I don't think it hurts zos at all to be generous once in a while. Sometimes it's better to build up good will and positivity rather than scrimping every penny (they are "losing money" on each BA book they give)

You would think, but I've seen so many complaints about getting free crap that it makes me wanna cry for the devs. People actually complaining about gifts. I agree with you, but there will always be someone to look the gifthorse in the mouth, then beat the horse to death.

I see two main thrusts to the complaints.

    1. The free stuff people really want is locked behind RNG so unless you do a bunch of dailies (aka writs) it'll be hard,to get what you want. Which wasn't IIRC a big deal last year, but the Worm Cult limited motif really brought this complaint out. Its worse for anyone with limited time to play.

    2. The economy just got flooded with supply of practically everything, so anyone who usually farms is watching prices drop like a rock because demand hasnt kept pace. Which I tend to think this is a shortsighted complaint since the market rebounded last year and the motif market was inflated anyway thanks to the Outfit System, but I see why some people complain.

So these two complaints are opposites, one complaining that there aren't enough rewards (especially for players with limited time to play) and the other complaining about the impact on the economy (more important to players who play the MMO economics game). Its not just "complaining about free stuff", its complaining about the ways that free stuff impacts different playstyles.

I don't agree with either complaint, myself, but I do understand them.

But it's just natural that people with more time will get more completed and hence get more stuff.

Of course, but thats a different argument than "I have limited time to play and thus risk not getting the event rewards," which is the complaint I see. Saw it a bunch during the Jester's Festival due to short time. See it now due to the RNG factor on the event limited Worm Cult.

Its not "Someone's getting more than me, wahhhh!" Its "I cant invest a bunch of time into dailies/writs and want a decent chance at getting the rewards."

But like I said, I don't particularly agree with either complaint, I just understand the reasoning.

I don't know how common my playstyle is. I log on, do crafting on my 8 chars, MG and undaunted (delve) on the 3 chars who are able to do that(i.e. completed gold, so no faffing about trying to reach the dungeon) then work on getting the rest to finish gold. For me this event is grand because it makes it easier to do master writs. I don't know if others play that way or not, but I like this event because it suits my playstyle just fine.

Its not dead tree branches. Those were silly.

Tell me why I would like to occupy a slot to make a scint/jump? Those other momentos that give you light or something are more useful than a single jump.

Recipes where the only reward that could be useful in the future, if I would play with stamina characters.

This will hurt the motif prices for a while, but thats ok. Special events need to feel special. The last event was kind of meh. I only really took advantage of the xp bonus. This event im actually doing new things in new places and pretty much everything ive gotten is useful even if its not a highly sought after item.

I think ZOS did a good job with this one.

It's one of the few reasons many long term players and ES franchise fans don't pack up and leave. They should really do somehting like this once a quarter, for a shorter duration. Bread for the masses.

I'm not sure what this response has to do with the uselessness of dead tree branches as a festival reward, but, uh, okay?

Farming for months or paying with crowns is silly. This is the best event of the year.

I farmed my whole BA motif set within a month of launch, also sold nearly 500 pages since launch as well, even though I get good luck finding BA's I also get bad luck not getting a MW every like 2-3 weeks on 15 different characters, one character being my main crafter that has every single motif, recipe, trait, and mostly nearly all patterns besides 4-5 atm.

Don't want to be harsh, but... it's only you who is silly here.
    1. ESO economy is not based on motifs. There are some constant things like mats ans so on, and soon we're going to have a whole new market for jewellery.
    2. It is really hard to get some motifs. Many crafters were preparing for this event for a long time, it is a great opportunity to collect some elusive motifs. For example, Akaviri is a rarest one for me as I don't PVP and I don't have a lot of gold to buy pages.
    3. Some motifs have become unreasonably overpriced since Outfit system. This event will bring them back.
    4. Before posting a topic on something "silly" do some forum reading. A lot has been said about motifs and the influence on their price. TL DR: the sky isn't falling.

I was certainly happy to get a Worm Cult Legs in my first box (nothing but mats since then). Also I've finally bothered to certify in consumables and am letting some heat die down for accidentally stealing something off a guild trader's bench while trying to find a provisioning recipe for the writ.

Rewards that make it worth taking a few minutes to wait out a bounty aren't silly a'tall :)

Heck, this event increases the demand for mats.

My point exactly. People like to complain about things, instead of just enjoying what they have, and understanding pixels are fake things, not worth complaining over. I'm sure I'll get the argument people pay for those pixels, but that is on them, no one holds a gun to their heads.

Honestly if things like weits gave rewards remotely as good as this event i may have a reason to log in and do them. Same for world boss dailies but alas coffers are full of garbage the quest giver found in their trash bin they should atleast guarantee a motif page or something but as it stands this event is good i can do it on all 11 characters and not hate myself for it

Since you asked, no, they don’t seem rather silly. A nice change of pace to actually get something useful. Silly was the Jester event rewards.

For that matter, even sillier was the Witches rewards, worst event ever, nothing of value.

Plus that Witches Cauldron that was a dulpicate of a Bosmer cauldron and took like six months to be fixed...

The Witches Festival rewards really needed some improvements.

Even with the great awards, the dev team did a great job of pumping out content and new motifs. I’m still catching up from the last year. With the new chapter, I can imagine several new motifs coming out, so I don’t mind trying to finish some of these last motif chapters

Before anything else comes up, I was mentioning that the event dropped ridiculous items...at least compared to other events. This event encourages progress on characters, and it just seemed like an odd change of tune, events back to back...and it drops items that people actually need...not tree branches

No, the rewards arnt silly. It's nice people are getting great drops and enjoying the game. For the duration of the event, players are able to get motifs they wouldnt normally buy because theyre too expensive and can use them or sell them as they see fit. A fine event imo where everyone has oppurtunity.

Motifs are worth something? Nuts, should have sold them all, could not care less about fluff like that unless they actually made whatever you made with them better.

It's the best type of event, this and skulls. Do what you wanna do, get some gain.

Sure it crashes the motif market, but anyone into trading makes a BOMB from this event so should equal out.

I remember fishing bait from previous anniversary, and it was totally unexpected. I hoped this year they won't dilute loot table with it, but I've already got few different fishing bait types in few coffers. The only difference - this time it comes in quantity of 25 units, more than previous times :D Really silly type of reward, but at least it can be spent on fish (and become actual crafting material) and maybe also turned into some Perfect Roes...

The absolute kings of disappointing silly trash were lockpicks (in quantity of 1 per coffer...) and white simple furnishing plans from dungeon event :/
I don't say anything about banners from Jester's festival cause banners - even though they are not great reward - were actually expected from those coffers.

It was a serious problem for glass motifs last year.

When they still cost 10k to make but some people kept selling them for 7-8k for basically the rest of the year. I am not sure if there was just dumb people going on auto pilot following MM and TTC without realising they spend 10k on getting the motif page or people had saved them to list later.

I am glad the process for gaining glass motif has changed.

But... its really hard to complain about free stuff and its good to have people online and active in game.

This, last event made me rich, started with 200K exited with over 2 millions 3 after selling off overhang in bank.
Over 4 million now, looks like its less income this time perhaps an million or something.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.
