "Yes" or "No" then it's pretty clear the 'correct' answer was determined before the thread was posted.

It is rather irrelevant that OP designed the poll to be biased. Any forum poll is entertainment value. Worthless from a statistical valuation.

No, but I would like to be able to trade in mounts, pets & cosmetics I got through crown crates. Most of these won’t ever see the light of day..... just seems like a waste, collecting these items just isn’t for everybody. (not really a new method as we can trade in potions, scrolls and duplicates for gems)

They need support? With those prices? Yeah right, I’ve only played long enough to see one sale and it was like 20% off..sooo no they don’t need the extra support

I'm actually pretty unhappy that you can't purchase crown gems. During the recent new life festival there were some really great items placed in the crown store that I didn't see mentioned involving crown crates. But you had to have crown gems to get these items (like the nixad pet). So they've got items out there that are not in crown crates, that only people who chose to purchase crown crates in the past could get. I don't have any interest in purchasing crown crates and I don't think it's fair that there are items that I can't even pay extra money to purchase. Lots of people would have purchased the nixad pet and other items if they could have. Zenimax is shooting itself in the foot by making the items too exclusive.

You can get gems from watch scrubs like me on twitch, any old ESO linked streamer gives you gems if you link your ESO with twitch, fridays and saturdays.

just connect your twitch to your eso account, put quality of any stream of choice to 144p, mute the stream and farm some crates.

Just a question in rise of the fact that there are only 11 days before Scalecaller loot pool goes away (no more dragon priest stuff )
