Does anyone get annoyed that your hard earned gear becomes obsolete patch after patch?

This game is the least grindy MMO I have ever played no weekly lock outs on raids, transmute gear level stays the same always...I cant understand any complaining here

Oh, the young ones are just adorable! This game completely lacks a vertical gear grind. Most MMO's have it in one form or another, and what little there IS here is mostly due to the youtube video of the month by build maven X, and people all scrambling to grab the new "meta" that will allegedly give them 1/4 of 1% extra dps compared to their old build.

Let me tell you a story about another world called "Norrath" that had 10 expansions in 5 years, and every time you had a new expansion you were forced to regear, because the old gear would be completely obsolete. Not the way it is here, where you COULD wear the old gear and still do fine, but as in "wear this in new top content and you will die".

The best thing about ESO is that once you hit cp 160, you no longer have to regear. At that point its all because you want that extra 1 to 2% (and usually thats about it) increase in your abilities. I know a LOT of people who churn out top end dps in gear that predates Morrowind. Other games that just DOES NOT happen.
The opinions of others should always be heard, especially if they dont agree with your own! But you always reserve the right to laugh at them.

As the title says, we grind and farm for gear, make a build for high level content, next update the gear is made obsolete, been nerfed or is just out performed in the "meta"
it's like a merry go round of farming, grinding over and over.

I feel sorry for all the stam DDs farming sunder, or spending mats creating NMG for it to be trash next patch (nerf), pretty much the same for SPC from what I have been told (new trial gear outperforms it)

SPC have been BIS for healers since september 2015, I'm sure many of them will be happy to have another choice now.

And for good reason. You can't expect people to continue playing a game for years on end with no changes or challenges in terms of advancement of both character and gear.

Which is one of the reasons the MMORPG genre is in the state it is in and has been rather left behind, they rely on this too much as a substitute for good gameplay, it also really isn't a challenge, it is just grind.

Nope because gear is easier to obtain than many mmos.

What would be more annoying is gear lvl increases that are frequent... i.e... 160 to 180 to 200... that would kill the game imo.

Thats not true at all, SPC can hit anyone wherever they are, and can be applied without any thought with mutagen. The new set only hits a very small aoe, meaning that unless the group is very tightly stacked they will have to move through it to get the buff. Both sets will still have uses.

In particular SPC will still be better in AS, where the group cant stack very tightly.
With jewelry crafting I'll be able to exit the grind for good.

Out of the frying pan and into the flame, lol

SPC can be applied using syphon... i do this as kiter healer.

nubs crying. Stamina was overperforming in trials due too nmg and sunder. Finally it got nerfed!

SPC will not be replaced, as the new trial set gives the SAME buff as SPC, and for 99% of people SPC will be easier to get, and easier to use!

Acuity was overperforming and needed a nerf?

Now tell me again how the gear changes are bad please?

Am I missing something? Won't gear cap still be 160? why would our gear be useless?
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

Yes, my mag NB gear will be very obsolete since staves will count as 2 item pieces and after the patch I'll be wearing 6 Amber Plasm set pieces.

    How to fix this?

Because someone on one of the forums, or Random_Youtuber_X, told him it was.

Am I the only one that actually wants the gear level to go up? Its been 160 for years. and honestly I'm sick of seeing rubedite and ancestor silk.

The gear grind doesn't bother me because like a lot of people I don't chase meta. I do a lot of unusual builds and I'm picked last for trials and such but I have a ton of fun and can hold my own. A gear level increase would actually make me get off my butt and get to work and that would be welcome at this point.

Because this game has scaling everywhere now, and adding 2, 4, 50 or 100 levels on top of what we have won't do anything. If they raised the gear level by 2 your CP160 gear will become as weak as CP140 gear it is now, and you'll have to re-craft/farm the same sets to end up where you were before the gear level change. It's almost certain they will not increase the gear level. In any case I find adding numbers to your stats completely irrelevant. Progression simply means playing more skillfully, and beating content that requires good individual performance and group coordination. You can finish any content in the game using entirely crafted gear, or dropped sets that are cheap and easy to obtain. The best sets are only marginally better than those, and most of them don't really shine unless you are in a good group. For example you can give Alkosh to a tank, but if he's bad, or the healers are bad and don't dive synergies, he will not have a good uptime on that. Or you can give 5 Julianos 3 Willpower 4 Torug's Pact to the most skilled players, and they will still parse 20% better than a semi-skilled player running FOTM sets. That's what I actually like about this game, and why I systematically avoided other MMOs in the past.

to be honest, i start liking the idea to change the gear level as well.
it would be much work, and i would have to clean 3 storage-only twinks, and maybe half of the inv on the other chars as well, but i thiink it would be fun to make a list of sets i want to have back and looking for them etc. the only thing i worry about when it comes to this point are the monstersets and jewelry. if they were upgradable for the level, then lets do it immediately :DD

I can honestly say that I have never really been hit by this. I still wear my original julia, grothdaar and moon dancer jewellery that i have for many a patch and I'm still doing fine. Just because folk tell you that you suddenly need to copy and paste a certain load out doesn't mean the rest of the stuff is obsolete.

If you chase some imaginary perfection, then be prepared to pay through the nose for it.

Does not annoy me in the slightest. Granted it does not really affect me so my opinion on it doesn't really mean much. I am simply not mini-maxing enough to tell the difference. I am not a bad player, I am average as all heck, not even in the same ballpark as the 1%. I can gain way more dps in other ways then a %-wise potential better dps gearset, with getting my playing skill/rotations more optimal, pay more attention to buff/debuff/aoe-duration. Or heck even learn to use that much talked about but not used by me at all animation canceling (no intention to learn it either, just no fun to play this way to me). And honestly I doubt I am the only one like this in game.

So basically even with BiS gear (If i would even be able to recognize it) I am still far from a BiS player, no matter how awesomely you dress me up.

And honestly even that is fine by me as i don't need to be on top of my game to do the content I do or have fun. The game is fun and relaxing to me, I make sure I am not a nuisance to my groupmates and pull my weight as best as I can for the few times I do group content. I challenge myself to try and solo worldbosses (and often get my ass handed to me still, but imporving slowely). To be honest I doubt I would even notice the difference much if I can even utilize the difference the new BiS sets could potentially give me in the first place.
