For those of you who feel the drop rate is bad with crown crates: 225 crown crates later...

People like you ruin the game. You prevent developers from bug fixes and force art developers focus on crates exclusives instead of quality content.

Do you realize that amount of money they get from the crates simply commit them into making crown crates contwnt a primary goal?

Imagine you are a barber who has a service of head wash and massage befor haircutting. After a while you start to notice that the part of hair wash and massage brings you more income than working on hair. Eventually you will start investing more money and time into making better and better hair wash and massage. You will buy more tools and equipment for it than for the hair cutting. This is natural.

This is what is happening in Zenimax. They don't have capable developers who can improve group finder and they don't even look for someone to do it. All they are looking into is having good art developers to develop those crates fpr you, because in the end of the day this brings them fast and steady income.

It's pay day, and I'm a Halloween-a-holic...I've never spent money on the crates before, but I figured, "what the hell", I really want some of that cool Reaper stuff.

But not after reading this. Thank you OP.

I've had no issues with the crown crates. Everyone I have purchased has dropped an cool mount, costume or other.

It's a win/win situation to not buy. Not complaining about their design.

I'm not sure what to say or what you expect.

You KNOW the drop rate on mounts is bad and you know it has to be bad in order for ZoS to make money. It's analogous to gambling, whether it's lotteries, casinos, or sports, the house always wins and has to always win otherwise there is no house and no gambling.

And the idea that I have THIS many chances so the odds are going to be in my favor is precisely what the house feeds on. Yeah, the odds that red will drop 11 times in a row on a roulette table are so small it's practically a given you'll get your money back if you just keep doubling down, but the time you actually are at that roulette table is the time red does drop 11 times in a row. And when you leave knowing you just pissed away little Katie's college fund, then black finally comes up.

Do I think it;s ridiculous that 75,000 crowns can drop with no mount? Yeah. But do I understand its very possible because the
drop rate is low, which is has to be - it will always be low enough that there is a fair chance of spending a lot of crowns and not getting it? Absolutely.

I, and nobody else, should EVER gamble with money that is actually needed for other stuff, and I would include leisure with that other stuff. This way money that's lost on the times we lose - and there will always be times - does not prompt the sort of frustration that leads to posts like this. At the end of the day, it's just a mount people wont want, just as the other mounts from prior crates, the next time ZoS releases the next round of crown crates.

"75,000 crowns I just spent" and no mount...yeah that's horrible. I think with all the gems you would have bought it, when it's available for gems, but... RNG horray :/

The "crown crate only, can't use gems" items have put me a bit off. I used to get a lot, but now I just check, see if there are any items that I want which can be bought with gems. If there are, then I'll get a few and either get the item or enough gems to buy it. I'd be curious to see if this setup nets more or less sales. The fact that they continued it tells me it probably resulted in more. I won't blast anyone buying 80K worth of crates, just won't do it myself.

RIP. Unfortunately OP, that's how RNG works... Sooooo.. I don't think tagging zos will really help. Well, except to let them know crates are making money as expected. By the looks of what you (just one person) spent in 1 day.. probably more than their regular crown store offerings.

rng is.. random. I bought 34 crates. I got 3 cinder wolves out of them. from my 3 free crates, I got a basic skeletal wolf. I didn't have any of the returning items from crates unlocked on my account and I ended up with enough gems to buy the ones I really wanted, that didn't not drop naturally. gems are there to lessen the sting of bad rng. its literally their purpose. which is why I'm personaly very VERY unhappy with those extra special, can't buy with gems additions to the last 2 crates. I think ZOS needs to stop with those. but everything else? you either get them to drop, or you just buy them outright with gems. I don't see the problem here. I mean.. I wanted BA motif. it didn't drop for me. so I just bought it with gems. I still got it, what does it matter if it dropped directly or not?

Don't blame individual people for a development team's shortcomings. It's not just a single thing. Companies who half *** things tend to half *** things across the board. The only things we can do is either find the most entertaining pieces of the cluster *** to be content with, or move on to something else.

ZOS isn't the reason I'm sticking around. It's the people inside the game who are working their butts off to make interesting events and incentives to stay. I'll log in at least a few minutes a day for them. I can appreciate their enthusiasm. What I cannot appreciate is a company that does not trust their product or their customers and instead has to rely on mind games to pry open wallets to continue operating a product that they're losing enthusiasm for.

I'm no longer curious about upcoming DLC. I'm curious who is is going to jump ship so they can shake all that development fatigue that has accumulated...

This is the developers fault @Kildayen

@ZOS_RichLambert and friends know about loot seeding in the game and how it effects the RNG drops, but they probably wont do anything about it until someone figures out a way to abuse the seeding system.

I mean, [snip]! This is some funny crap. You have better odds on a slot machine in the casino. :D

There is a difference. The short of it is that it's not an apples to apples comparison and arguably can't be compared.

When people gamble in casinos there isn't usually a clear objective. So casinos set a high payout rate that over time (the longer a player plays) the odds are that the result of will match up with the house edge. "In the short term, a player may well be ahead; over the long haul, the house edge will eventually grind the player down into unprofitability. based on an average payout percentage" You might have heard the common wisdom that if you hit, walk away.

A game cash shop is a different animal. It always wins. After art, coding and licensing costs are paid off, it costs virtually nothing to provide the reward to the player. Further, unlike gambling, those players that care about money typically have a clear objective. For example, many people seem to want the plague mount. Once their objective is met, that source of revenue dries up and in a particular crown crate season I imagine only whales are spending money after some period of time.

So, without knowing the value a player places on a virtual item (that has zero value outside the game) and the amount of money spent before a win, it would be difficult or impossible to compare the two.

Overall, I think the Crown store probably has better odds at achieving a particular objective than a casino on a player by player basis. Totally a guess, though.

Fun fact: one of the costumes (the look-a-like you get to wear during a thieves guild quest) was in the normal crown-store last year, wich I bought. Funny to see its actually being put into the gamble-crates now...or rather really really sad.

I'd have to get back to you on that. I have somewhere around 3800 crown gems total I think, and not everything is broken down yet. I'm not at home now so I can't log in to confirm. I know I had a bunch saved up from the last batch of crown crates. I'm guessing I probably got at least 2000 gems from these new crates.

I feel like this is a weaker season than the past ones. Still, that really sucks. I feel bad for anyone who's chasing a particular mount, lord knows how much I've spent trying to chase a shiny in a system like this before. (Usually only to end up with a different shiny I have no particular interest in... or getting the stupid camel out of my free dwemer crate. <_<)

I hope the revenue goes to funding new content, at least. Clockwork City impressed me.

You have none of my sympathy, only shame.

You single handedly gave them a gigantic profit off a bad buisness practice for not geting a mount. A mount. Something you will look at for five minutes then leave.

45 crates, 3 skeletal mounts, 3 motifs, 3 banners, 3 costumes, 2 hoods, 4 pets, 6 cosmetics, 2 mementos and enough gems to purchase another mount and the other 2 costumes I wanted. For me the best crate gamble yet. I got lucky this time. Though, I wish I could gift some of the mounts.

    Edit:
Not the super exclusive mounts though. Sorry, lost track of the OP original post.

By the way, I'm not saying people have to like the crates. I've just seen a lot of people being bullied about them on this forum. I don't *love* the crates, myself (wish they just put it all in the crown store instead), but I'm strongly against people being bullied just because they bought crates.

Do not personally buy crates because the principle of them is not interesting to me

not run down to Vegas hoping to win big and not have to work any longer

But if people decide they enjoy the 'rush' of opening a 'potential winner'
then they are free to make that choice

not certain that most people realize they are being charged for the rush rather than the prize tho
