Vvardenfell is huge yet so empty - do you like this design approach?

I am not a fan of the 15/30 seconds rule, that every few seconds there has to be something else which is attacking you or forces your attention. So I am fine with it. I can take my time actually enjoying the landscape, instead to always have to fight something or someone off.

Feels like they took a normal zone and stretched it out tbh. And then threw a ton of those impassable cliff-sides in for good measure.

Trouble is this is an MMO- the world and its content are more static than a single player game. So It doesn't matter how many more dungeons or whatever they put in, it would still feel empty and dead. There's no interesting AI to mess with, no hand-placed loot to stumble on.

Either way though it's undeniable some areas of it, particularly on the northern edge of the island, are literally empty and pointless. It's nothing but a road you can run down.

Well, there are quite a bunch of thieve troves to find at the northern edge - so I like it.

I call it moronwind for a reason. ZOS realizes they really don't have to try that hard. The TES name sells itself. To a point until they have sapped the joy out of the franchise and people start looking at other better kept IPs.

You can talk about how Vvardenfell "feels" until you're blue in the face, but it included:

    - 49 quests, not counting dailies. Most of these are significantly longer than quests in the vanilla game or DLCs.
    - 3 major cities and 11 minor settlements.
    - 2 public dungeons, a trial, and the standard 6 delves

compared this to Orsinium, which contained:

    - 47 quests, not counting dailies. Many of these were shorter than the average Vvard quest, based on the number of discrete journal stages, and further fewer of them were clustered into ongoing storylines.
    - 1 major city, 7 minor settlements
    - 1 public dungeon, no trial, standard 6 delves

Further, complaints about the number of resource nodes or chest nodes should probably go back and check again, because now that the population boom has died down, the zone is absolutely lousy with them.

I do not think they justified the cost. The area was nice to look at and all of the nostalgia I suppose. The sense of adventure for me seemed to be lacking. The island being what it was though, (basically a temple controlled province) was likely to be sparsely populated or really have much to do other then explore. If you remember what tes iii was you know they had reasons to keep the masses from running around there freely. I do have to say it is much nicer in this time frame less ash covered and ash storms everywhere and so on.

I bought it purely for the Warden, the zone I could care less about. At most I'll discover the crafting stations and collect the outdoor Sky Shards, but hardly did any actual content in this zone.

Rkindaleft and Old Orsinium are two public dungeons. Instead of a trial you have the Maelstrom Arena.

Somebody earlier in this thread pointed out that Vvardenfell is 53% bigger than Wrothgar, but it is filled with merely two quests more. Still don't get why some people might think it feels empty?

I want an even emptier, longer travel space. Everything piled on top of everything else like most old zones is bizarre and annoying. You walk 30 seconds from town and you're surrounded by monsters, then another 30 seconds and you're at the next town. A realistic environment would take days of travel between interesting locations; I'd settle for a couple minutes.

Vvardenfell and Wrothgar both go on for some time in beautiful wilderness, and then eventually there's a site full of stuff to do.

I'd like even fewer wayshrines, and more local travel systems. The Silt Striders in Vvardenfell could be the only way to get around except for Seyda Neen and Ald'ruhn, and it'd be a better zone for it.

If all you want is to port instantly into a dungeon, there's already a dungeon finder for that.

    1. As it was said themselves on eso live they didnt completed Sheodorad region coz were out of time. So zone is incomplete, that is worse part. I think it should be developed 2 dungeons update that add those in Vvardenfell zone. One dung as part of Sheogorad to complete zone. Second dung/trial on Red Mountain - main point of interest of island yet just waste of zone space.
    2. Even if it feels empty, it somehow lore-wise coz Tribunal closed island to keep truth about event on Red Mountain easier to hide. So I was pleasantly surprised seeing so many cities already being there.
    3. The feeling of emptiness is also granted by large amount of closed doors. It just too many of them.

    Like a few have said...

I like regions to be relatively expansive, and I'm perfectly fine with every square inch of terrain not having some immediate purpose

I love long, empty desert scapes - I really enjoyed some of the regions of skyrim that were just blinding snowy mountain passes...

it's nice to have areas with stark, empty, beauty - not everything needs to be killing me or being mined every second

honestly I hated the quest there the telvani was so long and boring helping some horrible lizard and half the quest in the zone was stealth quest which I hate. zone eehh the only reason I did quest ounce was for telvani personality but with e switching to pc now and don't have it its not worth again only reason I but it again was for arenas now they removed cp again from them.

I really hope summer set is better and not full of stealth quest. but I do like that they added costumes and personalities to the quest but the telvani ruined the whole zone for me

Orisinium was a 'free' update, Morrowind had a $40 price tag attached to it. That's a massive difference. Orsinium as a DLC was magnificent, Vvardenfell as a Chapter three times as expensive as the usual DLC is when it comes to content a major let down.

For me the problem is that, once you´ve finished the quests, you´ll be sticking to Vivec city, with no real reason to go back to awesome places like Suran, Balmora, Tel Sadrith or Gnisis.

I missed the 600+caves and ruins from the original. But that would be a to big thing to re-create. Overall i really loved Vvardenfell. I did miss that i could not go to Dagon fell or visit some more caves and climb te red mountain. Invisible walls, everywhere in this game (or slaughter fish).

I like it, only criticisms would be there's no house in Balmora. Why in Vivec's name not? I hope there will be at some point, and not a 15k crown mansion either!
Also, it feels like a DLC, not a "chapter". Hopefully Summerset will be bigger in size and content.

The most favorite zone for me. Really enjoyed the quests there. Hunger in the Forgotten Wastes gave me a fright. Telvanni questline was really interesting. The bard singing to three piles of cliff strider dung in Gnisis was hilarious. Just exploring was fun too (found ancestral library even before I visited all the tombs). And the music was superb as always (though I wish there was an option to disable battle music). I wasn't disappointed.

Probably the only thing I would like to be better are housing options. Didn't find the house that would suit my tastes (which is hlaalu style house like in Balmora with access to open water) - Amaya's Lodge was close to it, but I wish it had access to the lake (with furnishing enabled there similar to Hunding's Hall). Or would like to see a bigger suit in one of the Vivec's cantons. The Saint Delyn Penthouse is very good except it is so small.

And regarding the landscape layout... I really appreciated that it was very close to the original TES 3 game. Never liked the Red Mountain area in the original game, so didn't miss it in the Chapter.
