I was thinking about buying a big pack of crowns on the next big sale. But the game is barely playable atm on the Xbox. Incredible lag and rendering issues. That in combination with only 20% off. I think I will skip it.

Sigh. I was really looking forward to a sale to grab the big pack, but 20% off just isn't enough.

FYI for the current discounted PC NA prices, the 14000 pack is technically the best deal.

    21000 / $119.99 = 175.015 crowns per dollar
    14000 / $79.99 = 175.022 crowns per dollar
    5500 / $31.99 = 171.929 crowns per dollar
    3000 / $19.99 = 150.075 crowns per dollar

I hope that reducing the discount means they will start reining in crown store prices as well.

Personally I won’t be buying any crowns during this sale because I frankly don’t anticipate needing more than I already have. Direct purchase offers are sparse and unappealing, and I have sworn off crown crates with the inclusion of individual motif pages as blue tier rewards.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the ESO game and I’ve subbed steadily almost since I started playing, but they have a long way to go to bring their fluff up to scratch. Honestly I wish there was more to spend money on! But with nothing I want to buy, I don’t really need more crowns.

WOW... got excited when I saw there was finally a sale... but 20%off???? and for only 4 days???

Nope, i'm done buying crowns full stop. Unless a proper sale comes along. Love the game so much but just sick to death of the rip-off mentality. Not only are crowns so expensive, but items are more expensive. As much as I love the game, it's just getting way too pricy to play. In fact just cancelled subsription too.

Time to play more Elite Dangerous, where there is no sub and cosmetics are a reasonable price. Save myself a fortune

There are two main takeaways from this:

    1. Over time, crown store prices have gone up while crown discounts have dried up, so the playerbase is getting screwed from both ends.

    2. The amount of people who comment on this in the forums is a subset of a subset of a subset of a subset of a subset of the playerbase; the ONLY thing that will get the ZOS marketing team to change their crown store pricing metrics is if they notice a significant drop in income compared to the last crown sale. Barring that, I wouldn't be surprised if the next discount after this is only 10%.

Thanks so much to the folks who have posted the former crown sale prices. I hadn’t been keeping track. This makes me all the more resolved not to fork over any more of my hard-earned money to ZOS for their virtual currency to buy their virtual houses, mounts, costumes, etc.

We just have to hope people wont be so dumb...

A few months back, motifs went for 2-3k at store, they are now 5-6 k, even for the crappy ones like celestial.

    And now this?

Lets just hope people will figure this one out....

With such a poor sale, and as hard as it is for me to even get the money to spend on crowns, I may end up spending elsewhere. I really want to buy crowns, but that is the most disappointing sale I've seen :(

I usually spend £300+ on Crowns a year to help support the game. And was fully intending to do the same this year. But with last year's price increase for Crowns and now this reduction in sale price (not to mention increase in Crown Store prices, unnecessary limited time offers, reduced discounted prices when items go on sale, and lack of selection in Crown Store items due to Gambling Crates), I sadly won't be doing this, this year.

I will gladly support those working on this game I love, but not when the ZOS business side tries to double dip their customers and treat them with such contempt.

Somehow, I don’t think this is what the people who were asking for more value to be added to their monthly subscriptions meant.

Though if crown sale discounts in the future are like this, I might consider subscribing more consistently instead of primarily buying sale crowns.

    20% is better than nothing..

While that's true (and people saying a discount is greedy - lol), for me personally it's not enough to spur me to buy more. That's alright, though - the last more substantial sale wasn't very long ago. I'm fine for now.

Crowns are already ridiculously expensive considering the current prices of crown store items. So 20% is nothing and no bargain for me. I'll pass and if this is a trend now I'm gonna stop buying crowns at all. Too expensive for my blood. And I can live without them.

What is funny (or sad...), some time ago the price of crown packs increased in my country (Poland). The old price for 5500 crowns was 128 PLN while the current price is 150 PLN. Now, when the crowns are on sale 20%, the price is 120 PLN which is almost the same as the old price...

Lulz at all the QQing. I bought the larger crown pack back around the holidays when it was 50% off. I won't be buying any crown packs this sale because 20% off isn't enough for me to pull the trigger since there is nothing I feel I desperately want. But in no way am I going to make outlandish, childish claims like ZOS doesn't care about its customers because the discount (which they don't have to do at all) isn't as big as it was last time. So you're okay with expressing your displeasure by not opening your wallet and publicly letting ZOS know that you didn't open your wallet, but not okay with people who do the same, but with some extra words thrown in?

And if this 20% discount becomes the new norm for sales--i.e., if we never see the kind of discount that we saw last December--would you still sing the same tune?

Personally, I will limit myself to just sub crowns--no more supplemental crowns outside of the sub stipend--if this becomes the norm, which would be a loss in sales for ZOS. But I'm not a whale, and maybe they just "don't care" enough about that lost sale. Now was that so scandalous of a thing to say?

This is a slap in the face to all those waiting for a crown sale. If they're not going to do a 50% discount just because of the upcoming expansion i'd wish they simply not release expansions around this time in the future.

I guessed a sale would be coming up and was planning on really stocking up but very disappointed in the fact that it is only 20 percent. It's not worth what I was planning on investing. To bad they don't realize that they would have made far more sales by having a larger percentage like 40 or 50 percent off.

agreed, especially since their product is entirely digital where they have an unlimited inventory of crowns. So it's not like they are running out of them to justify not giving much of a discount lol

The qq'ing isn't because the discount "isn't as big as last time", it is because this is the first time that it has been only 20% off. Every other Crown Sale since the start of Crowns in the game 3 years ago has been 40% off (not 50%). Given ZOS's history in this kind of thing, it is hard to believe that this is a one off, and not the start of a new price point for future Crown Pack Sales. Which, given the increase in Crown Prices last year, means the price people will have to pay for Crowns has been greatly increased for no discernible reason. Hence the outcry.

    Think about it this way:

If you buy a $100 house for $80, you didn't save $20. You just spent $80.

Which, when we're talking about a one-and-done code-and-cash that has absolutely no overhead or distribution cost, $80 is still more or less a demand to bend over.

That's precisely why it's a smaller discount this time around. Discounts are a risky thing in sales; if your discounts are too predictable, then it devalues your actual price point, since people will simply wait until one of your regularly scheduled discounts and buy then, effectively making the discounted price the actual price. They've decided to stick with the same discount schedule (odd choice in my mind, but whatever), so that leaves them with varying the discount amount.

The objective is to encourage people to buy at normal prices, rather than exclusively waiting for Crown Sales. This discount is probably actually intended to be mildly unappealing - sure, some people might buy extra Crowns because of it, but more importantly it tells people that they can't rely on Crown Sales like clockwork.

The sad thing is.. I dropped for a couple 5500s; yesterday and the day prior. I didn't realize it will be on sale starting today. Son-of-a-beaches. Oh well.. 20% isn't much off, and nothing to cry over. However, a discount is a discount.

They've decided to stick with the same discount schedule (odd choice in my mind, but whatever), so that leaves them with varying the discount amount.

FYI, they've actually varied the discount schedule each year, and have done so again this year. (i.e. IIRC there was no Crown Pack sale in February/March this year, like there was the past two years.)

I agree with what you are saying though in theory, however having been consistent with their discounting, and consistent with their high prices in the Crown Store, ZOS have effectively trained a lot of their customers (especially those long term customers who spend a lot in the Crown store) to bulk purchase crowns during the sale. So changing it now, is a pretty risky strategy to take, especially when combined with the increase in Crown prices last Summer.

i.e. This time last year 5500 Crowns at full price would cost me £23.99. Today, I can get the same amount of Crowns at "20% off" for the grand total of £23.99.

Maybe, but I am not sure if that strategy will work. Most people I've spoken to, who usually spend a lot on the Crown Sales, have effectively said they aren't buying any. They will wait for the next 40% off sale (if there is one) or not buy any at all. So ZOS have lost a large chunk of income, on the gamble that they will get enough people buying full price Crowns to make up for it. I don't see that happening myself, but obviously I don't know the figures involved. If I were a gambling man, I would say this is just the new norm for Crown Pack sales from now on (unless they respond to the negative feedback they are getting).
