You're not the only one. I hate the "massively multiplayer" part of MMOs. I wish they were just PIWTPWORPGs (People I Want To Play With Online). Kinda like we can set up private servers in Neverwinter Nights and just invite the specific people we know and want there, no strangers ever. I'd love that.

lol it still wont help me

Offline mode would be next to impossible to do without opening the flood gates on massive cheating.

For any offline mode to work, you would have to store all your interactions, loot, quest stages/achievements etc *locally* on the client computer until the user goes online again to sync up.

That local store of data could be exploited to hell and back by anyone with a 13 year old socially awkward kid/friend in their basement.

It really sounds like an all around awful idea ...

The OP presents a valid argument. For an MMO, ESO has a huge amount of great solo content that does not strictly need player interaction, and thus no online server connection. So an "offline mode" would really be nice.

It would have to be an "offline version" though, not an offline mode. Anything you do while not connected to the central servers must of course be completely separate and never be synchronized with the megaservers. The reasons for this should be more than obvious. :)

From a technical point of view, I suppose it'd be next to impossible to include the server-side logic in the client to have a true "offline version". So the best you could do, if at some point Zenimax decided to make the server code available, is creating "shards" (local or private servers) like other MMOs offer. Splitting the player base like that would be a huge step though, and I doubt that's what Zenimax wants.

So I don't see any of this happening in the near future.
    Kind regards,

I think it would be cool to have an offline mode. I travel a lot, and being able to knock off a few quests offline would come in handy.

With that said, WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Would require the need for certain very sensitive code to reside locally. Without getting overly technical, it would be hacked and you'd have mass hacked in the hack face ban fail and everyone would die...because hack cheaters.

How about they fix the lag. I love this game but it is basically unplayable. There is a 30 second to 3 minute delay every time I go through a load screen. From the time I press the icon on my desktop until the time I can do anything in game can be up to 20 minutes. That is unacceptable in 2017. I play other MMOs like SWTOR, SWL and Revelation Online and they are perfectly fine so it is not me, it is ESO.

to be fair, you're talking like a massively multiplayer ONLINE - OFFLINE is a thing. i hate to break it to you, its NOT. just kidding, i love breaking news like that to people.
cant wait to see how they do a 4man dungeon

Good idea but poor execution ... as most 4-man dungeons can be soloed.

I have to agree with the above posts. If you want an offline mode you are playing the wrong game. This is an MMO as defined earlier in the thread. Skyrim has recently been remastered, that would be a much better fit for a single player game.

It's already difficult enough for ZOS to support the many platforms of this game, adding an offline mode seems to be a disastrous way to divert their attention.

Going to have to disagree with you OP.

Leave it to the Elder Scrolls Community to deliver the actual game we wanted ESO to be instead of a stale lifeless themepark with unnecessary morale killing grinds and arbitrary restrictions.

Guess how many items you can put in your modded house in skyrim? As many as you want.

I'd rather play TES 6 but its being delayed because of this and the fact that Skyrim hasn't been ported to the Sega Dreamcast yet.

Maybe when Zeni finally gives up and takes the game servers down, they'll give us all a downloadable, local version first. That's the only way it will happen. If Bethsoft even allows that, there's a fair amount of conflict with interest in the future TES IV for that..

They would have to first make it playable Online before making an offline version. The way things are going, you may have a broken buggy, 5 FPS mess offline version by 2027. So 2042 for a playable version, still no garauntee there won't be bugs, this is bethesda we are talking about and without it's modding community to pick up their slack, ZoS has shown it's consumers how much they really know :D

    Elder Scrolls Online.
I mean...it's part of the title.
    That's answer enough.
I'm worried about the 3 people who agreed with your op, as well.
    It's a MMO.
    This....is a joke, right?
I see alot of "Let us quest offline" coupled with "What you do offline shouldn't count when you come back online".
There are things like world bosses and achievements for questing that give rewards like dyes. I don't think I'd want to do something twice, especially after I did it once, but that time didn't count. What's the point if I'm questing and gaining levels that won't count if I decide to switch online back on? Seems like a lot of extra work for no gain.
