Twitch crown crates?

This community needs to get over itself. Twitch drop stuff does well for a lot of games as a form of advertisement and community building.

Things are getting kind of weird around here.

What is next crown crate scratch offs on bags of Doritos?

I guess I will never understand the concept of being rewarded to watch someone play a game I own, rather than enticing me to just spend my time playing the game myself. How does me spending my free time watching a streamer play the game, instead of spending that time playing the game myself, help the game maker?

I mean, I know it is a thing. My nephew will watch others play a game for hours but has zero interest playing the game himself. It’s just odd.

Aside from the fact that the Twitch drops will be... crown crates (seriously?), I fail to see the big problem some people discovered in this harmless collaboration.

Plenty of games do it, it's always cosmetic stuff, but unlike what we have here, you usually have to get Prime - something many people have absolutely no interest in. Here, all of us, except console players (probably to blame on Sony and Microsoft as usual), get a chance to (get a chance) to get some free stuff.

Twitch can have a positive influence on TESO's population and nobody is being forced into anything here. You want to pay? Pay! You don't want to pay? Great, you can tune in for free! You don't want to do anything? That's cool, none of the rewards are p2w or must-have!

It is a real shame that we are talking about crown crates though, especially right now when so many people are fed up with them. Instead of having your fanbase going "Wow, Zeni, it's so cool that you care about us and that you're giving us free things!" you have it going "Oh god, Zeni, what is it now? More milking? Where is the catch? Stop the RNG and stop putting lazy senche reskins into crown crates!" And they all have a point. And I hope that maybe, just maybe, you guys will listen and will eventually change something.

Millions of people watch other people play sports when they could be playing the sports themselves instead. How is this any different?

Maybe you learn something new by watching someone's stream. Maybe a casual player is given the opportunity to see what meta game looks like. Maybe you just like hanging out on a stream with like minded people. Maybe you don't have access to the game 24/7 and want to fill in the gaps with other people's streams. Maybe you just like the background noise.

Having more streamers streaming your game is more publicity.

I already play 8 hrs a day. No way I’m gonna start watching eso on twitch for a “chance” to “win” a specific crown crate. No thanks.

If they really feel this is going to boost their twitch viewers, and have people buy crowns through twitch, I’m sorry but I believe they’re sadly mistaken.

Also, only making these “winnable” isn’t helping. People should get 1 for each stream at least.

The whole concept is just ridiculous.
Open a stream in a browser tab, mute the browser tab (not the stream), it thinks you're watching, go about your day playing ESO.
Unless some how this doesn't work?

As a Twitch regular I like the sound of this. Plus at the end of the day it’s just cosmetics.
Sadly cosmetics are a big part of what people enjoy about games and more and more of them are being moved to requiring money or doing tasks which are not actually playing the game.

I have to ask Turelus and no offense...but is crying about the business model incessantly like a prerequisite of being a Community Ambassador? I ask because it seems to me like that is yours and Santies MO (Well that and getting death threats in game by paws members for the high crime of riding a Legendary apex mount) Not trying to be inflammatory here...it's a serious question, because Ambassador means representative....and very little you say represents me or anyone in my guild for that matter.
Ambassadors are ambassadors because they're recognised for being helpful members of the community. We can also take community issues to the community team a little faster, however our opinions are always our own.

For example im normally called a ZOS endorsed troll, ZOS paid White Knight etc. because I debate with people in defence of ZOS.

I just speak my opinions on issues as I always have done. I don't claim to represent anyone else's view unless they've expressed that to me.

IB4 someone links a quote of me where I did that at some point.

@Turelus We have had it out, and I must say there have been times I have said those very words about your Knighthood, with that said, I appreciate that your title doesn't necessarily mean you will just toe the line when it comes to Zo$' business practices and I respect you more now than ever. You are a fine ambassador of the community ( most of the time)

Look. We all know how to get more Twitch viewer. A pleasant looking lady with a low cut top, PVPing Drake in Cyrodill, with the occasional politcal or race based inflammatory comment on the sidebar. It’s not really rocket science.

That or get Kim Jong Un to PVP battle Trump. That’d get some hits.

I'm confused why Zos didnt take the route that Epic games has with Fortnite. Just by having twitch prime you get free loot. No chance of getting it in a loot box, it is freely given. That's incentive. By locking it behind PC and loot boxes you exclude a huge console community. I personally would have paid $50 in crowns just to have the mount it self on ps4. Huge disappointment.

Because matching a twitch Prime loot doesn't give incentive to be in a stream, just to have twitch Prime.

I understand that but the reason I started watching twitch and eventually subscribed to twitch prime was for the free loot. Eso is locking collectibles behind a crate system instead of rewarding players for tuning in to the eso community. If they gave the mounts and other collectables away for subscribers they would not only grow their game but also mass interest in it. Over 100 thousand people watch Ninja daily me included. With locking it behind RNG I will not participate.

    Twitch?

What the hell is that? Can't be a good thing, generally if you have a twitch you should get that checked out by a doctor.

So am i right this is where you go to watch other people play video games?

Like when you were a kid at the arcade waiting for your turn to play galaga?

    Ummm stuff… about stuff…or something.

I'm still too confused on how this works and why it's being done to comment . How long do people have to watch twitch ? Is it random while watching twirch ? Is it any twitch Eso or just certain partners ?

Around a year ago or maybe longer, Twitch introduced "drops". Basically on games that were enabled, folks who had their twitch accounts linked to their xGame account would randomly receive a "drop" from twitch that had some sort of item they could use in game. The closest related example of this is free card/gem packs for TES Legends.

ESO streamers and ESO Twitch viewers have been asking for this to happen with ESO since Twitch launched the program.

These require nothing but linking your game account to a twitch account and watching a stream that is listed in the ESO directory. They drop at random with no interaction from you other than being present in the stream.

These crates mentioned are slightly different as they will be given to you by buying ESO related products through the Twitch digital store. The link is that sometimes the drops you get from simply being in the stream, might contain one of these crates.

People complaining about free stuff that you don't have to participate in?

I'll take a free chance to win a pretty mount when I watch the ESO livestreems (which I surely expect to be included) on twitch. I'll also take a free one when I renew my eso plus.

I'll save my complaints for bad decisions on balancing, scaling, and things that actually effect my fun in a negative way.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

If they would just lower the prices of ESO store, people like myself will spend a lot... but right now... a crown special of only 20%, a motif at 5k crowns and a house at 15k.... ABSURD!!! An insult to us paying customers... So i wont be buying anything excet expansions.

Free stuff? Can you read? Each time you BUY something you get the crate 100% chance. Guess who is gonna walk around with the mount. Someone who won 1 crate watching stream or someone making 10 purchases?

Pretty simple: ZOS has our money. They now want to use us to boost Twitch ratings for ESO to get that new money. As a Revenue Analyst, I agree with their marketing methods. But.... why?

I have yet to understand the whole concept of Twitching. I mean if you like a game enough that you go and watch someone else play it, why not make the best of that free time and oh I don't know, go play said game yourself?

If it's for watching a guide on something, I'm sure YouTube does a better job than having to sit from *specific hour* to *specific hour* to watch someone do it.

If people leave their PCs on pretending to watch someone/something just to create fake views and fake publicity fees.... that is just sad.

I don't see why you guys are whining. You don't want to make a twitch account and take part? Don't do it. No one is putting a gun to your head to do it.

But this move could also lead to a bigger influx of people joining the eso community if ESO scales up the twitch ladder and becomes more visible.

What's good about this? More people means more money which ZoS can invest back into the game.

As I said, you don't like it, don't participate. Crown crates are purely cosmetic anyway and hardly have any influence on the gaming experience. When crown crates genuinely becomes p2w that's when complaining is warranted.
