Does anyone get annoyed that your hard earned gear becomes obsolete patch after patch?

As the title says, we grind and farm for gear, make a build for high level content, next update the gear is made obsolete, been nerfed or is just out performed in the "meta"
it's like a merry go round of farming, grinding over and over.

I feel sorry for all the stam DDs farming sunder, or spending mats creating NMG for it to be trash next patch (nerf), pretty much the same for SPC from what I have been told (new trial gear outperforms it)

No, pc players whom have been exposed to mmos longer are already used to the gear grind, nerfs, etc.

It's not going to be out, but it's not going to be used 100%. I'm more upset about having to rework where all my gear goes and how my restos are now obsolete with the new 2h changes.

I have been wearing the same gear for years. ESO is nothing like most MMOs where gear lasts for only a couple of months.

I don't care what the set currently does, I keep every single weapon and jewelry for every set that drops.

I learned my lesson when Nirn was BiS (made gold weapons) sharpened became BiS (deconned Nirn staff) then Nirn became BiS again -_-;

So, nope not deconning, especially now that transmutation is available.

So, until they raise the gear levels, grinding is still minimal.

If they raise levels without a way to upgrade gear.... Then there's gonna be a real grind

I got used to it many years and many MMOs ago. And in ESO your gear doesn't become obsolete, it just becomes "not best" . It's still viable unless you are in a hardcore progression guild.

My set is "outdated".

I still do all vet DLC content even in HM.

So i'm not effected.

I'm used to top gear becoming vendor trash every few months in Korean MMOs

Well it happens all the time, maybe you just dont understand, but as the OP suggests, look at sunder and NMG changes.
nerfed into debuffs that any stamplar will have already as well as poisons and a few morphs have. Or SPC having a "better version" coming, giving the same buff that SPC gives, but better...

I mean, I've been using Hunding's and Spriggan's on a number of my StamDPS toons for a year now and can clear vet content just fine, so...

But seriously. Compared to most MMOs, gear in this game becomes obsolete at a glacial pace. On the other hand, there are a HUGE number of useless sets in this game, so that's unfortunate.

If I even remotely followed the meta, probably. Since I have my sets and don't care about a 0.0001% increase in DPS from switching out this set for that, no.

Yeah, seriously.... ESO's really really light in that regard, compared to nearly every other MMO. It's not like the level cap increases and you literally have to replace everything.

The first nerf I experienced was the bashing nerf soon after launch. After that, I understood that they were going to change things a lot and I stopped bothering and just focused on questing until recently. Not sure how I would feel if I was more serious about my builds.

But as someone who usually tanks in dungeons, I feel like the gear I see people suggesting for tanks has a lot of gear that has been around a while, like Ebon and Torug. I guess changing traits can make a mess of things, though transmutation helps a lot now.

The way I understand it the gear is supposed to be balanced. When we find a loophole that gives you an edge they nerf it.

You can either constantly grind the fotm or you can make a build that matches your playstyle. You wont be OP but you wont get nerfed all the time. And since it's yours you will like it.

With all the time I've spent on farming Fungal Grotto, I'm not giving up my Dreugh King Slayer, Viper and Kraghs sets. They've been working well on my stamblade for a year and a half now, so I see no point in replacing them any time soon.

Been playing almost 2 years. None of my gear is obsolete since I run what I call the 90% solution - just good solid gear that supports my class/role. Simple stuff like Hunding + Spriggans on my stamsorc, Julianos + Necro on my pet sorc for example. My healplar doesn't even worry about SPC. I don't mind farming dolmens to get purple jewelry and I don't even mind doing some normal pledges to have a reasonable collection of monster shoulders. No interest in Vet so no interest in farming dungeons for 'BiS'. Solid characters and no stress.

My equipment is never made obsolete. Don't chase the meta, and you won't be in the crosshairs.

Unless your some of the small percentage of people chasing top leaderboard scores, meta shifts should mean nothing to you.

If you can pull 30k dps your golden!

Best advice I can give you is to not follow the meta.... I used to and it's a time/gold sink...

I changed it up shortly before Morrowind and created my own build. It hasn't been nerfed because it's not BiS but it gets the job done.

Thats not true at all, SPC can hit anyone wherever they are, and can be applied without any thought with mutagen. The new set only hits a very small aoe, meaning that unless the group is very tightly stacked they will have to move through it to get the buff. Both sets will still have uses.

In particular SPC will still be better in AS, where the group cant stack very tightly.

No, not really.

I'm pretty used to it at this point and since I'm neither trying to squeeze out the last drops of DPS nor dependent on a particular gear set's effect ( *cough* crutchgore! *cough* ) its not a big deal.

Now, come back when ZOS figures out how to nerf group sets like Ebon Armory and I might be singing a different tune

I've been in ESO since 2013, and never had to grind...
If by "obsolete" the OP means "not BiS" then thank you devs for changing-up the game...
This "no-longer BiS" gear allows the new BiS gear to be gained through continued play....

The gear change in this game is pretty tame compared to other MMO's where there is a constant scaling upwards with each new content release. This one everything plateaus quickly and the only difference is set bonus combinations.

afaik the new set procs off of aoe heals, so the massive ritual of retribution is fine enough. Or the bread and butter healer skill, healing springs.
