Yeah, it doesn't work that way. I actually used to look at the old ad window to see what was new. Now I click off of it as fast as possible without even thinking about it. Also it annoys the hell out of me. Which is just the feeling you want to invoke from a paying customer playing your game. Right? Right.

So much this! I actually kinda liked the old ad screen since it helped me remember incoming stuff in the store (I'm not one to remember to spend money by default :p). The new one I'll use an add-on to block. And forget timed offers, thus not buying them. Too bad.

You guys really kick up a big fuss about having to press Alt when you log in. I do writs on 15 characters a day and I couldnt care less about the 15 more button presses a day. There are bigger things to complain about in this world.

Funny how every reply I get starts with how "I experience these adds". Please think about the bigger picture, ESO doesnt only revolve around what you want.

I think we can all agree, the more these adds appear to thousands of players a day, the more chance zos gets more money in the bank.

There is actually something bigger going on than some individuals not liking dem adds.

Not looking forward to this when it hits consoles. Who is in charge of this? Oversaturation kills any motivation to spend money on or even pay attention to what they are try to push on me. This was a bad move as it will surely make me despise the crown store and swear it off completely. I'm sure I'm not the only one either.

I can live with the popup, especially once the daily login rewards pop up as well, but it shouldn't reappear every single time you relog or reload the UI. Why not have it popup only the first time a day or potentially have a button "no longer show me today" or whatever?

So amused at the (very) few people who are eye-rolling and telling us this will help ZOS earn money. Will it though? Really?

Buy Summerset! kthx I have it
Preorder to get flaming mount! Yep, thanks.
Buy Morrowind! mmhmm I have that too
OMG what about Battlegrounds! see above

Switch characters and the entire process starts over, as if somehow I lost all of the above.

Once a day is MORE than enough. If they also used that entire screen to block show the different ads in one space...that would be even better since it's not intuitive enough to know what's on my account. And ESO+ should have an opt-out.

"Quit bombarding ME", "I'M playing MY preorder", "I dont think I need to reminded".

    Ok.

But the long-term implications of this are that people will be conditioned to alt out of the ad without looking; the notifications aren't based on your past purchases or interests so there's no reason to look through them. Therefore said ad is actually counterproductive to getting people into the store and spending money.

Even people that DON'T own the content will quickly get tired of the persistence (made especially awful for people who have a lot of alts) of the ad. It comes up every log-in, every day, on every character regardless of if you actually looked through it before or despite not offering anything new since last time. Again, counterproductive.

It's not about "me" or "my experience". It's about the long-term effects of such aggressive marketing, especially in a paid for game. One again, ZOS appears to be focusing on short-term flash profit, rather than extended customer satisfaction and long-term revenue from them. How many people are already installing what amounts to an ad-blocker and the update had been live less than 72 hours?

If ZOS wants people opening the crown store and spending money, annoying them incessantly is probably one of the worst ways to accomplish that goal.

Oh, I agree that it's a business model....a rather annoying one. There's such a thing as "over exposure" which then causes people to completely ignore something. Which is what I'm doing now; slam ALT and move on. I used to really like the ads when they were a couple times a week but every login of every character? That's over exposure. I can click on "announcements" or the store if I want to see what's on offer rather than the way it is now.

And no...that's not "smug". That has to do with being overly proud of one's achievements.

    Ok.

Hey, I see your point, but there's no money to be made in bombarding me with ads for stuff I already bought. If ZOS really wants to pursue this, it'd be much more effective to bombard me with ads only for stuff I haven't bought, like the Alinor house or the jewelry crafting scrolls.

But no, front and center "BUY SUMMERSET!!"

    Me: Already did. [ALT]

If ZOS won't give me the option to turn them off, I'd at least like to see the ads become more targeted. Sure players who haven't bought Morrowind or Warden ought to be able to see those ads. But players who bought the chapter already, already have those items.

    Sounds like desperation to me.

I'm a subscriber, and I know where to go to spend my crowns. I play to have fun. Push product on me with full screen ads every time I log in and you're raining on my fun. Someone didn't think this all the way through.

On a large monitor this is especially aggravating. When rotating to alts to do writs/dailies/farm/etc, seeing this stupid thing dominate my screen for several seconds while my addons load is VERY annoying! This ad is especially obnoxious on a 27 inch monitor. Kill it with fire!

Even if the full-screen sized ad was for something I didn't already own, I would just associate the product being advertised with the negative experience of logging in and having that massive, disruptive ad in my face. Also talk about immersion breaking! From what I heard, customers associating products with negative feelings and experiences is bad for sales.

We play ESO on computers with monitors, not a tiny 4-inch phone display that one would use for a *** mobile game! There is no need for a full-page ad! Although at this point it's becoming hard to distinguish between ESO and a *** mobile game when it comes to the Crown store.

It's Ok if they lock these threads. If it makes teh mods work, word should get back to ZOS that people are this unhappy with it.

I personally find it just fatiguing. I have 15 toons, and have to cycle through many of them each day for research, riding lessons, writs and inventory management. It'd be one thing is the ad was scheduled to appear once a day, but as is, it pops up every time you log onto a character. It's fatiguin af to see it over and over. I do not care that it takes one keysroke to make it go away. It is visual stimulus intended to provoke an psychological response and make you think about the Crown Store and whatever else ZOS is selling. That is what makes seeing over and over so fatiguing.

Add this with their plans to add log-in rewards and you see that they want to force you see these ads as much as possible. It's a very aggressive advertising campaign targeting players who already paid for this game. And since I've already paid for the base game, the expansions and the sub, I f***ing resent the f*** out of being treated like a captive audience like this.

Because hitting "alt" is hard. But seriously. ONCE a day/account would be acceptable. (I assume they will use this as the login rewards screen).

Not that it is hard, but being distracted for that split second can mean the difference. Really good explanation. I don't see why you try to demean his example.
