Suggestion: Costume Creator

Hello there,
I'm sorry in advance for my english, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this (in that case please tell me :) )

ZOS really let us to customize greatly the appearence of ours characters: Costumes, Skins, Motifs are all good features to me.
What really i would love (and maybe it had been already suggested), is a Costume Creator system, a really simple one. Here is how it could work:

COSTUME CREATOR
  1. Equip what you want, dye it if needed to create your desired look.
  2. Go in "collection panel" and select the new voice "My Custom Costumes".
  3. There you'll find "Custom Costume Slots" the first Slot is FREE and unlocked for everyone (maybe doing some kind of related quest, like the house one?), and you need to pay 500-1000 crowns to unlock more slots.
  4. Click on "Create Custom Costume": the game take in account the actual appearence of your character and save everything in the slot, maybe using the picture of your char in the inventory as a photo for this custom costume slot. You can edit the Costume Colors anytime later if needed.
Major Edit: looks like that most users agree that this could be possible for ZOS if the first Slot is free for all, and the other needs to be purchased, so i put it like that.

interface_costume.jpg

In this way your appearence will be stored in the Slot as a custom Costume (just like already existing one from Crown Store) in the Collection Panel. This can be dyed like armour without limit.
Also remember that you actually have to own the armor you are saving as costume to save it in the Slots, so Motif from the crownstore do not become obsolete.
I can se me for example buying a Buoyant Armiger Motif, craft my full armor, and then Save it in my free Slot to use its appearence anytime I want.

Why?
Because many people spend weeks finding Motif chapters, Craft a fullset of let's say "Hlaalu" or "Ancent Orc", and than switch to a dungeon Set or something else because of progression.
For me it happens often. I buy a Daedric motif, make the armor, and after some LV up i change it for a stronger armor or a Set (like warrior poet) for the bonuses, losing my design.
Actually for me and other players I know my appearence is important at any level, even at early ones.

Making all the Slots except the first available for Crowns wont break the income for ZOS, they still have employees.
ZOS can continue making costume modeling the very special ones, like all the pirates costume, celebration ones, wedding or heroes ones on the store.
In fact, these ZOS costume are not composed by several armos layers and thus they looks better. They don't need transiction and compatibilities with hundreds of armor pauldrons and plates.

STYLE CONVERTER
What would be nice and could work along with this is a "Convert to (put style here)", like for Imperial and Morag Tong ones.
These are the rules I had in mind:
  • You can right click and "convert to..." only to style you know 100%, let's say ALL chapters of Malacath / Xivkyn, but not a glove if you just know the Glove Chapter.
  • You need the proper Style Material (like Potash, Charcoal of Remorse or Refined Bonemold) for each conversion.

And these, if the wole situation is "asking too much"
  • You can do the Conversion only at a Crafting Station (if this looks too much, so there's still a little limit and people don't change on the fly).
  • You can do that only under ESO+ if there's no other way to implement it for the company (if it doesn't go against their income NO).

What do you think about it guys?

Cheers, and good gaming :)

    Costume creator sounds cool.

I do not believe this would ever be implemented becasue this would take away from ZOS creating costumes and selling them in the crown store. Why give it away to part of the player base when all players have to buy them now.

    Same goes with slots.

I am all for ESO plus benefits but we have to be realistic about what that is going to be. Giving away a huge part of the crown store will never be one of those benefits. For example if craft bags was on the crown store and was never part of ESO plus it would never had been moved to ESO plus.

EDIT: i put a simple picture, nothing fancy :)
Also I don't think this go against their costume selling because obviously their costume are already sculpted to be perfect on their own, while crafted armors (light, medium and heavy) are designed keeping in mind that all the parts need to be compatible each other, and this is a huge design limit when you are doing the 3d model itself (i'm telling this as a character designer and 3d model).
That said, their unique costumer will Always be unmatched on design and uniqueness, while we can simply register what we ALREADY have. If we want to register a Buoyant Armiger costume in a Slot, we still have to buy that motif from the store. (no way to obtain it ingame lol...)

You could write your looks on your memo pad on your phone. Also you can quick slot make-up, tattoos, and costumes. :)

I really liked how you presented your idea.

Yes while you can write your look to switch to it when needed, i'd want to have my gear stored in the Costume Slot to use it at will, without have to change my armour.

Fun idea but its in practice appearance slots with an restriction in that they have to be joined together in an set.
This can be convenient if you want to swap.
In all other settings this will be treated as the 7 pieces of visible armor you are wearing.

The standard costumes has an id identifying the outfit, this would need 7 id's
My guess is that the upcoming style change will change it style id on items itself.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I see your problem, I am not an ESO+ user (unless i want to test a DLC). After the game went buy to play i had subbed to plus just 2 times for this purpose.
Even if I'm not a Plus user I must admit that as company with employes ZOS need to make money, and it's better if they gain this income in "useless" cosmetic feature.
I passed the last weeks farming my Hlaalu, and as I had no luck finding even 1 chapter of it (i was able to steal a telvanni) i bought 5 chapters from the Guild Store. Farming this Golds was not easy, I'm low level and hardly I had time to do that.

The fact is, I wanted this Hlaalu Motif on my character even if it's useless.
Gaming is mostly a waste of time, you do that only if you think it's Worth the fun you receive back. If the activities in the game that let you gain golds (everything) are not fun maybe the game is not for you (maybe modded Skyrim/Morrowind/Oblivion is).

It could even just be 1 Free Slots for everyone and the rest for ESO+: the fact that I don't use Plus doesn't mean that ZOS needs to Stop their earnings.
As other people pointed, ZOS sells costume, and this "Custom Costume" Slots feature could work ONLY if this doesn't go against their sellings. If it became completely free and at will they will break their buisness, that's why I suggested the use of Eso+.

Anyway... right now you are playing a game that have not this System, and I think that no one is forcing you to do that. I assume that you like playing this game.
How could be an optional extra feature that now doesn't exist make you want to LEAVE the game? I mean... as you don't use the Crown Store it's even possible that the system was already out and people is using it. People is using costumes... it would make 0 difference for you.

Damn ,not funy anymore ... stop with this " awesome" farm.

I was talking about motif , 2 years ago i started farming them, cause i hope they will add the transmog system for all ( transmog = change your gear style )... but it's not funny to farm this... worst farm in the game ever, i just do this for the system cause i want to change my gear style , I always knew we would have it ... but i don't know if this will be free, half free or not.
And if they decide to monetize the whole system ... this will just make me realize that i lost my time farming these motif for ... nothing.

If at least there were a bunch of usefull crafted set other than julianos / hunding this would be awesome ... but just look at Tava and clever alchimist .. both were usefull ... before the nerf , since that, people play with werewolf hide or 7th legion set ( both are non-cratable)

Hope it's a bit clear now, i don't know why but my first comment was ... very weird :P

Thank you to everyone who's commenting. Maybe this feature will be noticed by the devs, if they read this section of the forum and think this could be lucrative (in a good way).

Not for every style and not for free, too easy.
    My idea is:
    • You can right click and "convert to..." only sto style you know 100%, let's say ALL chapters of Malacath / Xivkyn
    • You need the proper Style Material (like Potash, Charcoal of Remorse or Refined Bonemold) for each conversion.
    • You can do the Conversion only at a Crafting Station.
    • You can do that only under ESO+ if this make it possible (if it doesn't go against their income NO).

I'm adding this to the first post too.

Personally I would much rather see an expanded armor style transmogrification system then custom costumes...

Also, any style converstion has a destruction chance just like for temper improvements, migrated by using more resources, so rare style materials will be even more expensive and rare styles something to think twice about converting into, thus keeping them -rare-

And the function should also allow converting style materials... like turning red weapons to the looks of a different crafting tier like "Steel" for example... just by using some steel ingots as style enhancement material.

Possibly the function could even convert to special styles by using items with that style as "style enhancement matierla" - so, take a couple of monster helmets of your preferred style and use them up to turn your favorite helmet into their visuals... (finally an use for those things you farmed that came in the wrong weight class, huh?)

And unlike the "convert to..." functions which should be retired for being useless in endgame, such a function -should- work perfectly well on set items.

    And...
    ...finally...
...there could even be a special and expensive crown-store bought super-style material that lets you convert some pieces into visuals from any of the costumes you own. Not every costume of course (no dancer silks, wedding dress or civilian clothing armor), and only matching "weight" - so a nord hero armor costume piece style can only be refitted to heavy armor, because that costume obviously is "heavy armor", while a mages guild robe style could only be refitted to light armor, and so on... but that function -would- in essence let you make your personalized looks.

Make it so we have to buy a costume slot like 1000 crowns and its perma used when we save a costume and if we remake it we buy a new slot. Only issue i see is some gear parts have mixed dye channels so may end up with train wreck dye jobs like mannimarco costume where crown doesnt dye the same as the rest of the metal stuff

But we will always be a slave to the crown store and gambling boxes now that they have been implemented.

Maybe learning all chapters, requiring you to know the full motif to unlock style conversion? So people who farmed them wont feel like they wasted time, and you can freely swap styles without remaking or re grinding gear as well.

    Exactly :)
And it's also what i have written in my CONVERTER "rules". And I'm the kind of player that have no one motif complete.
In first person i would agree to start farming the missing chapter for the ability to convert equipment.
I think the satisfaction will be great once you learn the last chapter and gain the Converter :)

An appearance tab would be nice, but Zos went the easy way with costumes so I doubt this will happen.

If Zos had created costumes that were in pieces instead of one piece and we could slot them like armor pieces I would expect the idea OP suggests to be a natural addition to the game. As it is, I doubt it since players cannot combine aspects of a costume with armor piece for truly unique looks.

It is unfortunate but it is what we have.

True, and I see how it will be imposible to mix costumes with armour.
Costumes are uniques and 3d modeled on their own, they have no limits such compatibility restrictions.

What's this *** about ZOS needing money? How badly in debt are ZOS with running ESO? What next, we must have crown crates otherwise their criminal banker CEO (Robert Altman) will no longer be able to have sex parties with the House of Saud?

Have one custom costume slot available to all players, and the additional slots available for purchase in the crown store. Locking it behind the subscription is just asinine.

Actually it looks like that most of the users agree with you and it's a nice idea.
I edited my first post so the first Slot is free for all and the others can be purchased for Crowns.

Also, i had not specified before, but of course anyone should be able to DYE his/her Custom Costume.

Let's say you unlock a new color and want to apply /try it, there should be no limit for that.

A little over a year ago, I suggested that a "disguise" type of costume should be made from equipped clothing items that you randomly find in crates and barrels. You'd find a piece to go into each armor slot on your character, then go to a clothes crafting station and hit the right button and whammo, the clothes would be replaced by a disguise that included them all in one package, which you'd then put on your disguise slot when you wanted to wear it. You could dye it first, if you wanted to. This would be a way to imitate NPCs in Cyrodiil, the better to gank enemy players when they come around to do quests.
