Let's see if we can follow the timeline for this one:
- ZOS introduces large, intrusive continuously recurring advertisement.
- Community posts about how much they hate it but can use add-ons to circumvent it.
- ZOS says that they are looking into changing the behavior in the future.
- ZOS releases a patch that contains no change in behaviour.
- A person notices that after the patch the add-on that removed the marketing message now breaks the game.
Dear Azura but I hope that this is just an example of a massive coincidence.
On the other hand if ZOS amends the TOS to include "Add-ons that modify or exlude marketing information" as a bannable offense then I guess we'll know.

what happens when i enable no, thank you and login it makes the mail notification sound every second and i can see in the chat window my notifications are climbing and it gets to well above 1500 within just a couple seconds, with what i am assuming are error messages from the mod but i cant really tell because my framerate tanks from 100 fps to a 7 fps unplayable slideshow and even navigating the menus is unbearable. all i did on that mod was disable the marketing announcements
it was working fine for me until i had to install a patch the other day. now it breaks my game into an unplayable state. but if i disable the addon everything goes back to normal. i did nothing at all with my computer since then, so common sense tells me its an issue with the game
i'm just wondering if its happening to anyone else? im on windows 8.1 if it makes any difference. i could capture a video of this with nvidia shadowplay if anyone cares to see what this is actually doing. its absolutely ridiculous but i would like to think this is just a total coincidence and maybe just maybe its something wrong with my pc setup, rather than zos purposely going out of their way to block off this addon because they want to shove advertisements in our face for things we arent interested in at a last ditch effort to try to haul in the cheddar.
but im beyond frustrated with it. i dont feel that i deserve to be spammed 10 times in a couple minutes just to collect off my hirelings. i installed an addon to take care of that and it was fine for a week but now the game becomes an unplayable slideshow for me because now i go to sign in to any character and it seems to want to just bombard me with infinite notification messages faster than my computer even wants to process them (im assuming error messages) that i cant even see. but the moment i disable it, the game is fine but now im getting spammed again.

This sheeple mentality is exactly what they are banking on. If you're exposed to it enough, your conscious mind will tune it out, but it will constantly be at the forefront of the subconscious. It's the Tamrielic version of They Live. "Obey.... buy.... consume!" Well, I came here to kick ass and smoke skooma.... and I'm all out of skooma!

ZOS is a business. They need to make money. One clicky upon login about Crown Store offerings isn't game breaking. Chances are you click about 100x more than this in one Stamblade rotation.
It is not unethical or unheard of for a company to have some self promotion in their content. The amount of complaining in this thread borders on the absurd. Get over it.

closing the window isnt a big issue. its the whole principle of the matter here.
do you really think u need to be constantly bombarded with ads reminding you to preorder summerset (especially after you've already bought it), or crown store spam trying to get you to mosey on over there and gamble your money away on loot box scams or try to get you to throw down the price of another AAA game on steam on a virtual mount or a virtual house instead?
this kind of filth belongs in a "free to play" game on android, right next to candy crush and all the rest of those games designed for your 10 year old daughter who has no concept of the value of money to go and drain daddies bank account while he is at work. i wouldnt expect to find these kind of antics in a game ive paid full price to buy, as well as bought all the DLC and paid for subscriptions. gtfo.
whats next? 30 second crown store commercials during loading screens? that's about when i'll be ready to peace out for good.
i don't know who was the marketing masterminds behind implementing this nuisance spam into the game, as well as infecting our computers with RedShell spyware, but they should probably go work in a different field.

They are making money,
Also many of those objecting have the content that is being rammed into our faces, & probably ESO+ as well
The advertising should be being about getting non-players to buy the game etc
not every time I log onto a character, and for some that will be 30 or more changes in 2 short sessions as they do writs & collect the hireling mail, then later collecting the 2nd round of mail.
This is a AAA game not a f2p piece of shovelware but atm it is looking more like that shovelware & the longer it goes on the fewer are going to want to see this or put money into it

The advertising needs to be both external (To attract new players) and internal (To get existing customers to spend more money). That's how any sensible business works.
This is free advertising for them. It makes perfect business sense for them to post up this ad upon login. It makes no difference whether they are an AAA game or a F2P game... They absolutely should be advertising their Crown Store offerings to us.
We do not stand on some incredible high moral high ground that puts us above having to deal with some VERY MINOR advertising. Your fingers will not break from one additional click.

The crown store is not intended to be intrusive. We do not direct the player to it or pop it up in front of you when you run out of potions.
Its just there when you want it.
