The sad thing is.. I dropped for a couple 5500s; yesterday and the day prior. I didn't realize it will be on sale starting today. Son-of-a-beaches. Oh well.. 20% isn't much off, and nothing to cry over. However, a discount is a discount.

@GreenhaloX Send a note to Customer Support (ASAP) for whatever store you bought from. They might refund you part of what you spent.

@lordrichter, I appreciate the recommendation. Getting $18 back, if even possible, isn't going to make any significant impact. Oh sure, that's pizza and beer money, but the good folks on the other end can keep it. They do a good job in the contributing to the continuation of a good game. However, it would've been nice if there was a more accessible way of getting notice of such sales or event sometime prior. I guess Murphy's got me.. dropping the full prices just a day or two prior and not knowing the sale is about to commence.

It's just a very clear cash grab by their marketing team and tosses a hefty amount of consumer trust out the window.

None of my friends and majority of guildmates in some of the largest PC/NA guilds will touch Crowns unless they go 40% off or more.

One has to consider that ZOS and Bethesda are not looking for people to stock up on Crowns right now. A 20% sales encourages a certain segment of the players to buy now, figuring that this is as good as it is gong to get, or even good enough. It is not enough to encourage everyone to buy, and they don't want everyone to buy. Why? Because lots of players were probably still buying at full price, and player Crown inventories might still be high from the last sale. They just need a little sale to nudge the fence sitters, and it sounds like it is probably working.

One thing to keep in mind... They know what is coming, and they know what they want to sell them for. This might be the last Crown sale before that stuff hits the Crown Store.

Probably means your order didn't go through. Crowns are typically credited to your account instantly. I'd definitely contact customer service.

On the off chance ZOS is paying any attention and might consider the customer response, just wanted to add my voice to the chorus:
Spent $225 on crowns last sale (50% off). Won't spend a dime for 20% off. Crown stuff already too expensive, not enough gems from Crown crates, etc, etc.

yeah, got excited when I heard there was gonna be a sale, I thought it would be 50% was legit gonna drop $200 on both mine and my gfs account but 20% is a joke, not even worth dropping $10 for that $2 saving :D

Let's just hope that this is the response in the aggregate, instead of just in this forum thread. Otherwise, if newer users that are unaware of the price hikes buy in droves, people like you will be drowned out.

I bought a handful of crowns a couple days ago just because I had some spare change, but I only lost like $10 for not waiting 2 more days lol. I don't even feel that gyped, 20% is laughable with how expensive crowns are. When I saw the sale I was prepared to drop at least $200, maybe more, because I really want that palace that comes out in a few more days, but for these prices? Nah. I probably just skip the house too, because now I know they'll probably inflate the price even more to compensate for this totally impotent 'sale'.

Im not saying ZOS are idiots. But I think you might be giving them entirely too much credit here. Youd be surprised at the sort of level of stupidity that gets green-lit at a corporate level. Mostly because someone just NEEDS to have it on their resume that they did x,y, and z. Guaranteed someone in Marketing thought 40% or 50% sales were just too good for customers and not good enough for ZOS. So they either convinced their boss, or they being the boss made the decision to draw the sales back in hopes that people would still buy in. Hoping that players would still jump at the sale and ZOS would be able to strut to the bank with more money than the last sale.

This is Bethesda, not ZOS. Bethesda has had a marketing team for decades, and by all appearances, they are very good at what they do. Too good, in some ways.

The current sale, and the amount of the discount, is a deliberate, stone cold sober, negotiated deal between Bethesda, ZOS, Microsoft, Valve, and Sony. We cannot know all of the factors that went into this decision, but I think a big one is to get the fence sitters off the fence and to generate interest following Summerset announce.

Those fence sitters include people who just purchased the game because of Summerset, or might be thinking of purchasing Summerset but have not decided. Don't forget that when Summerset is pre-ordered, they can start playing the base game immediately. This weekend, they can grab some Crowns, too.

As for why 20% instead of 40-50%? Calculations. There are a number of reasons that I can think of. They are really targeting new players, and 20% is probably enough. They don't want people hoarding Crowns, perhaps because Crown levels are high right now. Crown sales among existing players remains strong, and they don't really need a sale for them right now. Just to name a couple.

I still have yet to spend the crowns I purchased from last year’s discount sale.

That’s the problem. The crown store sells a bunch of crap.
