I think someone needs to create a chart. One that has the number of hours of downtime on one axis vs. the severity of the complaints on the other axis. You know, like going from "Thanks ZOS for fixing the game" up to "I HATE you ZOS, I quit you ***, and I demand my money back!!"
Would be less of an issue, if 'a few hours' actually meant 'a few hours'.
Speaking as a guy who fixes things for a living, I can tell you that it's difficult to give an ETA before you've come up with a solution-- and even when you're in the testing phase of that solution you may uncover several other problems for which it's difficult to give an ETA. Epiphanies don't really happen on-demand. Though your frustration is warranted, our day should be refunded for subs.

Well, they could say 10PM EST.
If they fix it at 4PM - they have plenty of time for pizza and beer before they spin the servers up ahead of schedule at 9:47 PM EST.
