pay to catch up and pay to win are very different things. the research scrolls are the former - you trade money for time, rather than for any sort of tangible advantage.

    Exactly.

It's all P2w in my book to give people an advantage over others just to spend $ on no matter what it is.

Huge long standing and widely accepted definition of P2W is buying something with real money that’s not obtainable in game that offfers a significant power advantage in game.

It is obviously unreasonable to think a DLC concept would offer no new gear rewards with the new content they offer and being its in game it’s now P2W.

Even the research scrolls sold in the crown store is not P2W since progressing a little faster doesn’t provide a significant, or any, power advantage.

People can pay for faster research times. That doesn't mean they'll do more DPS in PvE or PvP. So I don't see it as P2W, I see it as impatient. P2W in my opinion would be certain crown consumable items give more bonus Stats that our current Major/Minor buff system doesn't. Lets goof and say ZoS added a "Crown Potion of Battle" and makes you deal 10-20% bonus damage in PvP. That would be P2W :p

I believe P2w by default just means to pay for services which would reduce the time to obtain something in game months - years to accomplish without paying for it.

    Pay To Win
Pay To Win AKA P2W. when you are paying for advantage which normal players don't have access to unless they either pay too or will have to grind very long (weeks and months).

I understand what you're saying! I've had this argument with a friend over certain games. I can purchase these research scrolls, but that doesn't mean my DPS will dramatically increase or I'll be picked over anyone else for trials based on research knowledge. I'd also continue to get stomped in PvP since it doesn't make me a good player. Sure it's more of a cash grab and convenience for those who have the money to throw at ZoS. I understand the argument, but P2W to me are things that give you a huge advantage with stats. If you could purchase trial gear,PvP sets, or open world sets with cash that would be P2W. Sorry for the wall of text, but that's just my take on it

i don't even have the possibility of going to get the best items if i don't own the DLC. I won't get a vma bow if i buy the DLC, but if i don't buy it, i won't even have the chance to go achieve it.

    it's not really pay2win, it's more like "pay2getBetter"
-PC EU- / battlegrounds on my youtube
