Costume. To hide tabard or I would probably use outfit.

What exactly does a tabard do, and why not just take it off?

I've seen people talk about this, but no one has mentioned a benefit to wearing them besides just the guild name in their tag?

Most of my characters use a costume, but I really want the flexibility to control what's in each slot that outfits provide. Unfortunately, the outfits only provide a selection from the armours, not the clothing. A few use outfits, as their requirements are met from the available armour pieces (almost, or as close as I can get).

I'd be using more weapon outfits in combo with the costumes, if the dyes worked better on the weapons.

That is the whole point of the tabard. Sometimes people want to be identified by their guild. The way to do that is wearing a tabard. Why should it do anything else? It has a very clear use.

    -Costume

    1) It allows to me to choose and show off what I'm wearing, but hide my guild tabard so it is still displayed in nameplates.

    2) I've already invested into costumes, so once outfits came out the insane cost of outfit slots per character didn't make sense

    3) I can dye them and change them easily for no gold fee.

If I could show off my guild name in nameplates with an outfit, I would actually at least use the free outfit slot.

If I could show off my guild name in nameplates with an outfit, and the outfit slot cost wasn't so insane, I'd use outfits a lot more, likely equal to my costume usage.

    Depends
It depends. One one character I use an outfit, because some armour pieces fits the dark sorcerer style the most. I like to combine different pieces together to create something. And on my other character I use a costume. Some costumes are good from their selves luckily. But sadly not all of them.

    Outfit
Still sticking with Outfit... even though I wish they would allow us to 'hide shoulders' and other armor pieces. Plus, with addon I can change my outfit automatically when I gear swap, so I can have different outfits for different content and don't need to manually change it.

@Yigrok If wearing a tabard (whether you can see it or not) the guild name shows up in your nameplate. So if you (or others) use nameplates, it's an easy way to spot guildmates out in the wild. I've also had people message me in game because they recognized the guild name and had wanted to ask questions or were looking for an invite. Without wearing that guild tabard under my costume (to show guild name in nameplates) they wouldn't have known I was in that guild.

I went with Other because while I really enjoy both costumes and outfits, and will switch between them as the mood takes me, Disguises offer an option that is completely lacking in the rest of the game....a disguise lets your character look like themselves without being stuck with moldy old Vamp face and bleached skin/fur/scales, regardless of your feeding level.

Seriously, give us either the option to dye disguises, or a "Diguise" option for our outfits and I will be all over that.

Same...I really don't get the whole dress up thing. That said I do enjoy crafting and wearing armor I make but don't see any reason to dress up in stuff I am given.

    Disguises are best for me.
I don't tend to prefer gaudy outfits.
My character is generally a peasant adventurer.

I don't know why so many people voted that they like to wear Depends, though.

Outfits are 1) too expensive 2) every shoulder I want to use is floating 3) I should pay even for dyeing - WTF? 4) I want to be able to hide any part of my outfit which is not possible

I play since before they introduced outfits so I kinda got used to costumes. Also costumes are account wide and you can switch them on a whim which is great when you do rp. I like to switch between normal clothes and armour when doing quests in and outside the cities. With costumes you have to go to the station and cough up 20k gold everytime you want to switch since I refuse tu buy outfit slots unless they make them either far cheaper or account wide. So for now costumes it is.

Depends...on my mood that day, or what I'm doing. I use costumes extensively, but I have a beautiful outfit on each toon that I really like and will not change often (and I'll buy myself a gold-plated giraffe tuxedo before I buy any outfit slots, they way they priced them). So when I am doing trials and want to show off to a group, or any other time I want to be super fancy, I have my outfit showing. When I want to be silly, casual, dress more warmly, dress less warmly, go swimming, go fishing, farm resources, etc. I will wear costumes for that.

I think ZOS should really take advantage of the costume/outfit difference

Rather than making costumes based on existing motifs, create truly unique costumes
To start - Please make costumes for all the existing classes like we saw with the Warden and Necromancer
Either make it a crown store item OR something you earn at completing the main story of the base game with each class.
So if you beat it with a templar then you get a templar costume, etc.

I like costumes on some toons and outfits on others. The amount of choices you get allows you to give each of your toons a unique look and feel (and make you look different to any other player) which is one of the great things about this game. That having been said I get annoyed when putting the same color on 2 different armor pieces shows like 2 different colors, tabards make your chest vanish and appear as just black under the tabard, your tabard doesn’t show with a costume which some pvp guild don’t like and as such have a no costume policy. The system is not perfect and there is definitely room for improvement but it’s definitely a positive and fun side of the game.

Generally depends on what I think would look the best on my characters. If there's a specific combination I had in mind, I'd give that character an Outfit. Costumes I generally only use when I think they would look nice on a certain character or if I'm in need of a placeholder.
