Here is where you draw the line? Why? What's wrong with promoting the game through Twitch and giving away free stuff?

I'm failing to see people's objection to this.

Nothing's wrong with promoting the game through twitch but to have a reward system based on being online 24/7 or on your phone 24/7 just defeats the purpose of advertisement tbh.

I watch the ESO channel anyway so...I lose nothing by linking my account even if it is RNG.
Actually, you lose quite a bit, but don't feel bad. Most people don't understand what's going on behind the scenes.

Since Adam isn't here, I'll temporarily call this "Violynne Ruins This Deal".

Let's jump into a DeLorean and travel back to 2017. Okay, we could have walked, but regardless, we're here.

Remember the huge and angry feedback of players complaining to ZoS they shouldn't have to sell their soul to play the game?

You might better remember it as the update to the ToS which allows ZoS to give away your email address.

What people didn't see was that ZoS is also allowed to give away your data.

"But wait! ZoS said they would never give out personal data!"

You believed that? Oh, I guess you did.

What ZoS stated is PR speak for "We're going to screw you", because giving out generic information isn't defined as "personal", so what ZoS sends is this:
youremailaddress@somewhere.com is a 14yr old girl from the midwest.

Note the lack of anything personal. This is called "anonymized" data, and it's actually much more personal than you'll ever realize.

Once Twitch gets this inf, er, now that Twitch has this information, when users link up their accounts, Twitch will forward this information, along with 3rd party information they purchased, to link up to advertisers to that soon, your inbox/ads will be displayed for a 14 year old girl living in the midwest.

Twitch will bank the ad revenue, give ZoS a cut, and you get to wonder why your information is hacked in about a year from now.

Under no circumstances should anyone link their ESO account to any account not exclusive to ZeniMax.

    That's advice many will ignore.

If they really feel this is going to boost their twitch viewers, and have people buy crowns through twitch, I’m sorry but I believe they’re sadly mistaken.

Also, only making these “winnable” isn’t helping. People should get 1 for each stream at least.

The whole concept is just ridiculous.
Open a stream in a browser tab, mute the browser tab (not the stream), it thinks you're watching, go about your day playing ESO.

I can only give my perception of things.....

These days anything that is monetized is automatically evil, I find it silly, yet some folks get homicidal rage if something isn't given to them for free and right now.

That outrage however doesn't seem to have cut into Zenimax's profits though (Considering their equity is up from 2.1 billion to 3.2 Billion from last year and their employee number has grown to just over 1500 people ) which means that their business model is working phenomenally, despite 15-20 perpetually outraged posters.

The hard truth is that ESO is a wildly popular MMO, and it really doesn't have much competition on the horizon, and the business model isn't changing anytime soon, and all tantrums in the world isn't going to change that

Nope the harassment is quite real, my guilds GM had a really eye opening youtube video on it that unfortunately got pulled because the threats showed were so graphic, personally Iv'e only had two idiots following me around shouting paws slogans and threatening me....but I know of a few folks who have actually left the game over it.

Yes it silly and pathetic, and I'm not really sure what Zenimax could do about it, but it does represent just how toxic the community is.

You act as though these rewards are obligatory. If you don't want to spend 24/7 on Twitch then don't. I personally may just have it playing in the background while I'm on ESO in the evening, if I think about it.

The way I see it this is a win for streamers, a win for ZOS, and a win for players who watch streams.

Actually, I find it a great move. I hope this is a move to improve ESO viewer numbers on twitch, and if it works ZOS would be getting not only more viewers on twitch, but more new players.

And I am not giving a damn for these "exclusive" crates for sure. I just hope that there will be more players to play with

Don't worry, they will end up in a rebroadcast stream that will always be at the top of ESO streams listed in Twitch.

Btw, you might want to get more info before concluding that. I never bothered with Twitch before ESL drops, but I am an active regular participant in streams now. I also never bothered using my Amazon prime sub before drops.

I'm confused why Zos didnt take the route that Epic games has with Fortnite. Just by having twitch prime you get free loot. No chance of getting it in a loot box, it is freely given. That's incentive. By locking it behind PC and loot boxes you exclude a huge console community. I personally would have paid $50 in crowns just to have the mount it self on ps4. Huge disappointment.

Honestly, I think that sounds great. You know the crates are only there to give you crown gems, allowing you to buy things you would otherwise get scammed for for free. You don't have to watch the streams either, since you can just have them running in the background.

I think the PC/Mac exclusivity is only for purchasing the game itself, although I could be wrong. The wording was vague enough to include just the game copy or every reward from twitch. It may also be clarified elsewhere.

I have a question, as I am super new to linking Twitch accounts. I have a linked Critical Role account which is providing me real benefits, most especially access to the very nice Geek & Sundry Discord community. It also gives me the option of posting in CR Twitch chat, relevant for the weekly giveaways. I have that link courtesy of Amazon prime rather than direct sub to G&S. My understanding is that I can choose ONE twitch channel a month to link via Prime.

So if I were to link my ESO account to my Twitch, would I lose my G&S link? (Corollary, which only ZoS folks can answer as of yet, will the ESO Live channel be one of the approved streams? I shan't be watching any other ESO streaming anyway, so this is all moot if the Bethesda channel isn't linked into the Twitch loot).

I see people saying they'll just afk stream. But the article says the drops are only at the stream end, not during. Is there a counter for how long you've actually been watching, or could people simply join in a minute before the end to get their drops? I see others talking about getting drops during the streams, but the article suggests that isn't a thing. Which is accurate?

Because matching a twitch Prime loot doesn't give incentive to be in a stream, just to have twitch Prime.
