So basically everyone will start leaving their computers/phones on while they're away in order to qualify for these. And of course to create false numbers of viewers and hours watched no doubt. I seriously don't think this is a good idea.
People already did this on twitch, for virtually every consistent streamer there is. Before I left for work I left my computer on with 5 streams open, 3 from twitch 2 from mixer.
But.... why?
I have yet to understand the whole concept of Twitching. I mean if you like a game enough that you go and watch someone else play it, why not make the best of that free time and oh I don't know, go play said game yourself?
If it's for watching a guide on something, I'm sure YouTube does a better job than having to sit from *specific hour* to *specific hour* to watch someone do it.
If people leave their PCs on pretending to watch someone/something just to create fake views and fake publicity fees.... that is just sad.

You have to buy something first, and then you get a crate, which contains the usual crown crate trash, and can't contain anything except that, and a 0.001% chance of getting a re-skinned senche mount or pet.
Disgusting. When I got the email I actually logged into my account and got ready to link my twitch and then I read the details on what you can get... and then realised what a scam this is.

Read the print, you have a chance if you watch streams

Not sure why people think they're getting free stuff? Ummm you have to buy something through the twitch store to get the crate? As shown here: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/news/post/26399

Because rewarding players for actually playing the game is infinitely better than leeching off someone's stream by running it in the background.Weird how a incentive to popularize eso through streaming has gotten the community against it even though they can support the game by watching our streamers and also get free stuff

Here is the thing.....I pretty sure they don't, not really. I have seen people make these over the top rage posts before then laugh about it because it got the forums in such a stir.
Playing the forums for some people is more fun than any game ever could be....yeah It's pretty warped but again indicative of the culture.

At the same time though remember that there are still many who do take this seriously. Even if it's "just pixels", some people still care about principles and ethics, myself included.

Ethics in this whole kerfuffle depends largely on ones authoritative base and point of view.......my whole point throughout all of this is the perpetually outraged forum user pushing the ludicrous straw-man of "I disagree with you ergo you are evil."
It's the exact same nonsense that the PAWS cult pushes, when they are harassing people in game who are riding legendary Apex mounts. "You opened a crate, you are supporting what I perceive as evil ergo you are evil" I actually had a very well known community member say those exact words to me.
That is a very dangerous path, and is going to lead to some heavy real world consequences sooner or later, I say that as someone who has seen and dealt with harassment fallout on a legal corporate level. There is only so long that a company that is ran by attorneys can ignore a situation that is about to blow up in their faces.
The great thing about a free market economy is that folks can vote with their wallets, that is ethical; what is insidious is when those people attempt to social engineer by harassment the outcome that they desire.
That has been what's been going on, and so far Zenimax has turned a blind eye, but it can't be that way forever.
@ZOS_RichLambert if ever a there was a time to /lurk now is it.
