Kind of like how the only people I know that got Worm Cult books during the event are those with 8 digit bank accounts (in-game) and could just buy chapters without a sweat?

couple of my guilds actualy did several trade times where people circumvented RNG by trading what they go for what they still needed with other guild members. heck its the reason why I have a full wormcult collection. I had to trade for several of the pages i couldn't get to drop and even this much, with all the dailies I did, wouldn't have happened if not for an extra week of the event. but... didn't need to have gigantic in game bank account. just needed to be friendly enough to be a part of a guild that is into this whole cooperation among players thing.

that said... twitch crates sound.. like something i'll probably end up not participating in, unless incidentally while watching ESO live or something. I do have twitch and I linked it up, but.. the rng sounds like its going to be abysmal and i have exactly zero interest in crown consumables.

So basically everyone will start leaving their computers/phones on while they're away in order to qualify for these. And of course to create false numbers of viewers and hours watched no doubt. I seriously don't think this is a good idea.

People already did this on twitch, for virtually every consistent streamer there is. Before I left for work I left my computer on with 5 streams open, 3 from twitch 2 from mixer.

    But.... why?

I have yet to understand the whole concept of Twitching. I mean if you like a game enough that you go and watch someone else play it, why not make the best of that free time and oh I don't know, go play said game yourself?

If it's for watching a guide on something, I'm sure YouTube does a better job than having to sit from *specific hour* to *specific hour* to watch someone do it.

If people leave their PCs on pretending to watch someone/something just to create fake views and fake publicity fees.... that is just sad.

95% of them time when I'm in game, I have someone's stream open. Whether I'm moderating or just a viewer, I'm almost always watching a stream while I play. Some people listen to music, some the game sounds, I like listening and participating in streams. Hell, some people have movies or tv shows on while they play.

Hang on a moment there’s people moaning about ZoS giving people free stuff by doing something as easy as linking an account then opening a spare tab on your computer which you don’t even have to watch.

I watch lots of streamers while playing. So it’s win win for me.

This move by ZoS is so laughable... wow link your twitch and get... nothing. Literally nothing. You have to buy something first, and then you get a crate, which contains the usual crown crate trash, and can't contain anything except that, and a 0.001% chance of getting a re-skinned senche mount or pet.

Not sure why people think they're getting free stuff? Ummm you have to buy something through the twitch store to get the crate? As shown here: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/news/post/26399

Disgusting. When I got the email I actually logged into my account and got ready to link my twitch and then I read the details on what you can get... and then realised what a scam this is.

I get what ZOS is trying to do here. I just dont think it will work, at least on any significant scale that they might be hoping for. Theres just not enough incentive here to draw people to watch others play ESO. If you go on Twitch right now the number of players playing the game and the number of viewers is pathetically sad and its been that way all along. And ZOS over the last few years has done very little to drive and promote their community to engage in viewing the game on Twitch. Im not convinced the negativity surrounding lootboxes in gaming overall or the building anger and resentment here on the forums will negatively impact this incentive.

I just dont think the interest in viewing the game on Twitch exists here and making these things RNG will not drive people to the platform. Giving the rewards away without any RNG involved would have had a better chance of driving viewership but even that would not have changed the behavior here in any significant way.

Hahaha are you kidding? That's probably like a 0.00000001% chance to win! XD And even if you do win, what are you gonna get? A crate? With a 0.00000001% chance to get the mount or pet, but most likely get more poisons and other trash? lololol what a joke.

My eyes glazed over halway through the second paragraph so I am clearly not the intended audience for this move. All the streamers I've seen react to this seem really happy about it, so I'll just be happy for them.

As long as the game doesn't display a numerical indicator of possible vs owned [cosmetic upgrade] and as long as this senche doesn't show up greyed out in the collections window, I'm fine with this. (We completionists always get ?*#!ed over in any MMO, eventually. It is written. )

Personally think the concept is no big deal. No less stupid than buying a crown crate outright. But the contents of these crates......consumables and some rarer mounts and pets...... with no option to buy with gems? I dont care for such a thing. The gems idea was crown crates only redeemable quality when released and ZO$ is edging away from it with these no direct purchase collectables
  • Adernath

Nothing against some giveaways by viewing a stream, but to create an exclusively mount and link it to purchases through a third party site is a bad move, really. So we are moving further down the road of cheap money grabs utilizing the disgusting crate gambling mechanic. Another rare mount which is obtainable primarily by purchases through a lottery system. Anyone who is sitting on such a mount must truly be ashamed by throwing out so much money into an RNG gambling system. He had luck by viewing the stream? Who believes this? Who cares? Its just not representing anything of worth or accomplishment in-game.

Look ZoS, I want to support the game by purchasing something from time to time, but by honest payments via the store and actual DLC in which we can earn things by playing the game. But flooding the game with otherwise unobtainable shiny gimmicks based on a gambling mechanic is making the entire game look cheap, like it is in a desperate state to earn money, therefore not a healthy MMO. I am really concerned with these crates, they are a big mistake since they were introduced. These monetization tactics are used by B MMOs and not worthy of the Elder Scrolls franchise. You wanted to make many things better than previous MMOs, but in regards of monetization you fall way behind. Get this right please!

Looks like ZOS wants a better presence on twitch. You want more twitch views ZOS? Do you know what gets twitch views?

    PvP

You have some very strong PvP twitch streamers but your neglect of PvP has pushed them to other games. People want to watch dynamic PvP content on twitch. Bribing people with crown crates is not going to elevate your twitch status. Actually fixing PvP back to where it could support 'hundreds" of players on screen at the same time, (like it did at launch), will increase your views.

So you put a new mount and pet, as an extremely rare RNG drop, in a RNG Crate that only contains them and random crap, that is itself a RNG drop from an RNG crate, that you maybe get from buying stuff outside of the game or doing stuff other than playing the game...

Excuse me, but is your intent to turn Tamriel into a meta-casino? What's next? Twitch-exlusive outfit pages? Crates that you maybe get for watching an ad in-game, crappy-mobile-game-style? Where does this stop?

You know what you'll get with this? (And what I hope you will get, because at this point, you need sanction from the playerbase...) You'll get collectors who can't by any objectivly feasible way keep their collections complete, and who thus stop spending altogether in your game.

Maybe if it were a small guaranteed mudcrab pet or something... but no, it's an awesome mount that's only available by RNG only if you take part in this thing completely outside the game only if you're able to with practicality concerns.

Its almost as if ZOS doesnt know what to do with or how to engage that side of their demographic. Instead of making the experience enticing and welcoming they have to insert the only thing they know into it. RNG.

You have a very small presence on one of the biggest and growing gaming streaming services out there. The only time you have large numbers popping on the platform is during ESO Lives and large Chapter announcements (which means there is a larger presence there that is most certainly engaged and interested in your product). So what do you do to call attention to your product and entice that larger presence to engage with the product on this platform regularly? Release a crate system that can only be engaged by 1/3rd of your population, add an absymal drop rate for a mount and pet you cant get elsewhere because surely players in game will flock to Twitch once they see these things. And finally add mostly junk to the box so it leaves a bad taste in players mouths after theyre done handing away their personal data and going outside of the more streamlined and direct route for purchasing things in game. Surely this will drive interest in ESO on Twitch on a regular basis!

Ethics in this whole kerfuffle depends largely on ones authoritative base and point of view.......my whole point throughout all of this is the perpetually outraged forum user pushing the ludicrous straw-man of "I disagree with you ergo you are evil."

It's the exact same nonsense that the PAWS cult pushes when they are harassing people in game who are riding Radiant Apex mounts. "You opened a crate, you are supporting (what they perceive as) evil ergo you are evil" I actually had a very well known community member say those exact words to me.

That is a very dangerous path, and is going to lead to some heavy real world consequences sooner or later, I say that as someone who has seen and dealt with harassment fallout on a legal corporate level. There is only so long that a company that is ran by attorneys can ignore a situation that is about to blow up in their faces.

The great thing about a free market economy is that folks can vote with their wallets, that is ethical; what is insidious is when those people attempt to social engineer by harassment the outcome that they desire.
