It's astonishing how poorly implemented this is. If it at least was a good ad, I could get why ZOS is doing it - but they rolled it out in an almost completely useless state, forcing many of us to block the ad outright. I doubt they'll ever get back most of these customers, if any at all. They might have already fixed it and I wouldn't know.
We voiced our displeasure about the intrusiveness of the ad when it was on the test server, but they went ahead and implemented it anyway. So basically it was a situation of 'we don't care what you want this what you're getting.' For this reason alone, it's safe to say they aren't listening now, either. Maybe when they see the bottom line drop from so many tuning it out they will revisit it, but don't expect it to be anytime soon.
Worse than did nothing. In typical ZOS fashion they also said nothing. Gina's response in this thread came about 7 weeks after we first commented on it on the PTS.
Another unfortunate circumstance of this is that the CS reps like Gina and the others had nothing to do with the marketing decision, yet they have to bear the brunt of the ire, since they are the face of the company. I hate that they have to be caught in the crossfire, so to speak.

ZOS is a business. They need to make money. One clicky upon login about Crown Store offerings isn't game breaking. Chances are you click about 100x more than this in one Stamblade rotation.
It is not unethical or unheard of for a company to have some self promotion in their content. The amount of complaining in this thread borders on the absurd. Get over it.
They are making money,
Also many of those objecting have the content that is being rammed into our faces, & probably ESO+ as well
The advertising should be being about getting non-players to buy the game etc
not every time I log onto a character, and for some that will be 30 or more changes in 2 short sessions as they do writs & collect the hireling mail, then later collecting the 2nd round of mail.
This is a AAA game not a f2p piece of shovelware but atm it is looking more like that shovelware & the longer it goes on the fewer are going to want to see this or put money into it
The advertising needs to be both external (To attract new players) and internal (To get existing customers to spend more money). That's how any sensible business works.
This is free advertising for them. It makes perfect business sense for them to post up this ad upon login. It makes no difference whether they are an AAA game or a F2P game... They absolutely should be advertising their Crown Store offerings to us.
We do not stand on some incredible high moral high ground that puts us above having to deal with some VERY MINOR advertising. Your fingers will not break from one additional click.
Really? Interesting. There are people who disagree with you, until recently that seemed to include ZOS themselves...ZOS_Ridout wrote:I can get a part of this.
The crown store is not intended to be intrusive. We do not direct the player to it or pop it up in front of you when you run out of potions.
Its just there when you want it.
How about we stand on the moral high-ground of expecting ZOS to stick to their previous statements?
They are sticking to their words... it's not intrusive and it doesn't pop in front of you when you run out of potions.
This complaint is just another example of how the outrage generation complains about anything and everything.
First, what is the "Outrage Generation"? I remember Nixon as President and I'm complaining about this.
Second, this does not " makes perfect business sense".
A successful marketing ad is to get new/ potential customers to see your product and convince them to buy it.
This new ad ZoS forces down our throat at EACH log in is doing the opposite,
ZoS is losing possible sales as those potintioal customers are just clicking out instead of viewing it.
I know I would use the old ad and maybe see something that is going away and buy it, now, I have no idea as I don't even read it now.
This is just bad "business sense".

So you'd be ok with it if it only contained stuff you didnt have?

What is your source that ZOS is losing sales? Forums complaints?
I have bought things I didn't realize were on sale because these ads. I am guessing others have as well. From my perspective, they're working as intended.
Perhaps I am not so easily triggered as others on these forums, but I maintain my position that alot of the complaints on this topic are bordering on the absurd.

Makes the game look cheap, or is it cheap? maybe I thought that I've been playing the most elegant mmo out there and I was wrong.

I remember Lord of the Rings Online going down the drain when Turbine decided to plaster their ads all over Middle-Earth. They made my favorite fantasy realm look like a cheap marketing drive-through with Elves.
I don't want to see this happen to my second-favorite fantasy realm now.
Yes, for people who pride themselves in their ability to time their multiple clicks in every fight, the horror at one more click per character login is amusing, but actually it isn't, because it really does become tiresome when doing dailies and does make immersion a shallower experience. Just once at login for goodness sake. Remember goodness?
And I know this kind of advertising is supposed to wear people's resistance to purchases down, but in this case it's just going to wear down their will to keep playing. It's your own arrow to the knee.
How many DEV hours would it take to remove this, or evn do what they claimed they are going to do, yet 2 weeks on there have been no change
Clearly we can see the intent here!
(Some marketing guru is hoping we'll all go away so they only have the compliant ones left)

From an extreme sales and marketing perspective if all the people that like to play the game go away and leave behind just the ones who are here to shop and walk around showing each other just how cool they look, they'd be ecstatic. Just think of all the development they would no longer have to do!

If they make good on getting rid of it/toning it down they probably won't bother until the next DLC release at the earliest. That seems to be their usual schedule for anything that isn't actively game-breaking.

Preventing this sort of scenario is one of the main reasons I'm still here. Because odds are good every cash shop malady that infects ESO will eventually contaminate ES6...
